Very unlikely as there are 9 regions total in 2A, which puts 5-2A squarely in the middle. If all 5 wildcard teams were from Regions 1 through 4, that would push one team from Region 4 over to the west. Possible but I would not want to bet my 401K on it. (Actually after this week on Wall Street, maybe that would be a better option ) /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

CPA is staying DI DCA, FRA are moving
-
Nashville Christian would be 2A in Football playing schools very similar to who they play now. I have no idea which way they might go but they would probably be better staying put in DI rather than having to compete against much larger privates like DCA, FRA, USJ etc.

Bought mine at Costco.com.

I bought a Garmin last Feb and love it and find it to be very accurate an reliable. I changed the voice to an Australian Girl who I call Sheila. My brother in law has a Tom Tom and personally I found it much harder to use than the Garmin

From my experience, most of the kids who work during the summer are typically not involved in athletics. As has been stated, they can often get a better hourly rate elsewhere. How the money is handled is also important. The student who works must be given a paycheck which is of course reported to IRS. I know that at our school we simply don't transfer hours worked to a reduction in tuition. A check is issued to the student and if he/she wishes to spend that on themselves that is their choice. I am sure in that case there may be some grief at home (LOL). It is the same situation as if they worked at McDonalds for the Summer. This is the way it should be since the student did the work and the payment has to be paid to him/her and counted as taxable income As most schools have a full maintenance staff, the number of jobs is not large for the summer.

First, I was made aware today that we do have a very small budget set aside for need based financial aid which would be less than 1% of our annual tuition. I don't know if that is being used or not currently so I cannot give any further insight there. Remember also it is a K thru 12 school so the high school portion could be 1/3%. I am not sure why you think it is so unfair. A student is being given an opportunity to attend a school that they would not be able to afford otherwise. As long as they are made aware of the restrictions beforehand they have made the choice. Athletics is not top on everybody's list so they may not feel it to be a major issue. Also remember it does not lock them out of athletics completely, they are allowed to play JV and can certainly come out and practice everyday. If they turn out to be great athletes, they can transfer to a Public or try and get Financial Aid at another Private with no restrictions since they would never have played in any games. Let me ask you a question on fairness. Is it fair for the parents of a student to be paying full tuition and then see a percentage of that tuition payment be redirected to a fund to offer aid to another student who may end up stealing his place on the team? The reality of the situation is the fact that students who hold athletic promise or want to play sports will look elsewhere if they also want aid.

Thanks. I did not pay much attention to 2A when the list came out and did not notice that FRA would be in that classification. Their football program has struggled over the last few years but under the guidance of David Pack (ex Ensworth, CPA and BA) I anticipate they will become much better in the next season or two. I don't know if they are making the jump to DII or not, but this would make it very tempting for them to stay.
-
This will not be available for a few more weeks yet. The reclassification depends upon the latest enrollment figures and also on which Private Schools opt to move to DII. At that point the Districts will be set, however until that point the TSSAA do not know which schools will be moved either up or down a classification. If most Privates move to DII, then that would leave more slots in 3a, so I expect some schools at the higher end of 2a will find themselves moved up.

I probably did not make it clear. Salama now have their own institute so athletic participation is not an issue as the students do not attend our school. Salama has been around a while and as far as I am aware Christ Presbyterian Church (and other churches in Nashville) have helped Salama establish themselves to the point where they are now. I am a teacher in the high school so I was not involved in any of the decision making process to stay in D1. The easiest route for sure would have been to move to DII Small Division. We are now going to be with Stratford, Lipscomb, Pearl Cohn etc all of which are considerably larger than we are so we are not going to be dominating anybody. Athletics was not the major driver in the decision, we are a part of the Greater Nashville Community and as such want to preserve that in all areas, including athletics. As for need based financial aid, I am honestly not aware of any students who fall in that category at the current time.
-
As far as I am aware, there is little to no financial aid offered. I know in the past we have offered assistance to "Salama" which was for inner city students. The thrust of Salama was more for academics, leadership and the arts, so CPA was a good fit as our Fine Arts program is really excellent. Salama now have their own institute which is partly supported by Christ Presbyterian Church. We are a relatively new school and don't have a lot of endowments to even offer aid. We hope to keep tuition at a level that does not push it out of range for regular families. Of course if financial aid was offered, the student would be ineligible to play competitive sports.
-
After a lot of review of our mission statement and school purpose, CPA has decided to stay in D1.
-
Good outline of the situation. One thing that I noticed from your post is the fact that Publics on the edge at the moment are more likely to be shifted upward. Most of the current D1 privates who are considering the move will be in the new 3A as a result of the multiplier. If they opt for DII, that leaves a deficit of possibly 10-20 3A teams which means some Publics who are initially in 2A will be moved upwards to 3A. There will be several very unhappy campers at that point.

