  1. On the subject of 171 Region 3 would have had a medalist had Ethan Beddingfield not gotten injured. Recieved a stinger in his first match of the region tournament and it progressively got worse. He went to the hospital and the doctor said he damaged the brachial plexus (group of nerves that connect to the base of the spine and run down the arm. Controls the upper arm including the feeling in the entire arm except trap muscle). Had a solid shot at medaling.

  4. Teams it will be the same story different year. 1. Bradley 2. Cleveland 3. Greenback 4. Walker Valley Then everyone else. Individuals are harder to pick. Wait a few weeks and it will be a little more clear. 125 will be a finals between Pitts (Bradley) and Fuller (Rhea). 135 Miller (Greenback) 140 Carter (Rhea)
  5. Nathaniel Corvin graduated from Rhea County in 07 with me and he went from 280 during football to 189 for his senior season of wrestling. I personally was 180+ every year and cut to 145 as a sophomore 152 as a junior and 160 as a senior.
  6. Texas23, Yes, I see your point on my post. It is frustrating though because that is how many are acting.
  7. I am a volunteer coach at McMinn County High School this year and we had a young lady, Kelsey Hampton, that was the 112 state champion. I will proclaim to anyone that she is one of the hardest working wrestlers (guy or girl) I have ever met or had the opportunity to be around. She is now trying to talk her dad into letting her skip her junior prom so she can practice twice a day and go to Oklahoma to wrestle in a girls national tournament. How many girls do you know that would do this? Very very few. There are not many guys that would miss a chance of fun at prom to train and wrestle halfway across the country. This young lady is a true competitor. I had a few girls on my teams when I was in high school and they also worked extremely hard. Harder then most guys in fact. Anyone that thinks girls wrestling is silly, perverted, or a waste of time is a complete and total idiot! These girls are more courageous then the guys. Here are my reasons: 1. They are trying to get a "unpopular" thought and practice accepted and sanctioned by the state. 2. Most have to practice against guys that are bigger and stronger. 3. Most are more dedicated then guys because MOST guys would quit if they had the negative comments and talk about them in their sport of choice. 4. Most have to put up with many CLOSED minded people (Some of which are posting on this thread). 5. Worst of all is many of these girls are very nice, intelligent, sweet young ladies that have to hear how their sport is perverted and in some way makes them less ladylike. In conclusion, if you are closed minded, ignorant, or think girls wrestling is silly here is some very good advice. Get out of your seat and leave! If you are in your own mind or openly going to belittle this athletes and their accomplishments then you are a true moron! So quit living in the 1940's and realize that America has changed for the BETTER! So no one can say I am just hiding behind a screenname I am: Barry Kauffman I wrestled at: Rhea County High School 04-07 Carson-Newman College 07-08
  8. BCB, This is possibly the saddest post I have ever read! It will be a shame to not be able to read your post or see you at anymore tournaments. I have only ever spoken to you once. You probably won't remember this as I am easily forgotten. My senior year (06-07) at the Knoxville Catholic Tournament. You came up to a group of the Rhea County wrestlers and asked "Where is your 160 lber, Barry at?" We talked for a few moments and you said to me that you would look for me in the finals. That was a surprise to me that you would say that considering my own coach said that it was very unlikely for me to make the finals. I did not make the finals, but I had a pretty good tournament. With that said, I hope to see you at least check in on the boards and share some of your insights and humor. It is a shame that you will have to suffer through Basketball. (Uhhhh! I hate typing that word!) Barry Kauffman
  9. Oh dang! I'm such an idiot! I forgot about Joe Proctor and Nick White. I know both personally and I forgot them. WOW! haha
  10. Oh well that is cool. It is a great story no matter what. That has to be an amazing feeling to be your schools first state champ. there were 2 like that this year that I know of.... Blake Ridenour of Maryville and Kole Bishop of Sullivan East. were there any others?
  11. That is an awesome story about Kole Bishop and Coach Logsdon. I wonder if his coach told him that? Rarely will a wrestler talk to a coach he doesn't know about something like that.

  13. XxWRESTLExX you are right he did tech Hunter Daniel from Rhea County. As for getting screwed over I doubt that. I think Lindsey is a great wrestler but Hunter had the flu at regions. Hunter also got the job done when it counted! State! Do not use your first few post to belittle or in some way lessen the accomplishments of a wrestler. Hunter was an extremely hard worker and a very nice guy. He is a very close friend of mine. With that being said, I was at the region 3 tournament and it is a tragedy what happen to him. He was/is my pick to win state.
  14. Yeah true. We all know how cheap the TSSAA is. I could see letting them use the cheap paper ones if they could wear it on their ankle and put the match band over it during matches.
  15. Could the TSSAA make it a rubber "live strong" bracelet that can be removed during matches or a lanyard with a pass on it like the coaches wear?

