  1. Thanks. i hope that young lady gets cleared but at the same time, I hope the freshman puts pressure on her to step her game up. Don't just hand the starting job back to her. That's what it's all about. I will start a new weekly one. Thanks for the suggestion.
  2. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
  3. I was wrong on the score. It was 63-15, my score keeper missed the first bucket.
  4. I can name 5 off the top of my head. HMMMMM Wilson Central, Shelbyville, Cleveland, Memphis Northside, Bartlett. No disrespect to any other teams just based on what I've seen or heard.
  5. After sleeping it off. I don't think we are where I want us to be yet. Yes, we played better but there were a lot of things that I saw that I didn't like from my team. Conditioning was better but not where it needs to be, at this point. We ran a lot before Mitchell came and we didn't seem to be too tired. I think by next Wednesday, we should be ready to play our first game. Some of the new girls are starting to come around. I started 3 freshmen, 1 sophomore and 1 senior against Mitchell. They did pretty good. We are still a ways away from it coming together. Thanks to Memphis Northside, we got a good wake up call on conditioning. They've been working harder ever since.
  6. Hey, thanks. I was going off of the bracket that was sent a few weeks ago. This should be a fun tournament! Lausanne, in my opinion is one of the top teams in the shelby metro area, if not the best. I was really disappointed that they didn't win it all last year. If I was a betting man, I would have lost all of my money last year.
  7. Millington vs Mitchell today. The coach didn't use some of his main girls. We shot the ball like I was use to seeing us shoot it. I had 3 girls in double figures. We won 63-13. We play again on Wednesday and I think he is going to use some more of his main players. Some were out due to injury. I'm not sure who they are though. My shooting guard that shot so poorly last Thursday, found her rhythm today. She had 5 three's. She came off the bench and played much better. Anyway, how was everyone else doing?
  8. This was some very helpful information. I totally understand what someone was saying about how a team played a little disconnected from what they had accomplished over the summer. I hope they can find it again. Hopefully, we can get it back too. Thank God for preseason scrimmages.
  9. Houston High is having a tournament on the 17th and 18th. The teams are Houston, Millington, Clarksville-Northeast, St. Agnes, ECS, Bolton, Harding Academy and Collierville. The bracket continues on the next day giving us two more games. It should be fun. A ton of basketball to be played. Collierville vs. ECS 3:00 St. Agnes vs. Bolton 4:30 Houston vs. Harding Academy 6:00 Millington vs. Clarksville-Northeast 7:30
  10. After finishing the stats from the 1st half of the Memphis Northside scrimmage. It's official. We just flat out didn't have it that game. I know I mentioned that we had a lot of open looks right. Well, one of my shooting guards was 1 for 8 in the first quarter and ended the half shooting 3 for 10. As a team we shot 7 for 28 in the half. From the film, only about 4 of those shots were contested. We were missing wide open shots. If we shot atleast 50 percent we would have been right there with them. we were 0 for 2 on free throws in the first half. As I said before, all of that can be fixed. I haven't done the stats on the second half yet but the game was a lot closer. 16 to 20. We still missed shots that we would normally make but this is all a learning experience.
  11. Ok, sir. Last I checked the title of this post was top players in middle tn, and across the state... I simply added players from my team. since you saw us play so much, why didn't you take the liberty of confirming or denying what I said about the players instead of telling me what I should do with my grown time. Why shouldn't I say that I have some top players if that's what I believe? Obviously, some people don't understand what "LOL" means. That means laugh out loud, showing that I'm speaking in a joking manner and it isn't to be taken as an arrogant or rude statement. You don't have a clue of how much time I've spent with x's and o's nor do you have any idea how little time I get on here. A great deal of my time is consumed with doing my job. I watch very little tv, aside from the time I spend with my family. My playbook, game film and stat program are all on my computer. A lot of times, I'm logged into coacht and I'm not really looking at the website. I keep it up looking at teams schedules and opponents beaten. So if you wish to comment about my team... great. If you wish to talk to me about x's and o's come talk to me. I'm a very civil man. I'm willing to bet you that I know more than you think I do. Have you ever been to any of our practices and/or film sessions? So how would you know what I teach? Just because you see a lot of words doesn't mean I have to find each letter on the keyboard. My college education was very meaningful. I can type with the best of them. I know of a lot of games that we should have won. When your rotation is limited to 6 people, you can expect to have it rough. So since I'm getting the credit for losing so many, does that mean you are giving me credit for the ones we won? I didn't think you would. Case closed. We won the same amount of games last year that they won in the previous 2 years combined. In regards to the "class of the districts". I'm well aware of who wins and loses. I know that both schools have great coaches and great talent. It's hard to win without talent. You may get a few but talent is a balm. It can cure the disease of losing. Good coaching is on the flip side of that. I've seen great talent be killed by poor coaching too.
