Well we are about to see how good we are tommorrow night when we will take the floor against Brentwood Academy. Hopefully our guys won't take this game for granted because we beat them by 20 in the summer but BA was missing their two best guards to football we were told. If there is a big game this year for us it is this one. As a coach i want this game so bad going into our holiday tourney at carbondale as well into our district play with craigmont and RE. Should be a very interesting game. We got a scouting report from the shelbyville coach but it will come down to how hard we play and whether we execute what we practiced today. Yesterday we had the kids come in and shoot and do a few minor things on the floor and then played whiffle ball just to give them a break from basketball and have a little fun. We should be ready to play though. I'll post our Carbondale schedule when it is sent to us.

Are there not any other good Jackson teams this year?? I saw Jackson Southside beat JNS by like 1 and then Jackson Southside beat JCM or something by a couple. Did JCM lose a few players last year because they made a good run in our region last year to the championship. Just wondering don't get to watch those teams much unless they are playing in memphis.

We play BA friday night but haven't heard anything about them. Anybody know how they looked against shelbyville. Is Shelbyville the same team from last year or did they lose some players. thanks for the help.

Liberty by 40

Is Ridgeway down this year or did Liberty just play that good? We (Bartlett) scrimmaged Liberty about a week before the season started and they beat us by six. I understand they didn't have their best play at the time because he was hurt but I still wouldn't have thought they were 23 points better than Ridgeway. I know that Liberty is good to play RE to 3 and from what my dad said who was at the game they should have won that game as well. They have the toughest schedule from what i've seen in the state and that's in any classification. They will be well prepared by March to win the Gold ball again.

i can't find a score for this game anywhere. Does anyone have information on this game?

I can't find scores on them or anything, of course it's a little hard to find all that being in memphis. Can somebody give me an update of how they are playing and their record. thanks.1

I think a lot of coaches stay away from this site other than Coachgat because not much is said about Memphis basketball on here and if it is it doesn't get much reaction out of others on the site. I try to get our schedule on here and the results and when i'm reading the paper in the morning will post scores if they aren't posted. I think it isn't the best for a coach to be posting much on here because you start saying stuff u shouldn't by pointing out kids names that played bad and saying stuff about other teams that you played. 1

I don't know the kids name but Jackson North Side has got a Freshman that is pretty good. The only problem is that he doesn't have much of a supporting cast. In a few years though he should be unstoppable. He's definitly their best player now and can play as a fresh. Give him after Christmas and you won't be able to stop him.

I can reply to all of this since i coach at bartlett. Bartlett has 7 Seniors on the team this year, 5 that will get most of the playing time. JNS is AA they have been the last 2 or 3 years I believe. The Frosh that JNS has is going to be pretty good this year and years to come, wish we had him. With our Senior leadership and some Juniors stepping up to play hopefully we'll turn the Bartlett program around to how everybody remembers it. Arlington is in our district this year but will struggle in it's first year. They are a pretty big team just going to lack experience. We will not be participating in the Centralia Holiday Tourney this year. We will be playing in the Carbondale Holiday Tourney at Southern Ill. University. IF you are going to Centralia this year let me know what the new gym is like. If any coaches are reading this I recommend trying to play in the Centralia tourney atleast once, I promise it's an experience that your Kids will never forget especially if you play the Orphans. Good luck to JNS this year and hopefully with the hard work and believe me we need a lot of it, Bartlett will be back on the map again for basketball

I will have to be the only one on here to take RE. Don't get me wrong Liberty is a great team but I think RE just has to much for Liberty to handle. I know that it will be brought up that people were saying Mitchell had to much for Liberty to handle last year during state but there is a big difference between the two teams and it's called a COACH! It should be a very good game and I will be there to watch the whole thing. Good Luck to both teams.

I coach boys basketball in 14AAA. I will put my word in and say that Bartlett girls can play with everyone. They lost to Memphis Northside last year in substate by 3. As for the rest of the district i don't think they are that great. One thing i will say though is it looks like there will be a new champion ontop of 14AAA girls because talk is going around that they won't put a team on the court next year. No sure of all the details but that's the talk going around the school. If they do have a team watch out for them because they are going to be good. Some of the girls are sick of the preseason stuff and said that they all quit, but you know once bball season gets here they will all want to be out on the court again.

I'm a coach in Craigmonts district. The news that i've gotten on Josh Street is that he was put in jail for armed robbery. I heard news about this and everything was tossed up in the air. There was a big fight at Craigmont and it was said that Street was in the middle of it. Today at conditioning i was told by some players that play pick up games with guys from Craigmont and RE that he was no longer on the team.

