  1. Sasquatch: Not "everybody" is talking about Alcoa-GP. In fact, I think it was someone else who brought it up. (See gold11's post on p. 4) Catback: You have no idea what the circumstances are regarding the young man rumored to not being eligible for D-1, so I think you might ought to keep those rumors to yourself. MCwrestler: Good thing we don't have to go back to the hills next year; I'd have to recommend you stay home! Or, I'd have to be your bodyguard!!! Sorry to hear it wasn't a clean game. I had hoped it would've been. I'm really disappointed to hear that Wartburg had its share of penalties; they definitely didn't play Alcoa that way. I guess they figured they had to play that way if OS was going to play that way. Congratz to OS, and I'm really sorry Wartburg didn't get a win this year. Time for both teams to regroup and try to get something going next year.
  2. I agree. I think Milan is really ticked and has something to prove.
  3. 1st Round: Sweetwater Loudon CAK Alcoa Boyd-Buchanan Smith Co. Tyner Westmoreland Goodpasture Lewis Co. CPA Camden Humboldt Westview Milan B. T. Washington 2nd Round: Loudon Alcoa Boyd-Buchanan Tyner Goodpasture CPA Humboldt Milan 3rd Round: Alcoa Tyner CPA Milan Championship: Alcoa 35 Milan 28
  4. Glad to hear it! I wouldn't expect any team to come to Goddard Field and just lay down and let Alcoa run all over them! And, you're right, crazier stuff has happened. However, I don't think Alcoa will overlook anyone; I think Rankin has enough experience to know better than that. I think they'll play every game as if it's the state championship. That being said, it is now playoff time. It's time to play hard, because it may be the seniors' last time on the field as high school young men. Alcoa will play their hardest, and I wouldn't expect any less from their opponents! Good luck on Friday. Hope it's a clean game with no injuries on either side. GO TORNADOES!
  5. I haven't seen Milan play, but I know they have a history of good football teams. I knew the ineligible player incident was going to give them some great motivation. About the Fulton-Alcoa game: From what I understand (I missed that game due to business travel) Alcoa was playing very conservatively. It was the 3rd game of the season, and, with a new coach and new starting qb, Rankin was holding Cobb back some, letting him get his confidence up. If you saw Alcoa play today, I don't think you'd see the same team. Of course, the same may be said for Fulton as well, and any other team in the playoffs. I'd say everybody better watch out for Milan, 'cause they're coming for the trip to the 'Boro!
  6. Talk about beating a dead horse! It's a new year, new team, and AHS has a new coach. Let's get on with it!
  7. Just a question (so nobody get their panties in wad!): I thought GP doesn't purposely run up the score on anybody (as said in a previous post)? If there were that many personal fouls, wouldn't it have been better to let the personal fouls rake up until someone was ejected from the game???
  8. Okay, I'll bite: Alcoa: 411 Opponents: 118 That's including games against #1 4A (and #23-I think-in the good ole USA) Maryville and #1 Div. 2 McCallie, as well as #5 3A Fulton, plus Loudon, CAK, and Sweetwater. Hmmm....now, who did G-P play??? Oh, yeah! 1A Midway (6-3 record), 1A Greenback (1-9 record), and 3A Pigeon Forge (0-9).
  9. Where's the love? You must think I'm someone else. I don't believe I"ve ever done anything to you or said anything that should offend you like I obviously have. I think I apologized before for offending you. I do wish G-P would schedule Alcoa so we'd have another 2A game. Sorry if that offends you.
  10. Congratz to G-P for beating a 1A team with a 6-3 record! I don't think we'll be seeing you in Round 3, but if I'm wrong, we'll welcome G-P back to Goddard Field!
  11. I didn't believe the score, but, hey, not to worry! IF Alcoa meets G-P in the playoffs, they'll be ready to take care of business! Sure do wish they'd step up and schedule Alcoa in the regular season. Oh, congratz to G-P for beating a 1A school with a 6-3 record!