  12. I appreciate the responses yall. I was wondering what was he talking about. I responded to a question someone asked me on here about my career as a coach and I expounded on what my experience was. I guess I shouldn't use this as a blog or should I? I like to hear what other people have to say and how their preseason is going. I'm all for it. The season is right around the corner and I'm looking to improve all areas,(coaching as well) look at different styles and just try new line-ups before it's on the books. Getting advice and sharing some is what it's all about. Coacht is the place I thought we could do that without so much harsh criticism. I guess my enthusiasm has been mistaken as arrogance, but that couldn't be in the same zip code as the truth. Indian, Hedge, bucd, et al, thanks for your comments. I was starting to feel like T. Owens...lol
  13. yeah, we played collinwood this summer at the UTM camp. They have some real talent. The coach is doing a great job with them too. I expect to see them deep in the state tourney. I'll be shocked if they aren't.
  14. From what I saw this summer. I really liked Greenfield. They were the best team at the UTM camp this summer. The girls seemed to have ownership of that coach's system. If anyone knows him, tell him that I'm impressed with what he is doing there and to keep up the great work. They should be tough to beat this year if they stay connected to what they were doing this summer.
  15. Thanks for the info Wingman10, I've got to make a trip to see them play. I hope they are in a tourney during thanksgiving. That is the only time we don't play when other teams usually play. I love watching good basketball and getting other coach's approach to different looks. One thing that I've learned, you should never stop learning and you don't have the market cornered as far as knowing everything there is to know about this ever-changing game called girls basketball.
  16. That should be a fun game to watch.
  17. no, you did a good job. Thanks for the info. If anyone else has something to input feel free. I'll add what I see about Mitchell on Monday.
  18. Great idea PHargis. I hate that I didn't get to go see any of those games. My little boy had a playoff game and I had to be there. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
  19. What is really going on with you Jake? Just speak your mind. You obviously don't like me too much. You don't even know me. I don't recall begging you to come read any of my post. In 3 days, we weren't in the kind of condition that we needed to be in to play the style that we want to employ this year. We will be ready for our first contest. We don't have an official game until the 20th. That's all a part of getting them ready for that day. Having a scrimmage this early is a gut check to see where we are. So thank you for showing so much interest in what I have to say but you can save the sarcasm. If you would like to scrimmage us, let's set it up. You know where I am, what school are you coaching for? Oh yeah, you can even be my personal chump, I mean champ for all of the wonderful things you say to me on here. Is this what you want me to say? Are you happy now? I've given you some attention. Have a good one!
  20. Who won the game? and what was the score?
  21. Ok, we have Mitchell on Monday. After having a heart to heart with my girls and watching the film from the scrimmage against Memphis Northside we saw how terrible we played. First, I take full blame by not getting them in top notch shape to play at the level I expect them to play. We haven't gotten in the condition where we were this summer. These young ladies were given a task after the scrimmage and the next day at practice, they all met the challenge with an intensity that hasn't been there in none of the previous 4 days. After having film session, I felt better about the lost... I know that sounds crazy, but listen. We didn't play ball that day. On defense we were like snails. "I love film session" The eye in the sky don't lie and we got to see how we didn't execute anything worth a dime. Missing easy layups. We played like a team out of shape and yes, this is the fault of the coach. My young ladies insist that I don't take all the blame for that but it is my fault. After 3 days of practice we got the chance to see a team that worked harder at getting in condition, Memphis Northside. I'm very excited about what we have over here. I got the best seat in the house to watch this team grow, mature and just get better. The desire is there. I think in about a week we will be where we need to be. How is everyone else doing? How is Team morale and work ethic?
  22. I'm just trying to find out where the play days in the memphis area are being held. Everyone is tight lipped around here. I just want to watch some good basketball yall. Help us out! c'mon don't hide it, divide it.
  23. This came from the TSSAA website: NOTE: Announcements concerning play-days or pre-season tournaments will not be posted. Also, please keep in mind that according to the TSSAA Bylaws, all sports must practice a minimum of 3 days from the beginning practice date before working with another school.
  24. Are you speaking of Memphis Northside lady cougars? They are going to be...Northside. expect a good team to be in your face playing hard. They execute their coaches game plan. Ashley Mcgill can knock down the 3. Post is strong with good free throw shooting.
