  1. My question is have any home school kids applied, but were not given the opportunity to try out because the school system would not approve their home school education plan/curriculum.
  2. Is he eligible to play basketball immediately?
  3. I did find this on the NFHS web site. http://www.nfhs.org/media/885875/announcer-responsibilities1.pdf
  4. Is this a TSSAA rule or a NFHS rule? I could no find anything on the TSSAA web site.
  5. I agree, but the law is the law. Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-3050 ... (e) (1) If any of the public schools established under the jurisdiction of an LEA are members of an organization or an association that regulates interscholastic athletic competition, and if such organization or association establishes or maintains eligibility requirements for home school students desiring to participate in interscholastic athletics at a member school, then the LEA shall permit participation in interscholastic athletics at those schools by home school students who satisfy the eligibility requirements established by the organization or association. (2) This subsection (e) does not guarantee that a home school student trying out for an interscholastic athletics team will make the team or supplant the authority of coaches or other school officials in deciding who makes the team. This subsection (e) is intended to guarantee only that the home school student shall not be prohibited from trying out for an interscholastic athletics team, if the student is eligible under the rules of the organization or association, solely by reason of the student's status as a home school student. (3) This subsection (e) shall not be construed to limit or supplant the authority of the organization or association to determine eligibility and to establish, modify and enforce its rules and eligibility requirements, including those applicable to home school students. TSSAA is the main "organization or an association that regulates interscholastic athletic competition" in Tennessee. TSSAA has a rule that allows home school participation. The key word in paragraph (e)(3) above is "shall." I believe that if a school system just arbitrarily says a home school student can not play, they would lose in court. Does anyone know of "home shoolers" who have applied and were denied the opportunity to try out for the zoned school team(s)?
  6. I heard a rumor (the key here is rumor) that the Chowbay kid has transferred from MJ to Wilson Central to play basketball. Can anyone confirm?
  7. I have never claimed to be the brightest crayon in the box, but what does this mean?
  8. Directly from The Tennessean: "I was given no reason," Burchett said. "It's just kind of disturbing and disheartening." That does not sound like the coach wanted to move on.
  9. You left out Portland in Sumner County.
  10. This is one of the funnier statements I have read on here in a while. I guess it is part of “going into all the world and spreading the good news.†All kidding aside, we all know it is going to be very difficult for small rural schools to compete in team sports other than football, basketball and baseball/softball. Without some sort of structural change (split, reclassification, etc.) it will take another generation or two to build up a soccer culture in rural areas that will develop enough talent to compete for championships. The community I live in (a AAA high school community) did not even have a recreational soccer league until 25 or 30 years after the urban or suburban areas. We are miles behind the schools like Franklin and Brentwood.
  11. I heard it will be at Mt. Juliet.
  12. tennessee code 49-6-3050, Home schools, requires public schools to allow home schoolers participation. Public schools can not opt out.
  13. Don't count your "chicky's" before they hatch.
  14. Heard the score was 18-14. Lebanon freshmen had a good season. Let's hope that translates to the varsity level.
  15. How will the split up Middle Tenn. Teams? To keep schools in the same county together, they could do this. Cookeville, Lebanon, Wilson Central, Mt. Juliet, McGavock, Antioch, Overton and Warren County and Oakland, Blackman, Riverdale, Siegel, Smyrna, Ravenwood, Franklin, and Coffee County
  16. Class 5A to 6A Maryville High School With Maryville High School requesting to move up to Class 6A, LaVergne High School they agreed moved to Class 5A. I wonder how hard they had to twist Lavergne's arm to convince them to move down.
  17. In Wilson County, I know of two kids who are home schooled and are playing for their zoned high school. One plays football and one plays baseball. I am curious how extensive it is in other counties and how it is working out. I do not know how well it is working out for the two kids in Wilson County. I believe the one playing football gets significant playing time.
  18. Very few people will argue with you that Station Camp has the most talent in 9AAA this year. Talent goes in cycles. With that being said, you still have to play the games. Coaching, injuries, health, fitness and mental state (and sometimes referees) play a huge part in determining who wins on a given night. It should be an exciting season.
  19. I am no expert in this, but I thought after both teams take 5 kicks, then in each successive round of kicks both teams get one kick. Wouldn't it be impossible to have an odd total number of kicks after 10?
  20. I heard Cookeville won in kicks from the mark.
  21. The Wilson County Schools policy on transfers requires the receiving school to have space available. The last I heard was Mt. Juliet is full. I personally believe open zones breed more animosity among the schools. I would prefer that there not be open zones.
  22. Lebanon boys split with Mt. Juliet and Wilson Central last year.
  23. Abby Wright (formerly Lebanon to Lancaster Christian) is at Oakland. Do not know about others.
  24. Well stated SoccerInTennessee.
  25. There was some discussion several years ago about some of the AAA West TN teams wanting to play in Div. II so they could get "big gates" at football games when they played the Div. II teams in the area. It never materialized.
