  1. Well I missed some of Christmas weekend with the crud, but got over it in time to make the Arby’s. Looking forward to Oak Ridge and Harlan County tonight
  2. I thought GW 2A this whole time, probably wouldn’t have mattered though. Dorman looks really good.
  3. Glad Mentor is coming back. Always enjoyed watching them play. I’d say your prediction is right. Not sure what to make of Sullivan East, only time I saw them it was a game where they really outmatched their opponent. Score wise, they hung around with a good Bearden team from Knoxville who won the Arby’s a few years back and is currently undefeated, but also have had some close games against teams they probably should have beaten worse. They will have some athletes, got a couple who’ve got D1 interest in football, but I suspect Mentor is the better basketball team. George Wythe from Virginia looks like they don’t start their season until this week and Dorman from SC is already 8-0. Second game will definitely be tough.
  4. Got to watch South Shore last night that plays Independence in game 1. Talk about size for a high school team. Tall and great length. Played really fast. To the point of sloppy at times, but great size and athleticism.
  5. Only seen them in their opening game with Cosby. They’re solid, but I think you all would be fine. I’m sure that opening game isn’t the best indicator. But if you all are physical, especially on the boards I think you get a lot of easy looks. Cosby could have had a decent halftime lead if they had been able to finish anything at the rim in the first quarter that game.
  6. Saw a good example of this last week in a middle school game. Both the home book keeper and clock keeper got ejected. Honestly, those were probably justified, but the refs definitely didn’t help the situation. Later one of the refs was having an argument with a fan in the stands during play. That should never happen, if the fan said something worth of getting ejected then just toss em, but don’t engage with them in that way. To their credit, they spoke to each other, shook hands and apologized after the game.
  7. Tabernacle played Oak Ridge today in the Bahamas and only lost by 8. TN High may be in for a battle in that play in game.
  8. I’ve always assumed it’s something with their schedule on the Tabernacle side . I’m pretty sure I’ve seen where that some of the tournament organizers help Tabernacle a lot with the travel aspect. I also think it was one of the years recently where they had been here for like a full week before the first game?
  9. They weren’t there last either. They were there in 21 when the field was really loaded. Finished third in 2017, won it all in 2018 then they didn’t return for 2019. Not sure if it’s Braeden’s decision or the tournament director didn’t extend an invite this go around.
  10. Should be there for all of them. Look forward to this week every year.
  11. They are not. Maryville and Oak Ridge will be in it though.
  12. This is really how it should be. Your post made me curious so I looked and in all 6 classifications only one single team seeded below a 2 remains. Should drop to only the top 2 make the playoffs and could do bowl games for 3 and 4 seeds maybe. Even something like the 3 seed from one region vs 3 seed from another to make the bowl game more “even”
  13. There’s been an influx of trolls on the Region 1A threads this year, most of them disappeared after Cloudland whipped Jellico. Guess they are coming back around for the playoffs.
  14. Ditto on Monkey Town Brewing, used to work frequently in Rhea County and went there each time. Good spot
  15. Not truly sure. If you go by what they had listed prior to the start of the season they would have had around 20 who were sophomore or above. At least a couple from that list are injured. Not sure how many quit or joined along the way.
  16. McKinney will be out for us and not sure Repass shoulder allows him to throw or not. If it does he will step back in at QB if not, we may be hurting to figure out what to do offensively.
  17. Great point, the hollow I grew up in when I was a kid had at least about 10 of us all the same age as kids running around. The last 5-10 years when I go visit my dad up there it’s more like 2 families with kids and the rest are new to the area and retired.
  18. That’s definitely part of it, heck almost every athlete I played with at Unaka, myself included are no longer on the Creek and their kids play for Elizabethton at some level currently. Lack of a consistent youth program also hurts. One of my old friends tried helping get it off the ground a few years back, he said it was awful. Couldn’t get help, parents used it like it was a time to drop all their kids off and go do whatever they wanted. He told me once his son would play for Unaka if they put any effort into helping with the youth program, but he’s moved him to Elizabethton because they didn’t. Unaka use to dominate baseball the way Cloudland does football in region 1, it was because we had a solid youth baseball program. Everyone boy at Unaka was playing baseball from tee ball on. The league there shut down and you saw the drop off in baseball too. It may be restarted again but not sure at what level or if it even is.
  19. The sophomore QB who stepped in has done well. Repass is back but has moved to WR. Not heard anything about the running back that got hurt before the season. If he gets back and up to speed though he’s a weapon. Dropping that one at NG last week hurt.
  20. Not sure you’ll see much against Hampton. They’re a little bit more healthy finally, just get out of that game still healthy is the biggest thing.
  21. It’s a shame homecoming was so distracting, really prevented the Landers from making this about 50-6 instead…
