  1. Indian, I'm from Brentwood, and I am also still disturbed by the fact the Brentwood Academy team did not accept the 2nd place trophy in football at the ceremony...although they did accept it later, it was a clear case of the coach thinking he was better than the game. To this date, I still have no respect for him, although he is the winningest coach in history. Coach Kirk had my same respect even before this tournament. I have seen his teams intentionally hit batters, seen him chew out ballplayers in view of everyone....as far as I'm concerned, he is another one that thinks he is better than the game. I think the reason Soddy has failed to win the last few years, even tho they have had arguably the best talent, is because they are playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. He coaches by intimidation, and i'm afraid its not working.
  2. I wish they would do it the same as basketball....LIKE put it in Tennessee, preferably Murfreesboro, where it belongs...not in Mississippi
  3. Thats true, Chattanooga is a smaller city than Nashville, but very few schools inside of Nashville area take softball very seriously, except for the private schools. Chattanooga has had fastpitch softball alot longer than Nashville. Brentwood, which is always strong, doesnt even have fastpitch in their rec leagues. Murfreesboro hasnt had it long...If you go back since the inception of softball, I think you would find that Nashville has a ton more titles....especially when you look at the nineties when Ezell won almost every year in A, and Lipscomb or Brentwood Academy won in AA.
  4. twanky...dont they teach you to read in the private schools?....the idea did mention including the DII schools...
  5. Chattanooga area teams have done well this year, but to say they are head and shoulders above the rest of the state is stretching it a bit. Middle Tennessee has done well also, with Goodpasture and Marshall County playing well. It all runs in cycles anyways, and its just Chattanooga's time in the sun...afterall, middle tennessee has been the champion 10 out of 16 times since 2001.
  6. Apparently they did more than just talk during the game.....4 players getting red-carded is shameful.....whats wrong with Blackman's whole athletic department?...They had the same thing go on during softball with players using bad language and a player being kicked off the team for it. Someone needs to take charge at that school, and if the athletic director/coaches wont do it, then they need to be replaced.
  7. Where were all those hits that Boyd was going to get?....seems like some things never change....Goodpasture beating Boyd
  8. Exactly ERA...you always have the right to ask...you just dont have the "right" to be told everything.
  9. As I said before....it has nothing to do with caring about the feelings of the girls being taught...I'm sure they care....but legally they cant tell people why employees leave....Although I'm not sure how your contract reads with Club K, but I would imagine that it is a contract to take lessons at Club K, not with Kim or Emily... As mentioned before by ERA, you need to address these concerns with the management...and if they dont give you teachers that you like, then maybe you should find other places to go to. And maybe they will give you a refund for any lessons not taken. Club K is a business, and i'm sure they will find equally capable instructors...believe me, they arent there to try to lose money.
  10. It would be nice to know why instructors leave, but do you have a "right" to know. Absolutely not!...Club K is a business just like all the other businesses out there that have personnel laws that they have to follow whenever someone leaves employment. There is certain information that they legally cant divulge..If they break those laws, they can be sued. Just the same as if a well-liked teacher in the school system leaves, the principal probably will not expound on why the teacher leaves. And if your favorite store manager at Old Navy leaves, the corporate office isnt going to tell you why she left without permission to do so. Unless you can get the information from Kim herself as to why she left, I would leave this subject alone....move forward with Club K, or if you are unhappy with that, find someone else to take lessons from. Since my daughters never took lessons from Club K, I dont have to take sides one way or the other. I did have the pleasure of knowing Kim when she played ball with my daughter one summer, and you couldnt find a nicer young lady around...and we wish her well whatever she decides to do in her future.
  11. I'll agree that Tarrah Tucker is a true warrior and had a fantastic 3-week finish to her career. But to say she was "far and away the best pictcher" in the district may be stretching it a bit. You judge a player's performance by what they did the whole season, not just what they did the last 3 weeks. If you look at stats only, the three Brentwood pitchers all had better stats than she did, against far superior opponents than she faced. While its true that few teams, if ever, get 7 picks for an all-district team, your "observation" that Brentwood only deserve "four at best" shows you either havent seen them play much this year or you dont know much about softball. They are much more deserving of 7 than they are 4, and here is why I say that: 1. Their 3 pitchers were 3 of 4 of the best pitchers in the league. 2. The catcher (L. Cavarro) was the best catcher in the league 3. Their shortstop ( K. Rothamel) was the best shortstop in the league 4. Their 2nd baseman (C. Cavarro) was the best 2nd baseman in the league. Thats six players right there, and doesnt even include their senior centerfielder who battled leg problems the last month of the season and didnt play against the weak teams at the end to pad her stats...oh yea, I forgot to mention, she has been all-district the last 2 previous seasons also. Everyone says Brentwood's pitchers are all about the same, so if that's true, then they should all be all-district...and everyone says that they win only because they have the best talent...well, if that's so, then the others should be awarded also because they were not 13-0 in the district solely because of their pitching. It is true that there are alot of other girls in the league deserving of the honor too, no question about that...but if you give me those 7 Brentwood players, Tucker, from Hickman County, and King from Hillwood, you can have the rest of the league as choices for your all-star team and my team would win 9 out of 10 times.
  12. You must be the parent of a pitcher to think walks can never be considered an earned run...in the scenario presented, its an earned run....The same way as if you have 4 walks in a row, the run that scores is an earned run too....and an RBI for the batter also, even thought the batter didnt hit the ball!

