  1. Agreed. Brentwood wins big with Crawford calling off the dogs in the third quarter.
  2. Hard to tell in this one. Blackman has beaten two awful teams while Smyrna is already battle tested by beating two really good teams. I think this is the difference here. I'll say Smyrna wins 28-27.
  3. Stratford gave Overton a scare tonight in the first half. Stratford's QB and WR #1 are the real deal. The QB is a solid athlete and the receiver is tall and physical. Overton came out flat but turned it on in the second half. Horrible field position helped Stratford out tremendously. Both came on kickoffs. On the first kickoff Overton fumbled setting up Stratford on about the thirty. Later in the game Overton kicked off and Stratford set up a nice return which was aided by a late hit so tack on fifteen more yards. Stratford ended up getting the ball once again on about the thirty. I think it was 22-18 at the half. Overton finally woke up and #7 pounded the ball with #5 also having some huge plays. Stratford is going to win some games this year. They just couldnt keep up tonight.
  4. I think you are right about HL but we both could be wrong. They would have played a wild card team though so they may have won. I just cant remember. Who is on the HHS staff now and where are the guys that left?
  5. Hillsboro made the playoffs because of a messed up playoff system. Overton did better than Hillsboro last year for one. I would say McGavock, HuntersLane, and Pearl Cohn all did better than the burros. Again, Hillsboro benefitted from a messed up playoff system. Overton got beat by Franklin in round one so none. I dont doubt that there are players there and in fact I would agree. However Hillsboro's run of dominance is over. Hillsboro has to find a way to start winning again. One way would have been to keep Coach K and Fite around. Those two could have really helped out.
  6. Those two were my thoughts if he had said high school head coaches!
  7. I would say that nod would go to Jeff Fisher.
  8. I think there are multiple rules here. One is that a student can take a course that Hillsboro for example offers that the zoned school does not. Also, if a school is high priority for NCLB then the parent can request for the student to attend another school. I wont argue with your statements regarding HHS's run. They did an excellent job over that time frame. The only other school I can think of is Overton in the late 70's early 80's with Coutras. I am sure that there may be others but you would probably have to go back a long way. Also, I understand that HHS has been competing with Williamson Co. but they could have opted to go with the other Metro schools here. In all other sports, with the exception of football, the competition would have been pretty equal in my opinion. To me, this decision was about money. I will not deny the fact that the Williamson Co. gates are much more lucrative. I think it was Dad that said the competition makes athletes better. I would agree in most cases, not Metro. I think in Metro its fifty fifty. Some will get better when the times get tough while the same amount will quit. Kids want to play with winners and most want that immediate reward. Right now HHS isnt getting the immediate reward of playing a tough schedule with Williamson Co. Again, just my opinions!
  9. Agree! What is old NCS doing this year? Your old team could sure use you right now.
  10. You and DAD56 were two of the classier posters for HHS. Others seem to bash the other Metro programs. All I was saying is that now the times have changed and HHS is in a rough cycle. In order to get back to being competitive its simple......win. You all had your run because kids saw you all win and wanted to be a part of it. Now that you are losing the kids want to go elsewhere. I have seen in my area where kids want to go to CR now. I dont think that will last long though because they arent winning. Hillsboro also made a poor judgement in going with the Williamson County Schools. That was a decision made all about money and not what was best for the kids. Just my opinions.
  11. For several years many Hillsboro fans trashed the other Metro schools. Hillsboro fans would talk of dominance while other people said the cycle is coming back around. Well the cycle is back around. How does it feel when the tables have turned and now you all are searching for answers on how to just be competitive. I like the school and the coaches but some of your fans are getting a taste of their own medicine.
  12. If you look at the scrimmages both played Overton. While the starters were in in both games Overton beat Brentwood 14-7 or something close like that and they tied Smyrna 3-3. I suspect a good defensive battle here. Smyrna probably has the better players. Brentwood has the better coaching staff. I'll say this one is close from start to finish with Brentwood winning 14-10.
  13. Overton started their season with a big neighborhood win against Father Ryan. For Overton the defense bent several times but never broke. Overton made several big plays including a couple of huge sacks late in the game in critical situations. The offense struggled early but came around in the second half. Overton scored on an option play to #5 down the sideline for about fifty yards. #5 just blew past the Ryan defenders making them look like they were standing still. Overton also connected on a huge pass play late in the game to get out of deep in their own territory to about the forty of Father Ryan. For Father Ryan their defense was strong most of the game only giving up a couple of big plays in the second half. Ryan got on the board early due to awful punts from Overton. This led to great field position but Ryan couldnt capitalize only getting a field goal. In the second half Ryan's full back looked really good as it took several Overton defenders to get him down. Late in the game Ryan tried passing more as the clock was running down. They hit a nice fifteen maybe twenty yard pass but couldnt do much after that. The QB was sacked twice. One was the starter and one was a backup due to injury. Ryan fans how is the QB that went down near the sidelines? Ryan's punter and kicker are really good. Each kickoff went into the endzone the last going deep into the endzone. Ryan's punter had to have averaged at least forty yards if not more. He did an excellent job. Overall good hard fought first contest for both teams. I really like that this neighborhood rivalry has started back up. I hope these two teams can keep it going next year.
  14. From La Vergne I would go to Smyrna, Riverdale, Brentwood, or Overton for publics. Smyrna would be your closest, Riverdale is a good atmosphere, Brentwood has good atmosphere and coaching, and Overton has a pretty good team this year and good coaching.
  15. Got to love parents. What if the coaches said hey we're pretty good. I just wish our parents could produce better athletes. Just support your team man.