  12. We appreciate BTW stepping up and driving all the way to Alcoa to play. I loved seeing their players having a good time pregame during our chant (as well as theirs)! Does BTW have a band? If so, I think a lot of Alcoa fans would've loved for them to have been here. Hope they have a safe trip home.
  13. "sticks & stones", little man. How do you know OS has gotten a lot worse? I didn't say anything bad about GP, just stated the facts and my opinion (as has everybody else on here). Sorry you took it so personal. You didn't answer my question: Why doesn't GP step up and schedule Alcoa? We're not that far away. I was actually surprised we didn't have GP on our schedule last year after the county schools dropped us.
  14. GP won't have the chance to play Alcoa this year...Sweetwater or CAK will take care of them the 1st round. Look at the scores from the Oliver Springs games: GP over OS: 28-7 Sweetwater over OS: 41-0 CAK over OS: 29-7 CAK & GP may be a good matchup, but it's goodbye to them from there. Hey, I think we're looking for a game to pick up for next year...why doesn't GP step up and offer to play Alcoa???
  15. I didn't see mcwrestler whining...just stating facts. I don't believe jacketsfan13 is an Alcoa fan, either. jacketsfan: Alcoa isn't #1 in the state...yet. GO WARTBURG!!!!
  16. Oops! My bad! I went back and re-read...guess you're right. Anyway, time to quit living in the past, FBEmeritus... different year, different team, different coach. Maybe just jealous Murvul couldn't put up that many on an opponent without trying in the playoffs.
  17. It's a new week!!!! Predictions on the BT Washington vs. Alcoa game to be played on Thursday at Alcoa. What does everybody know about BTWHS (besides that they're undefeated)? How are the Memphis-area 2A teams?
  18. Gosh, I didn't realize you went to OS when Murvul was playing at Halls. If you had, you would've seen our so-called "playmakers" (I hate that term) in sweats after halftime. You would've seen a mix of O-line out there to give the younger boys protection so they could gain experience. You would've known that Rankin told some of the boys (again, our "playmakers") to go ahead and put on sweats because they were done for the night. You would've seen every kid on the bench out there playing, giving it their all. If you were familiar with the kids from Alcoa, you'd know that some of the 1st string offense also plays 2nd string defense, and vice versa. According to "The Daily Times": "Very few of the Tornadoes' starters saw action in the second half, but that had little effect on the scoring. Backup quarterback Robert Frye rolled out and found Andrew Mitchell from the 17-yard line on Alcoa's first drive after the break. Jeff Dearmond did the last bit of damage, scoring on a 10-yard run to make it 62-0 before the Tornadoes emptied their bench of any subs." Those names sound familiar??? That's because they're not our starters. Mitchell and Dearmond are names you may want to remember, though. Along with Cline and Toney (just to name a couple more). Rankin is a first-class, quality coach. Would GQ have put in his 2nd string before the half was over, 2 games before the playoffs???? I doubt it, and we all know he's a quality, classy coach. Rankin could've had the 2nd string start, and we still would've won by a large margin. Unfortunately, OS is going through some rough times, and, right now, they're just that bad. So, Mr. FBEmeritus, you may want to check all of the facts before you go running off at the mouth about something you don't know a lot about. If you knew it was going to start something, why did you say it??? Maybe you didn't notice this forum is 1-3A, and not 4A. I don't believe you have a dog in this fight. You may want to start your own thread on the 4A forum. I know, I know, you're "concerned" about all BC teams (yeah, right!). Back to the subject: It's unfortunate that there are one-sided scores, but teams have to play each other in their region. Those games aren't very fun to watch, but it is exciting to watch the future of your school's football program out there on the field. I would certainly hope that no coach would purposely run up the score, but I also understand that this happens because the teams are so unmatched. I completely agree with duckman: "Simply put, you can't tell the younger kids to go out there and choke!!!!!! They want to do well as much as anyone else. And, they have worked just as hard for their chance to play."