I'm forming a new political party

You don't get my vote unless you introduce the British System of driving on the left hand side. I recognize that it would be a major change so we could do it in phases. The first year just trucks and buses would be required to switch. -
One small correction for 1997 FRA beat CPA in the regular season by a score of 23-14. The score of CPA 14 FRA 10 was in the playoffs on the hill. CPA won it with seconds remaining with a Hunter Daniel Touchdown. The 1997 regular season win by FRA was the last time that CPA lost to FRA , although it came real close in the 2000 season in the dying seconds with a failed field goal attempt.
-
It was early 90's when CPA started Football, the earliest season I can find is 1993 when they went 2-8 beating only Nashville Christian and TPS. I am not sure if the program started a year or two before that though.

Global Warming ?
OnlineLC replied to VolunteerGeneral's topic in Politics, National Issues, & Controversy
I agree that debate should happen. I am not on either side of the fence on this issue at the moment. I think it would be reckless to either ignore our impacts on our climate and also equally reckless to go into a tailspin of worry about it. Though I am now a teacher, I have been in Research most of my career, and science is not as easy to nail down as we might think. I have experienced situations where the "obvious" was not the main cause for something happening and found that some piece of data that seemed totally insignificant unlocked the whole thing. The article comes from a forum of the American Physical Society called Physics and Society. It is similar to CoachT in that it expresses views by some of its members. The articles have not undergone rigorous peer review. It's a bit like a PhD thesis, you can have your views but nothing will be awarded until you have successfully defended it and convinced a panel of Professors that you are correct. Hopefully debate will happen and papers from both sides of the argument will be scrutinized in great detail. A new position may or may not be developed. Of course the position may still be wrong since the earth and it's climate is an incredibly complex system. -

You need to read all the way to the bottom. The view on the link is not endorsed by the American Physical Society. The view has not been changed. Here is the web page of the American Physical Society. http://www.aps.org/ APS Climate Change Statement APS Position Remains Unchanged The American Physical Society reaffirms the following position on climate change, adopted by its governing body, the APS Council, on November 18, 2007: "Emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities are changing the atmosphere in ways that affect the Earth's climate." An article at odds with this statement recently appeared in an online newsletter of the APS Forum on Physics and Society, one of 39 units of APS. The header of this newsletter carries the statement that "Opinions expressed are those of the authors alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of the APS or of the Forum." This newsletter is not a journal of the APS and it is not peer reviewed. -

Solomon, I think the US may be OK but I cannot really see them going beyond the Quarter Finals based upon what I have seen this year. The US played us (England) a month or two ago and to be honest England beat them with relative ease. This is an England squad that did not even make it to Euro 2008 so there is a long way to go. Looking at upcoming talent, I would say the dominant teams for the 2010 World Cup will be Argentina, Spain Germany and Portugal. That being said, it all depends upon the groupings and how teams perform on the day. There are no longer huge differences between many of the teams and predictions are often difficult. Brazil are struggling a little at the moment but I would not be willing to count them out just yet. Same with Italy and France.

6/26 Spain 3 Russia 0 Again I was really impressed by Spain. They play very creative attack minded soccer and their defense is very solid as well and basically shut down Russia all night. Even when they have a lead, they do not change their style of play by going into a total defensive mindset. Russia and their speed of attack have been a problem for all other teams in this tournament, but if memory serves me correctly, Spain shut Russia down somuch that they may only have had one or two shots actually on target. The Sunday game between Germany and Spain will be a thriller and undoubtedly brings the best two teams in the tournament together for the final. If Germany play like they did against Turkey yesterday, Spain will win. If both Spain and Germany are on top form, it may be way too close to call.
-
I was really glad to see Spain win this one as I felt they were by far the better team. Italy play great defense but unfortunately like all Italian soccer games it becomes pretty boring. I was quite intrigued to watch Italy in their tactics. They always crowded out any Spanish attacks and left no room to make a play. The funny thing was the fact that when they came out on offense they always fed the ball into tight situations rather than look for the wide open spaces or switch the field. One huge problem I have noticed with this tournament is the tendencany for players to go down writhing in agony whenever they get beat on a tackle. This forces the team that won the ball to kill their own momentum and kick it out of play while the injury is tended to. The player then quickly gets up and has undergone a miraculous healing. It may sound mean but we may need a ruling that unless the ref deems the injury to be really serious, play should go on. My predictions for the semis Germany 3 Turkey 0 Spain 2 Russia 1 Germany will then go and beat Spain in the final.

I really enjoyed the Russia vs Netherlands game today. I do admire the Russian team approach as they are very attack focused. Holland had some good moments but all in all, the result was a fair one. It also makes me feel a little better since England did not make it to the tournament as a result of Russia being in our qualifying group. So far non of the first round winners have won. I think it is possible that Italy may beat Spain tomorrow to make it 4 in a row for the 2nd place teams.
