  1. VB im pretty sure you stated you were not part of the program. Therefore how can you say the facts can be verified if you werent there. You also said assuming you havent spoken to the coach would be assuming a lot. So either you really cant verify the facts because it's just hearsay or you are one of the 7 gone and you are currently not a part of the program. Either way if you want to shed light how about shedding the positive light. Blackman middle has had the same head coach for awhile now and is a top notch program. And Nate Shearon does a great job running the youth league. The future of Blackman is bright. Just need the right coach to overtake Oakland.
  2. VB there are actually rules and moderators to enforce those rules. I will say you are getting pretty close to the line with some of your allegations. Big thing is you are dragging someone's name into the mud for really no positive reason. And if you believe it really should be known how about convincing all of your buddies to speak up instead you being the messenger. I mean if you are truly not connected then why is it your business to make sure it is known.
  3. Blaze I agree with some of what you stated. First it's not just private schools getting talent from metro schools. Metro has created an environment where metro kids go to schools that win, not their zoned schools. If athletically gifted kids can't get into or afford private schools they are going to schools that win in metro. As far as teacher pay, metro is near the top in the state and in many cases much more than private school pay. You are correct in facilities but some are pretty good in metro. East and Glencliff have all new facilities. Hillsboro and Hillwood soon to come. Now do they compare to Ensworth or LA, no but not bad for public schools. Plenty of kids sign scholarships from metro schools. Look at CR, PC, Hillsboro, and EN to name schools that put kids in college. Overton still has kids that get signed each year too. As far as bringing everyone together for a program in metro.....thats the tough part especially at a school as diverse as Overton. Can it happen, yes but it will take the right coach to keep kids at Overton and they have to win now.
  4. VB CB is Ballard. Supposedly he has put in for jobs including Blackman.
  5. Sounds like the new coach put his trust in the wrong person. I'm not connected with Blackman so im looking from outside in. VB sounds like you are looking or hearing from inside out. I think I'll take what Blaze45 stated. His honest opinion without the emotion holds a lot of weight and he shoots it pretty straight. If Blackman was not happy with what Kit was doing then why not start fresh all the way around. Let the new guy in, hire his people, and if it doesnt work start over again. I do find it interesting that supposedly CB applied and obviously didn't get it. I would have thought that his resume would have been better.
  6. So again what has been unprofessional? Specifics? Also where did the coach get a head coaching job? Must not be in TN or it hasnt been announced yet. No idea of new coach. I thought Kit was a good guy and coach but obviously that wasnt enough for some. Be careful what you ask for.
  7. That's a pretty high number. Any idea of what has been unprofessional?
  8. How many of the 7 were certified teachers in the building?
  9. VB can you give details of what has been unprofessional. If not why even start the thread?
  10. Welcome to the T. Pretty typical. New coach pretty much said it in one of his interviews. Said fresh start which is what a lot of new head coaches want. The want their own people.
  11. Well it should be interesting. If sweeper gets it the carousel begins as I believe bleacher mentioned.
  12. MM who would you hire out of the 4 and who do you think they go with?
  13. I think we will know something pretty quickly. Maybe before April 1.
  14. Sounds like he wanted closer to home.
  15. I'm not blind. I just choose not to speak about recruiting that goes on in metro. Most know it goes on and has for some time now. Most also know it will not change. As for if certain coaches in metro are decent, good, etc. Depends on who you ask. My opinion coaches in metro are where they need to be.
  16. Hardtackle why did kids flock to Stratford when Fitzgerald was there? What happened when he left?
  17. I'm not sure that I would agree completely in your player assessment. Somewhat sure but Overton has always contended with others luring kids away. When Coutras was at Overton you had MBA, Ryan, and BA. On top of that the talent in metro was fairly spread out to true zoned kids. With Mullican you had similar circumstances. If memory serves correct in his last year they were put out of the playoffs by Stratford and many thought that was Overtons most talented team since the 81 team. At the start of Anderson's tenure in 94 it was still similar. By his retirement all of the above that you stated he dealt with and his final team went 11-1. If Overton was still winning the talent would not be lured away as easily. Now you may be correct that those days are gone but I think with the right coach they could return. I hope so anyway.
  18. Overton will hire a seasoned coach with experience. Last coach kind of messed things up for any young coach wanting a shot. I think Overton will go with someone already familiar with metro and what it takes to be a head coach in metro. Whomever they go with this coach will need good assistants to help. That is what Coutras, Mullican, and Anderson all had. All also had an offensive and defensive identity.
  19. I wonder what is preventing the TSSAA from revoking Arlington's membership? Anytime you join an organization you are essentially agreeing to said organization's rules and guidelines. I know the TSSAA would not want to do this often but I would think maybe once and make an example out of a school.
  20. Bleacher I'm not sure. It's been open three times now since Anderson left. Morrison wasn't interested the first two times so I doubt he is now but I wish he was. I've heard several names mentioned. One current assistant on staff, one current metro head coach, and two former metro head coaches. I hope Overton gets a good one. Bleacher who would be your top three if you were hiring?
  21. Coach Anderson loved Overton High School and the kids he coached. He enjoyed the camaraderie with his assistants. He gave Overton everything he had all of the time. I know he had mixed feelings stepping away when he did and I know there will always be a part of him that misses the game. There are coaches out there I am sure could get Overton back on track. One name I always mention is Coach Morrison. I have a ton of respect for him and think he would be a great choice just not sure he would want it. I know there is an assistant there now that really wants it. One thing for sure is that Overton will have options. Bleacher I agree about opening it completely up and not setting limitations. And hardtackle I agree it takes a special coach to coach in metro. Its not for everyone and not just anyone will be successful regardless of past success. One thing that could hinder the search and cause some outside of metro to stay away is all of the restrictions currently in place. It's really putting teams in a tough spot. It will be interesting to see how things shake out. Bleacher if I'm Overton I do make that phone call to Anderson and if he is not interested maybe he would at least be on the interview panel to give some insight. Good luck to the bobcats.
  22. Rockvale's principal is a good man and administrator. He was respected enough to be a finalist for the DOS position. He also knows athletics. He was a coach himself and has been around athletics his entire life. He hired who was in his opinion the best option to lead the football program. Was there a collegiate connection, yes. But don't take away from the coach and his credentials. The principal also made some other good hires. The girls basketball coach was a great hire. The boys soccer coach (teacher of the Year this year) was another great hire to name two. The boys basketball coach was well respected in metro and was in a tough situation at HF. I do know of one other coach that applied that I think was the better choice but my opinion means nothing to Rockvale. Maybe Givens was a better fit. I'm sure they are buddies now but they were acquaintances before working together.
  23. Old dad I believe Aydelott is retired now. He was a good coach. He might not have been what Riverdale fans wanted but would Riverdale had been happy with anyone after Rankin? Maybe Crawford I guess or im sure you would have loved Britton but anyone after Rankin would have dropped off some.
  24. Lots of good coaches coming up on this list. Lots of good coaches that do not have the accolades as some due to where they coach and the talent they have to work with. Interesting read though.
  25. I know of Cowan and Britton. Both very good people and coaches. Matthews and Garner I do not know of. Being the best/greatest same thing to me. And if I'm being that guy because I point out the flaw in your statement with you claiming Riverdale produced Crawford and Maynord when it is not so, okay I guess I'm that guy. Now if you were to say that Rankins coaching tree is one of the best that would be a much more difficult argument to go against. Of course he started at somewhere other than Riverdale! Riverdale had a great run. One that would be very difficult to accomplish again in Rutherford County. Oakland under Creasy is off to a good start but still years to go before what I would call a dynasty like Riverdale.