  19. Finally, an explanation! Thank you very much for that. Alcoa is a close-knit community in that 1) we're really small, and 2) as I said, my guess is that most of the tuition kids are alumni's children. Sounds like you may be a milan or USJ fan.
  20. Here we go, yet again! What the heck is an "open zone", anyway??? Alcoa is a public school just like any other public school in the state. You can't tell me that there is a public school in the state where there isn't at least 1 student who doesn't live in that school's zone (unless the school is out in the complete boonies or the academics stink). Sounds like the ugly green monster is rearing its head. I would guess that most of the tuition students are kids of alumni. People who are stuck on Alcoa having an "open zone" (whatever that means!) need to get over it. For those who just don't know how our county works, city residents pay city and county taxes. Therefore, those kids can go to that city's school, or one of the county schools without paying tuition. If a student in the county wants to go to maryville or alcoa, they are required to pay tuition because their parents only pay county taxes. There are kids who are in Alcoa's zone who choose to go to a county school, just like there are kids in the county zoned for William Blount who go to Heritage, and vice versa. At Alcoa, if the tuition kid gets into trouble or has too many absences, they're required to find some other form of education. Open zone???? I'd still like somebody to explain that term to me...haven't had anybody yet who could. Guess that's the price to pay for your kids to get a great education in a small, close-knit school.
  21. Oh, PUH-LEEZ!!! CAK won't have any trouble with Wartburg, bless their hearts! The boys from the burg won't lay down and die, they'll give it their all, but they'll come up way short.
  22. Would've made more sense if they had only been playing Toto music. I was never asked about 80s music in my undergrad or grad programs. And, if you have to explain it, well, that should tell you something. After all, that music was popular before those kids were even born. I still say it was a really good show until the very end...they need to cut the very last part of the show out. It really hurt my ears.
  23. Now, don't jump all over FBEmeritus. He can't help it if he's a transplant from somewhere who thinks MHS is the greatest school in the whole world. He does have some good posts, which are negated because he seldom is able to post without getting a dig in there somewhere about Alcoa. Don't know why...don't know if he can't take the fact that there is another great school in the BC, or if his kids got beat by AHS, or what his deal is. Maybe his kids got kicked out of AHS, who knows! I have no idea who he is, and I'd like to keep it that way. He has a huge chip on his shoulder when it comes to AHS and has to keep telling everybody how weak 2A is and how wonderful his wonderful Rebels are (blah, blah, blah). You just have to learn to overlook him because he won't stay on MHS threads. You could always put him on the "ignore" list (just a suggestion!). I've thought about it, but I think it's hilarious to read his posts. He sounds like a life-long Rebel fan, but I don't think he gets everything about Alcoa (or 2A as a whole) because he's a transplant (apparently from an area who doesn't have great schools-academics or sports). So, give him a break!
  24. Thanks for your opinions this far. Divepix: Believe me, Alcoa knows that when the 3rd, 4th string goes in, you can't ask those boys to take a knee and ask them to not play. Everybody on the team works too hard all year long to finally get a shot at playing in a game. thekid2000: I believe that if GP (or any team) had the opponent's defense handing them the ball on their own 10-15 yard line time after time, the score could get up to 90 without trying, whether the coach has class or not. Alcoa knows about that, too, and took a lot of heat for a playoff game. I hope I didn't offend any one by asking the question about the region being weak. That definitely was not my intention. I don't know a lot about that region, other than knowing that Goodpasture has had good teams in the past. I was curious to see if the region as a whole (besides GP) was weak, thus making them look better than they are. Alcoa would be the first to say that our region is weak, and the only real competition we've had is playing Maryville, Fulton, and McCallie. I look forward to the CPA-Goodpasture game and finding out the outcome. Good luck!!!
