  1. Anybody have any news about the Alcoa-Powell scrimmage?
  2. We didn't live in an air conditioned world in the good old days.
  3. A good coach is a good teacher, coaching is teaching.
  4. William Blount opened in 1979 and played Alcoa everyear until 2005, The series was always very competitive and was a huge money maker for both schools. I would guess the series would be pretty close to even.
  5. Amen- We'll never know because they didn't play. Which is a shame! The home school could have made 40,000 dollars on a game between the Tornadoes and the Govs.
  6. University School of Jackson is a private school. They have great athletic facilities.
  7. If they put Alcoa in a region that has four teams, they won't be able to have a seven game schedule, because nobody will play them.
  8. The 1967 Alcoa vs. Knox Holston triple overtime win that made Alcoa state champs. Alcoa's David Davis made a jumper that went in with the horn sounding.
  9. I was so thrilled the see Bill's son Joel win the 160 lb class. I have known Coach Brimer through a lot of ups and downs and he has always been first-class. I hope he becomes an official and Tater gets to sit in the corner for his first match. Congratulations to Coach Brimer and his family. Clint Abbott
  10. Coach Bill Satterfield came to me while I was serving as assistant principal at Greenback and said that he wanted to start a wrestling team. I said that I would help a little and I did, but Bill Satterfield gets all the credit for starting a wrestling team at Greenback. The school and the community have bought into the program and Justin Ridge has done a great job with some help from able assistants. Great job Nation. The sky is the limit, if you keep working hard and I'm sure you will with Coach Justin Ridge's help. Clint Abbott- a peon in the history of Greenback Wrestling.
  11. I haven't joined the ranks of active officials and I can't open this to watch myself. Clint
  12. All officials make mistakes and this official made one. Get over it. Clint
  13. I've been around Alcoa football since 1969 and it is hard to compare teams, but the 1989 team had 6 guys that received football scholarships. We had 50 boys in the senior class and 10 of them received athletic scholarships.
  14. Stars, I believe it was 28 to 21 with Maryville scoring twice in the fourth quarter. I getting old and I could be wrong.
  15. I wish that all people that are criical of officials would pay the fee and put on the stripes. I officiated for a long time, ask reftn, and I was never perfect, but I worked hard and I knew the rules and I was in position to make the call. Get off your duff and go to work. All refereeing groups need new blood. Clint Abbott- reffed for 42 years.
  16. Alcoa's population is close to 8500.
  17. This was a no contest, alcoa was ahead 31 to 0 at halftime and they scored on their first possession in the second half and the youngsters took over ane the final was 38 to 0.
  18. The score was 40 to 13 at the half and the final was Alcoa 59, GP 36 and the youngsters played all the second half.
  19. I served as principal at Alcoa High School for 22 years and I always told our athletes to act as they would when they were no longer champions. Show humility and they did. I'm sure that the present administration wants nothing more than for their students to be positive role models for the younger students. We have been fortunate to have good athletes and dedicated coaches.
  20. The score at the end of the first quarter was 0 to 0. After 4 minutes were gone in the second half, the score was Alcoa 35, Sweetwater 0. The final was 49 for Alcoa and 0 for Sweetwater