  17. Personally, IMHO, I would like to see a 16 team tourney based off of strength rankings. I'll elaborate. If you have a good team like Bradley they will wrestle anyone that gives them a challenge. If you are a good team in a weak region I do not believe you should get a free ride to the Duals. When I was in high school (At Rhea Co.) my junior year we were 20-7 and finished 4th in the region (came in last in a 3 way tie Rhea-Cleveland-Cookeville for 2nd) my senior year we were 4th again I believe; with a record of 21-5. I strongly believe, had we been anywhere other then the glorious powerhouse of region 3, we would have went to the state duals (not that we were one of the elite teams in the state; just trying to prove a point). I'm not complaining a bit. We lost fair and square. My point is that with the strength rankings it would force teams to wrestle outside of their region to get a legit shot at the duals. Teams like Bradley, Cleveland, Soddy, Ooltewah, and possibly even Walker Valley and Cookeville should be left at home. With the strength rankings the best teams would go because they had wrestled the best teams in the state. AGAIN THIS IS MY HUMBLE OPINION ON A SOLUTION!
  18. 103 1. Tyler Pitts - Bradley 2. Brian Alvarado - Cleveland 3. Junior Keeling - McMinn Co. 112 1. Ethan Hames - Bradley 2. Nic Fuller - Rhea 3. Brandon Strickland - Cleveland 119 1. 19. Oh, it's great to be a Florida Gator. Yes, it's great to be a Florida Gator. Go gators! Thank God I was born in Gainesville and was blessed enough to be a true Florida fan. It's great that Teague chose Florida. Another great player goes to a great school and a great team. Maybe he will help them win their 3rd in 4 years! Florida Gators- SEC Champions: 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2006, 2008 National Champions: 1996, 2006, 2008 Greatest Team: Always and Forever! It will stink BADLY if he flips his verbal. He should want a ring.
  20. Bradley (Region 3) for sure.... Cleveland (2nd Region 3)
  21. First and foremost I HATE TWINKIES! I wrestled 145 as a soph 152 as a junior and 160 as a senior and 165 as a college freshman.... so I'm far from fat... And it was just an option!
  22. I completely agree with you on people needing to boost the college opportunities for collegiate wrestling.... although most of the smaller wrestling schools (Carson-Newman, King, Cumberland, etc.) will allow anyone to come to the room and wrestle. Schools like UTC however don't so we need to get schools like them to open up the room to and allow guys to form their own club team or something because not every kid can afford 25,000 for tuition to C-N or King....
  23. I personally think that we need to make the weight classes in relation to the size of kids in schools now.... Most forfeits come at 103-119 so maybe dropping 103 and 112 would be a good option and add in a 235 and 260 weight class.... I was a 160 in high school and 165 in college so I'm not biased to the big guys or the small guys at all.... With kids getting bigger now due to the hormones we place in the majority of our foods, weight training and supplement use for other sports, and just a general rise in the average size of kids now we should adjust the weight classes accordingly.... I would suggest these weight classes 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 235, 260, 285.... Yes that is still 14 weight classes but it would not have 225 lbs. heavyweights which is the case at many schools and it would also not have so many schools giving up forfeits at 103 and 112.... IMHO this should be how the weights are distributed....
  24. These are my predictions to the finals with the winner on top. My best match award goes to Browning vs Hames (112). Outstanding Wrestler goes to Jake Young (Ooltewah) or Cameron Croy (Brentwood). 103: Alvarado (Cleveland) : Mullins (Notre Dame) 112: Browning (Greenback) : Hames (Bradley) 119: Biddy (Bradley) : Sluder (Greenback) 125: Boone (Notre Dame) : Beazley (Independence) 130: Miller (Greenback) : Stewart (Soddy Daisy) 135: Graham (Bradley) : Hood (Ooltewah) 140: Seneca (Independence) : Usary (Science Hill) 145: Bishop (Sullivan East) : Taylor (Red Bank) 152: Ridenour (Maryville) : Mobley (Red Bank) 160: Proctor (Cookeville) : Disney (Bradley) 171: Young (Ooltewah) : Salada (Cookeville) 189: Croy (Brentwood) : Kennedy (Blackman) 215: Patton (Blackman) : Worley (Hixson) 285: Peters (Cleveland) : Leonard (Halls)
  25. Thursday, Dec. 4 McMinn County vs Walker Valley 9-68---- Walker Valley won One bright spot is at 125 Trent Swafford (McMinn) beat Travis Dias (WV) who was on Coach Bray's "Ones to Watch" list.
