Ask any of the Alcoa team who won. Or even Coach Rankin will tell you. I was at the game myself. It was a battle of two great football teams. Until last year, all I heard was Alcoa is great but will NEVER beat Maryville cause they don't BELIEVE they can. Well that is not the case now. I wasn't for either team. Just went to see a great highschool football game. I got my money's worth and more. Great atmoshere not enough seats (but I guess there was about 5000 people there.) This game was not won by luck or by officials or even by a great call by the coaches. It was won by skill and tallent mostly. Maryville has a great team. They also MAY not lose another game. BUT from the warmups before the game to the end Alcoa appeared to have the superior athletes on the field. Number 2 for them is a beast. He will knock your head off on either side of the ball. Maryville has some good athletes as well, as they should for the size of the school and the tradition. BUT DONT say "there were no losers in this game" I watched the game...and when the clock ran out Maryville LOST. Give those ALCOA boys credit. They did what they did last year. As a 3A power..they BEAT the mighty Red Rebels. SO MARYVILE LOST and Alcoa WON. Aloca LOST for several years prior. Give these young men the right to be the WINNERS of this ballgame!Until next year then the battle continues. I myself will be there again

No upsets in the sectionals Jacques threw the shot 51.11 to win Hunter didn't break 50. Smith threw the disc 152.07 WOWWWWWW

He would have been 3rd in the Section 2 finals. Sammy Seamster from Ooltewah ran a 10.80 and came in second in the 100m. Seamster won the 200m at 21.52. Ooltewah relays 4x100 and 4x200 won. Look for them to be strong next weekend.

From what I have heard, the administration tried very hard to get a high profile coach. They tried to get Coach Monroe, Coach Rankin and Coach Crawford among some other PROVEN head coaches. The point is, it was too late in the season to lure an established head coach away from their current program, unless they happened to catch them in the right situation. Not many would be willing to leave their current programs after already having spring practice to move in this economy and start over. I think Cleveland is lucky to have Coach Slaughter. He is a good coach.I bet it wasn't easy for him to leave Soddy and his players. Better get on the band wagon and support him or this program will continue to go in a different direction.

I remember well that game. I was standing on the sideline when he came off the field. At that time Smith was a soph. 15years old and the Owls were not having a good year, but that is another story. I believe alot of the sophmores on that team grew up alot that year. They remembered the losses that year and who handed it to them that year. That showed that last year when payback was.. well...you know. Jaques made more than one locker room half time speeches last year. And yeah ,I guess players on opposing teams probably don't like his attitude. He is VERY INTENSE. His teamates all respect him and listen to him.Off the field, he is a great role model as well. He gets it done in the classroom too. I had someone last year, from an opposing school, tell me they heard he would be too old to play this year. Jaquez just turned 17 in Jan. He is truly a man among boys physically. He is on the track team and throws the shot and disc. He set the record in the discus at the best of the preps last week. That is just a little something he does in his spare time.This young man will not only "make it" He will shine at TN. He is one of the nicest guys youll meet off the field and truly an animal/freak on the field.
