  1. Oh I'm here. Everyone else was doing enough talking, so I didn't think I needed to add anything else. I will give a little insight, though. I feel like we've played some uninspired ball the last couple of weeks. We're going to have to get over that Friday. Do I think we can win? Absolutely. SP had a little to do with it, but Clay played their worst game of the season, and I felt some bad decisions were made. Watching film, I think Gville can and will pull it out. I also think the boys learned a lesson last year, if they remember it, after seeing Fayetteville beat SP. We are still a young team, but the talent is there, and the youth has experience as many of the juniors are 3 year starters. Everyone knows about the passing game, but we do have a running game, too. Personally, I think it's better than many give credit. Musgrove is a strong runner who will get a lot of serious publicity in the coming years, and the line will only get better. One thing I want to see this week as well is I want to see the seniors step up. The reason being is that with the class of juniors we have, many people have been looking to next year for a few years. I want to see the seniors say "NO, this year!" and to not be content with the quarters while the underclassmen have another chance next year. We only have 3 getting significant playing time right now, but I would like to see them take control. I think they're good enough this year to win, they just have to do it.
  2. If I remember right, these two teams scrimmaged in August, and I believe Smith looked better then, but again, it was only a scrimmage. Smith is a completely different team now as well. I say Smith wins.
  3. Clay's defense is stout for sure. They do have a good passing game, but if Arms is at QB, the running game will be tough to stop.
  4. JB surprised a few by beating Whitwell soundly tonight. They'll travel back to Turney Ford field where Gville beat them previously 48-6. We rested several last night, and I don't know their status this week. If they sit, the game might be a little closer, but I still fully expect a Gville win. They may not have the talent, but I like JB's coaching staff.
  5. Good luck to Watertown. Just got off the phone with a friend of mine from there, and I feel they will handle Marion. I keep seeing things about the job the coaching staff has done this year, and I think the difference from past years is that the shortcomings were made known early in the year as opposed to past years which forced adjustments to be made early, and you're seeing the fruit of that.
  6. This wasn't one of the better games that Gville has played this year, but they rested several guys as well. It was said that Albritton was sacked 4-5 times tonight. I only remember once. Either way, we're moving on to get ready to play JB or Whitwell. As far as SP, they may have more athletes, but that's been the case before, and we won. We just want to get the chance to play.
  7. You mentioned the Huntingdon game, and Red Bank doesn't fall into the headscratcher category. For Fayetteville, the Cornersville game is a big time head scratcher for me. Clay beat Cornersville soundly while City struggled. I know a team can have an off game, but I feel that Mckenzie has been more consistently dominant.
  8. I think Mckenzie has shown they're the team to beat in the West. No disrespect to Peabody or Fayetteville, and all have been good, but Mckenzie seems to have been more consistent this year. They don't have the headscratching scores like the other two. No one else in the West will come close to these 3. In the East, of course I'm going to say Gordonsville. But, I think realistically, there's only 3 teams in the East with a chance; Gville, SP, and Clay. Final Answer: Mckenzie vs. Gordonsville
  9. Nope, never been earholed by the Pirates and not skeerd either. Rooting for the underdog and one's own region. Like I've told others, regardless of the opponent, I'd rather be at home in the 3rd round. That is all.
  10. I'm sure we will see each other. I look forward to it.
  11. This thread will be slow this week. Just trying to keep the post count up and root for the underdog.
  12. Nope, never said Clay would beat you guys. Quit trying to manufacture bulletin board material. I would just rather play at home in the 3rd round instead of driving to SP.
  13. Those boys played hard. I don't want to look too far to next year, but both these teams will be two of the best in the state in 1A next year, as both are light on seniors.
  14. It's time for the playoffs. It looks as though CB has struggled this year, but they're 1 step to where we want to be.
  15. I'll have to go back and look, but in the game last we didn't move the ball well, and a couple of scores came when we got the ball inside the 10. Either way, it's moot now. As far as the QB situation, Adams has done an admirable job, and the coaches have done a good job of putting him in good situations. But, Arms playing QB is what's best for the team. He has a stronger arm, is more of a threat to run, and is a load to bring down. He should be the starter going forward. Again, Adams has done well, but he's still a freshman and he's not Arms. But he has the potential to be better than Arms as a QB in my opinion. He's just not there right now.
  16. How would you like it? Baked or Fried? BTW, great win to you guys, congratulations. I hope you get over the playoff hump.
  17. For the most part, this game went about like I expected. Last year, when we won 20-0, the game was closer than the score. This year, the game wasn't as close as the score. Gordonsville moved it all night, I feel that at minimum, we left 3 scores on the field being inside the 10 those times. I feel it was more on account of our mistakes rather than Clay making plays. Granted Clay made mistakes as well, but if I counted right, they only had 6 first downs all night, and one was on a roughing the kicker on a 4th and 12. They were still held to close to 200 yards, and 135 of that was on 2 plays, one being a long pass at the end for a td where the defender fell. It happens... Clay will be a different and better team as Arms gets his legs under him more, and I feel they'll give SP a pretty good game. I feel we did a good job of keeping the ball from getting into Kerr's hands, and we were missing a 4 year starter at WR/DB. We'll be glad to get him back. I hope to see them again in the 3rd round. That means we're playing at home, and I always enjoy seeing my Clay County peeps. Again, I feel the game should've been around 28-7, however, Clay's grit affected that more than I like.
  18. Everyone's giving their score predictions, so I'll give mine. 27-7 Gville. I feel that Gordonsville is 2-3 tds better than Clay looking at scores and film. HOWEVER.... I know for a fact that Clay Co. will play harder than any team we play. They may not have the most athleticism, speed, or size, but they have the most grit, plain and simple, and that can help make up for any deficiencies. So, with that said, I'll update my score... 21-7 Gville.
  19. It's actually a hard question to answer. I think there are a few position groups that are not as good, simply because we went from playing with dominant seniors to talented underclassmen. As a team, I feel like we might be better, mainly because the large sophomore and junior classes are a year older and more experienced. There are several juniors that started as freshmen, and now they're 3 year starters and have another year to go. But, I also know that as of right now, there are only 3 seniors seeing significant playing time. A lack of numbers in the senior class is a hard obstacle to overcome. Having said all that, honestly, I'm surprised by our record at this point. It is better than what I thought it would be. Offensively, I thought our offensive line would be a very strong aspect of our team. We were coming in with 3 returning starters, and one open spot would be filled by a senior. 2 of those returning starters have been hampered by injuries, so we've been playing 1 senior, 2 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 1 freshman on the O-line, and only one of those started last year, yet they've been getting it done. As always, they can do better, but I've been pleasantly surprised at what they've done thus far. Again, having said all that, I think as a whole we're a little better, however there are a couple of position groups that are not what they were last year. It kind of makes it hard to compare to last year as our strengths are completely different.
