  1. I agree on the Stats in the paper being a factor, though leaders don't automatically equal BOP. Having said that, it is probably also true that there is probably a BOP bias towards offensive players. A great mid fielder who sets up plays but doesn't score (or even get assists) or a great defensive player might be overlooked. A good topic down the road might be who are those players deserve the recognition, but didn't get it.
  2. When do we find out that Coniglio is ahead so far? BigG, have you seen any recent photos of the big haired boy? I wouldn't have thought it possible, but the hair has gotten even "bigger", plus he's now sporting some chin scruff to go with the big hair.
  3. From my experience, Best of Preps (or any similar kind of recognition) is based on a number of factors: 1. Talent (Most important factor, though every year girls with talent get overlooked) 2. Exposure - Since this is based on people at the paper, they can only work with the names they are familiar with. Teams that get exposure in the paper are more likely to have individuals that get picked. 3. Body of Work - As much as people like to think that how you do in a given year should decide who gets picked for that year, I think it mostly current year, with prior year(s) impacting it. Think of it this way. You start out your freshman year, and most of the time, your talents are not likely to get recognized outside your own team. By your sophomore year, if you have talent and exposure, your name gets known (think Emily Jones winning BOP 2 years ago as a sophomore). By your Junior year, your talent hopefully is know in the local soccer circles, you've managed to show up in some articles about team wins, etc, and you have a good chance to make the list. By your senior year, you’re hopefully firing on all cylinders, and you make the list. Back to question at hand. Two names come to mind that meet the criteria listed above the will probably make the final list: Danielle Ciabattone from Notre Dame and McKenzie Thomas from Baylor are two that I've seen and think will make the list. Others that might make the list -- Chloe Bracket from Baylor and Simone Busby from GPS. I'm sure there are others, but the number of high school games that I've seen this season has been somewhat limited. Now if we want to talk College games or U5 or U8 games....
  4. We're more like Gypsies this year than in the past. To summarize: Practices - Redoubt Regular Season Games: @ Baylor - 4 @ ND - 3 @ Memphis 2 (1 was rained out) @CCS - 1 @Signal Mtn - 1 @GPS - 1 @Bearden - 1 Post Season (so far) Camp Jordan - 3 (on two different fields) Baylor (tonight) Nobody should ever say that ND has an unfair homefield advantage if/when we play at ND. It's as much of an unfamiliar field for ND as the visiting team....
  5. Injury or Illness of a key player or two, would be my guess...
  6. Region Semifinals Winners: Elizabethon Greenville Pigeon Forge CAK Silverdale McMinn Notre Dame CCS CPA Harpeth Page Cascade Dyerburg Westview Madison McNairy Region Finals Greenville CAK Silverdale Notre Dame CPA Page Westview Madison Sectionals: Greenville CAK CCS Notre Dame CPA Harpeth Westview Madison
  7. Livingston Academy played Smith County last night, per Euro. When they played earlier in the season, LA beat Smith 7-1, so I would expect LA won last night.
  8. I believe it is in the TSSAA guidelines that if two teams from the same district make it State, they will be put on opposite sides of the bracket, so that if they advance far enough, they could meet in the finals.
  9. Sequatchie will just have to settle for being able to kick Notre Dame's butt on the football field...
  10. I know 2 years ago when ND went to Bearden, we got spanked 1-5, though it was 1-1 or 1-2 at the half. Last year when Bearden came to ND, we played to a 2-2 tie. I suspect that ND will have to play at the top of their game to come out with a W from Knoxville. Aqua dog's prediction might be close, though it might just be a 1-goal differential. No matter the outcome, it should help ND prepare for the post-season, which is what really matters....
  11. Per Eurosports, the Station Camp game was a pre-season game, which is excluded from a team's record....
  12. I can't believe anybody hasn't mentioned Notre Dame on this thread yet?....
  13. I would agree with that! Very few postings this year! There are some days where there isn't even one new post! With DonC and Chass leaving, as well as Coniglio and Reaction getting a life, things have gotten rather quiet! The only really spirited posts are when we posters lose track of the thread and go off into club soccer land.... I'm still around, but I usually just read and don't post. I often started new threads just to get people posting. In the past, we had threads on Soccer in the News, Alumni playing in College, Best Web Sites, best pictures, etc.
  14. Baylor 2 - Notre Dame 0 Good physical game. I saw slide tackles, fouls, etc.... just like soccer should be played. 1-0 game until the last minute or so. ND, maybe next time...
  15. It was 2005, and they actually met 3 times that year (like most years). CCS won 2-4 in regular season, then ND won the district on PK's, then CCS won the Region on PK's In 2006, ND won the regular season 1-0, then Distict 4-0, (CCS lost to Sweatwater in the Regional Semis, so they didn't meet a 3rd time that year) In 2007, they tied 0-0 in regular season, then ND won the district 1-0 over CCS, then won Regions 3-0. In 2008, ND won regular season's game 2-0, the won District 2-0, then won Region 3-1. Always a very competitive game... and these two teams are likely to meet again...
  16. My week 2 picks: Soddy vs Cleveland.. SD CCS vs GPS.. this is a close one, but I'll go with GPS Walker Valley vs Bradley Central.. no real idea, but I'll go BC GPS vs Brentwood Acdy.. GPS East Ridge vs McMinn Central.. MC Signal Mtn vs Alcoa.. SM
  17. I always felt in my heart I had "height". I just didn't expect others to recognize it ... Of course, if I hand out with Champ, i do start to feel taller...
  18. If ND plays Collierville rather than Houston, I'll change my pick to ND.
  19. What makes this 8-0 score worthy of note is that the school screamed bloody murder on a lopsided score last year.
  20. This discussion reminds me of an ND vs. Centennial game that was perhaps my scarriest moment in 15 years of soccer. On 8/26/06 (I looked it up), ND had been up 2-0, but Centennial had tied it up, and it was hard fought game on both sides. Just before the half, the ND goalie and Anna Fisher of Centennial (now at UTK) both went for a ball. They struck, and Anna went flying up in the air and game down on her head/neck. I thought at the time that she might have broken her neck. An ambulance was immediately summoned, and even drove out on the field (if I remember correctly). Play was stopped, and it never resumed. Everybody on the field and in the stands was stunned. After 5 or 10 minutes, the ref pulled out their yellow card and carded the ND goalie. While it was an unfortunate accident, I didn't believe it deserved a card, and I thought that Anna's dad was a class act as he stopped and spoke to the ND goalie before leaving for the hospital. He told her that he knew it wasn't intentional and that things like this happen in soccer. For me, bottom line, as long as somebody is going for the ball, and it truely was a 50/50 situation, there should be no card. There are plenty times that a card might be appropriate, though, so I'll leave it to the officials at the game to make the call. That somebody was injuried should have no bearing on whether or not a card is appropiate.
  21. 1. Houston (and I hope I'm proven wrong) 2. CCS 3. SD 4. Cleveland 5. GPS 6. Baylor