  16. MBA wears down that speed and sneaks away with a 24-20 win. If PC has 8-10 potential D1 athletes then MBA has about 50 potential D1 athletes. Potential being a term very open to one's own interpretation.
  17. The list can go on and on. To name a few: bands playing at the wrong time, band parents who get up and leave at half time thinking that the "band" game is over, parents who think they know everything and yell at the coaches, parents who do not watch their little kids who are running everywhere and could hurt themselves, the occasional streaker, the smell of the grill, the smoke from the grill that seems to drift to the fifty yard line and linger, loud obnoxious play by play announcers, etc... The worst to me is parents/fans that think they know everything and yell at the players and coaches. You never know who you may be sitting by and who you may be hurting. Parents want their kids to do well and families of coaches are there to support there dads, husbands, and sons. The worst thing and most distracting is hearing some loud mouth talk trash about someone you care about.
  18. SEC I dont hate the warriors at all. Just like the bears. I think you all will be tough but you are in the toughest district in the state in my opinion. There are bound to be some close games ahead for the warriors. Ron plays ball control with the wing-t so if you all get down early it may be tougher to come back. Good luck to the warriors this year except in this game!
  19. Riverdale will be pretty good this year. I think you all will be tested several times and several close games that could go either way. You all have a lot of depth all around and that is always a plus. Antioch had a rough scrimmage schedule but thats a good thing for the season. I wont predict anything but Im pulling for an upset here.
  20. When did you see Antioch play to base that off of?
  21. 3-3 with starters should be added. Smyrna had much more depth and the 2's and 3's scored twice on Overton's 2's and 3's. Smyrna moved the ball well but had some fumbleitis due to some big hits from Overton. Overton also moved the ball and had a couple shots to score but the QB's had fumbleitis of their own. The two teams starters were very evenly matched. Smyrna did do a good job in the first half with the run defense up the middle. The option seemed to give Smyrna a little trouble and the pass defense. #8 from Smyrna looked pretty good running the ball on the 2's and 3's of Overton. He has some speed. Overall I would say both teams were physical and pretty evenly matched. The final score of 17-3 does not show how close it really was.
  22. Lost---You still havent said who is supposedly quiting, why they are quiting, etc. What should the coaches be doing that they are supposedly not doing? You also still havent said how Riverdale did before Rankin? You always say how Riverdale has so many athletes. How come Riverdale hasnt won boys basketball, boys wrestling, boys track, boys soccer, and baseball championships more often? I know baseball has been solid but how about all of the other sports? Those athletes should be winning all the other sports since they arent winning football right? Riverdale once had the cream of the crop in athletes and coaching. It was a great mix. Add in the growing areas of Blackman and Siegel and the athletes were spread out. Rankin saw it and left. Coach A has developed the players around his system and last year you went to the Semi-finals. Pretty darn good if you ask me. I know a lot of teams that would have loved to have been there. Who in your opinion would do a good job since you obviously dont think coach A is?
  23. Having an offensive line that was '6' deep was ONE of the reasons the 2004 team was great. By having a roster of 100+ at the beginning of the FALL (not the summer) helped in that we had the personnel to allow for us to practice against any type of offense/defense we would see. It also helped in that we usually had 12 RB's that ALL knew the plays. Yes, now we have three of four that do, but what do we have when they get tired? While 'little' teams are the norm for Metro, Coaches outside of it usually know how to both coach and control/discipline a larger team. You do NOT run off potentially good players because you do not know what to do with them. Even the equipment/water girls are IMPORTANT and part of the TEAM! Coaches in Metro know how to do that as well. I still cant figure out your beef with Metro. As for players being ran off......I highly doubt it is the coaching staff that is running off anyone. More than likely it is players not wanting to work their butts off in the hot summer months. Things have changed quite a bit since Rankin's first several years at Riverdale. During Riverdale's most productive years Rutherford County only had four main schools: Riverdale, Oakland, Smyrna, and La Vergne. Riverdale and Oakland were able to pretty much dominate the other two. Since that time Blackman and Siegel opened up in Murfreesboro and the La Vergne and Smyrna area quickly grew adding more players and more depth. It was only a matter of time before Riverdale's run of dominance ended. Add to that the fact that Eagleville started their own team and that took away a few more players from Riverdale. I am sure that there are athletes still in the building and that Riverdale could still suit up 100+ players. Heck many of the 6A teams theoretically could do that. However, a lot of kids now days are spoiled. They dont want to work for anything and instead expect those in charge to just hand over whatever it is that they want at the moment. Times have changed. As for right now you have Coach A as the head coach. Yes he came from Metro but now he is a Riverdale coach. You should support the team that you pull for as well as the coaching staff that is in charge of that team. Who cares where he came from he is there now and he did very well last year. It always takes time to build your team around your system. Look at Rankin. It took him a little while to build Riverdale into a powerhouse. How did you all do before Rankin? You have your right to your opinion and I respect that. However, there is no need to continually knock metro. I can assure you that there are several coaches in metro that are just as good as your rutherford county coaches. They may not have the record that some of the rutherford coaches have but they work just as hard, know just as much, and do the best that they can just like all of your coaches do.
  24. What about the young coach at JFK. I think it is time for him to make the jump. I know a little bit about the middle school coaches. I would say Wigginton from JT Moore and Fitzgerald from Smithson Craighead Academy (formerly of PC) could make that jump from Middle School to High School to be head coach. Wigginton was offered AHS last time it was open and Maurice was the head coach at PC. The guy at JFK, dont think he wants all the headaches you get from being a HS head coach. How about Pigue taking head job, get Elrod, you, and convince Moonwink to come out of retirement. You'll have to allow him to play golf on the weekends though and go see his kids karate stuff too!