What summer team does she play for?...will they ever play around the middle tennessee area....i'd love to see her play....Do you know if the Univ. of Georgia has contacted her? My daughter played at Georgia, and she sounds like the kind of player that the coach there loves, one with speed to burn.
  14. too bad we wont ever get to see these two teams play for the championship, but I dont necessarily agree that Soddy is better head to head, player to player. Goodpasture's starting lineup is as good as anyone's, with 5 girls already signed to a scholarship....and one thing that people tend to overlook is the fact they have a lot of senior leadership with a lot of state-tourney experience. I'll also take Pieroni over Waters at this stage in their careers... when Waters becomes a senior, she will probably be the best in the state.
  15. Very few, with the exception of maybe the UT Coach and possibly the Ole Miss coach since they are so close, will watch the state tourney. Most of the bigger conference coaches, such as the SEC, never pay attention to high school ball. They look primarily at how the girl does in competitive summer leagues where the competition is much better than in high school. The coaches that do show up there are usually there to support the girls that they have already signed, not to recruit other girls.
  16. No one said this is a list of all the best players. Its a list of the best players whose coach is a member of MTSCA. If you feel someone has been left off, then contact that coach and find out why he/she isnt a member. This all-star team is very similar to what they do in college...They have all-american teams such as Easton, Nike, Worth...and the only way you can be an all-american for one of those organization is if the head coach has a contract with them. Congrats to all the girls selected.
  17. Thats a lot of pressure to put on a young player to say she will probably be on an Olympic podium one day. If thats the case, she might want to consider signing a scholarship to a California or Arizona school, because if you look closely at the past Olympic teams, you dont get a look to try out for them unless you have ties to those states.

Trash, since you are probably from the west side of the state, you may not have seen many of the Nashville or chattanooga area teams, which traditionally have some of the better teams in the state....Although St. Benedict is a very good team, I wouldnt rule out Bayor, or GPS to win it all...especially since St. Benedict lost to Brentwood twice...and Baylor did beat Brentwood twice. Chelsea Bramlett may be a great player..i havent seen her play so I cant comment...but she must be good if she is better than Pieronni at Goodpasture who must be good since she signed to play at Tennessee, the outfielder at GPS who's name I cant remember that also signed with UT, the pitcher at Soddy Daisy, the catcher at soddy Daisy, and the first baseman at Baylor. Father Ryan is playing good ball at the present time, and never count out Brentwood Academy who has a good pitcher. Good luck to the Irish and to BA!

Especially good luck to Father Ryan, and Coach Phil on his recovery.....anyone that allows Barry Siebel to hang around has my sympathy...!!!! Ha!
  21. As a parent of one of the departing seniors on this year's Brentwood team, it was a sad way to end the season with so much optimism of reaching State. I've been lucky enough to have two daughters play at the highest competitive level of organized softball, and have experienced the thrill of a state championship and the agony of being eliminated in district tourneys. But nothing compares with watching them grow... from not even knowing what hand to put the glove on as a 6 year old, to being a part of some very good championship teams, of which this year's Brentwood team was one of. Coach Davis at Lipscomb, and Coach Jamie C. have been major influences on our girls, both on and off the field...Thanks to you both! Since I was one of the people who encouraged Brentwood to hire Jamie a few years ago, I am in full support of her. She knows softball, and even more importantly, the girls love her and have fun playing at Brentwood again. As we were recently told, Jamie's record at Brentwood speaks for itself...almost 120 wins in only 3 years. How many schools would love to have almost 40 wins a season? Although I dont have any other daughters to watch play softball, I will continue to follow and support the sport because its been good to my family. Although Lipscomb and Brentwood will be who I root for the most, I will always root for any team in middle tennessee, especially when they play Chattanooga teams! Did Brentwood play their best game against McGavock?...no they didnt, but dont take anything away from McGavock. they did what they had to do to win. With only having one senior next year, the future is bright at Brentwood for years to come...Hopefully the TSSAA will come to its senses and bring the Spring Fling to Murfreesboro, and I can see you play there next year....Good luck to McGavock, Hickman County, Beech, and Rossview...and bring the State title back to middle tennessee where it belongs.