I think polls are stupid. I agree that it gives the kids something to brag about. But who are voting on these teams. I'll give a prime example. I know this is the boys forum but just bare with me. The Bartlett girls played an outstanding season and if your going to rank teams then they deserved to be ranked. Here's what I don't understand though. The girls were ranked in the memphis dandy dozen for the most part of the year but they weren't in the top 5. Now how are you not ranked in the top 5 in the city of memphis but you are ranked #2 in the state of tennessee according to those poles?? This makes no sense. Either people in Memphis don't know what they are doing or the people doing the state poll are giving them way to much credit. I don't think polls really matter for anything. It's like one poster said, it's not like they get a higher seed in tournaments or anything like that because they are in the top 5 in the state.

We want to play a tough schedule before going into district play. We have already contacted Ridgeway and Hamilton and looking for some good teams in Jackson. Who will be tough teams to schedule next year. Give me you input and we might just see each other next playing each other. Thanks.......

You made a good point. To tell you the truth I need help on this one. I don't know how they will replace their two leading scorers but I believe those are they only two that are leaving. As for their freshman teams they have been unreal. I know when our sophmores this past year were freshman we got thumped twice by Ridgeway and we went on to win over 20 games and winning our Freshman tournament. They have talent in that program that will be good i just don't know names and stuff like that. I still look for them to be good. Next year we are trying to load our schedule up. We've tried calling Ridgeway and Hamilton but no return calls. Our kids are ready to play the best comp. in Memphis and possibly Jackson to get us ready for 14AAA. If you know of any teams that will be good in Jackson let me know and we'll try to schedule them. Ya'll will be getting a good game from us this year.

People won't come right now because it is to cold. Plus it doesn't help that March Madness is going on right now and a lot of people have interest in that. But i agree with whoever posted earlier that said WIN

It all comes down to how bad the kids want it. I know our season got cut short when we lost in the first round of the district. One week later I had kids calling me saying they were not going to put up with the season we just had and started meeting me at the gym a week after we had just lost. So since Feb. we have been in the gym lifting and doing individual workouts to help them with whatever they need help on. Maybe West Tennessee has more drive to be better and win.

I think the west dominates so much because of the competition they play all year long. Playing tougher competition gets you ready for your run at the end of the year. I don't know what competition is like it the east but in AAA ever since White County won back to back it's been all West. I think what also helps the West is the tournaments that they play in during the Holidays. Getting out of your state and playing teams from all around helps as well. Doing this helps you by playing different styles of basketball that maybe your not use to seeing in the West which helps you at state playing against middle and east teams. I don't think the west has better coaches than anybody else because from what ya'll say there are great coaches that our in the east and middle tn as well. I just think what helps the west like i said earlier is the competition that they have to play night in and out. If you look at it the good teams have stuggled a bunch of the not so good teams that they have played.

I would like to be in the running for this. As a coach I like getting on here to see what people have to say about teams that we migh play and to be a part of something that lets you express your thoughts without anything really getting out of control. I'm pretty much a newcomer I guess you would say on coacht. Letting people know about how your team is going and praising kids on their efforts is all welcomed on here and when it comes down to it you have all thecjamces to do it on this site. I don't know about Hamilton in AAA next year. They are losing a bunch this year. Don't get me wrong they will still be good. But watch out for Ridgeway next year they are returning a bunch. Raleigh Egypt will good again as well. I talked to Coach Adams at our region tournament and he said he thinks next year they will be better. He said that they'll have a Freshman that goes by "TANK" that said will end up starting Varsity by Christmas. Don't doubt this kid. He came to our individual camp this summer and he can play. I'm going to say this and ya'll will probably laugh and yes i'm a coach there as well. But don't count out Bartlett next year to make a run. I know our record was 12-17 this year which would say i'm crazy for saying what i'm saying. We lost 11 games this past year when trailing by only 4 points with less than 2 minutes left in the game. We were young and gave RE a run for their money both times we played them. Hopefully this year with 8 seniors we have grown up and can find ways to win these games. This past year we had only 3 people that had ever played in a Varsity game so pretty much it was everyones first year at this level. Whoever it is next year good luck to everybody.

Man I'm not downing anybody from Hamilton or Shelbyville. To tell you the truth I'm more frustrated with Hamilton for not giving ya'll any respect. I guess you see it a different way. I'm just saying that if your an adult writing all of this stuff about the other school and what they would do if they would have lost by saying they'd probably commit suicide then it's time to grow up. Why can't the two schools just give credit to each other for what the KIDS did on their season and in this game. It wasn't their fault the refs stunk. This isn't even about the KIDS anymore it's about everything that went on around them. I understand that you are an alum and fan and that's great I just think that you don't have to talk the way everyone has been talking about a bunch of KIDS!!

I hope this is a bunch of high school kids writing all this because if it is a bunch of adults then we are in a lot of trouble. People on here need to grow up and just give credit where credit is due and it is due to HAMILTON and SHELBYVILLE.
