  1. A few big games on tap for tonight. Elizabethton plays South Greene at home. Cloudland welcomes North Greene and Hampton and Unaka go at it at Hampton. I wish all ladies good luck and represent their schools well. Elizabethton needs a big game from MP in order to get the W. She has to play like she did in the second half of the game down there. This is a huge game for the Lady Cyclones. If they beat SG and they trip up on someone like we did then we have a tie for first place. Good luck to both teams! GO CYCLONES!!!
  2. I agree with the list. Unicoi and Elizabethton (just like the past three years) will be on top. Both teams return quite a few players that led them last season. Whitson will be just as good this year for UC and Jake Davis will lead EHS like he did last year. West Greene ended last season with a good little run and they only lost a couple players. I look for them to be the darkhorse in the conference. Should be another great year on the diamond. I'm looking forward to it.
  3. You go to places like Chuckey Doak, any other Greene County teams, and Volunteer you have to know that you will get their best shot. And you also have to realize that you will have the calls go against you much of the time. Its jsut the nature of the game down there. But I am sad to hear that UC fell like EHS down there. And I agree with coachh17, I would hate to get CD in round one. And Gardner getting into foul trouble really does hinder UC. They rely on her to do more than just score.
  4. Just to clear things up, I did not say anything bad about any other player. I think there are many players in the seven that would beat out Etown players. All I was saying was that the talent level of the Lady Cyclones (as a whole) is better than any other team's. Nothing against any girl. And another point I tried to make was clarified by someone else. Etown is like UNC's men, if they come with 100% they are tough to beat. And you all are correct. My glasses are tinted orange. Theyre probably more than tinted. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  5. Ive been able to see both teams play at least twice and I agree with what you said. If Hampton can keep CLoudland from running for most of the night then they will probably win. If Cloudland is able to make turnovers and get easy baskets then they better their chances. I think both teams will have spurts where they impose their wil on the other. When the game is over I think Hampton will be on top because of the game being at their place.
  6. Elizabethton is better than any of the other six. Bar none. They have by far the best ball players as a whole. Not saying that the likes of Gardner and Ward and others couldnt play at EHS. But Elizabethton is better as a team than any other. They have the ability to blow any of the other teams out on any given night. As they have against many teams in the recent past. They demolished Hampton, and if I remember correctly Weddle played that game. So when Elizabethton comes to play they WILL blow the other six out. I want to see my Cyclones start doing that. I see flashes of brilliance at almost every game. I can't wait until they play another game at full tilt. And show that they are MUCH better than anyone else. GO CYCLONES!
  7. Elizabethton is a very good team. They can shoot on some nghts and they play good Defense. They also have Pietrowski. But I don't think this EHS team will be able to keep squeeking out wins against lesser teams. If they dont go full throttle the whole game against teams like Happy Valley or Hampton or UC, then those teams will pull the upset. They need to stop letting teams stay in the ball game. Keep their foot on the gas and just absolutely blow teams out! They have the talent and coaching to do that. But for some reason they dont.
  8. Elizabethton had a good week. They played well against Unicoi and South Greene and I think the home court decided both of those games. South Greene will be in for another fight with Etown when they come to our house. Likewise, the LAdy Devils will be looking to avenge their loss to the Cyclones when they go to Erwin. Its not easy to win on the road in the conference, especially between teams of this caliber. So the team that can win on the opposing teams court will probably come in first. GO CYCLONES!!!
  9. Elizabethton is very fortunate that they got this 17 day break from game play. They have been nursing some injuries and a couple sicknesses. Anderson and Jefferson are well on their way back to full health and Pietrowski is getting over being under the weather in time to knock the rust off. I know the layoff could also hurt Etown but I know how hard Dugger practices the girls. They'll be ready. And I would be shocked if they came out rusty against UC. I cant wait! GO CYCLONES!!
  10. I don't see the tenacity that I am used to seeing in EHS. They have prided themselves on good in-your-face defense the past few years (and were very successful). Why, with all the speed you have (Jefferson and Anderson can move really well at posts and their guards are really quick) would you sit back and let the other teams shoot. It is beyond me. Even when EHS went into the man to man against C-D they weren't all up on them. I think the world of Coach Dugger, but what is he thinking? If they come out and start winning he will be rightfully praised. But until then, we can question him. ANd i question his strategy on the court now. Right now, I agree with the rankings. UC #1, Cloudland #2, EHS #3. EHS did win against Cloudland but they were a much different team that day. They lack consistency. Until they gain that much needed consistency, they will not beat teams like Unicoi or S. Greene, they will also be upset by more teams like they were against C-D.
  11. It is impossible to tell how how teams are by just looking at a common opponent. We aren't taking into account the officiating (not saying either game was badly officiated) and we are not taking into account the mindsets of the girls on a particular night. I do, however, think the Lady Devils are probably a better team at the moment. I don't believe either team will beat South Greene. Especially if there happens to be an officiating debacle like is described on here. GO CYCLONES!!
  12. Elizabethton will be pretty young in the back court this year also. I think they will find a couple of girls that can play at the varsity level and do more than just compete. Pietrowski, Jefferson, and Anderson will have to be big for this Cyclone squad to succeed in the early going. If they can play well (especially at first) it will take some pressure off of the young guards and help to season them and build confidence. Overall, I think this Lady Cyclone team has the talent and the coaching to go deep into the playoffs like they have in years past. GO CYCLONES!!
  13. The game was quite a bit closer than what you indicate. Elizabethton matched Greeneville drive for drive until the very end. They just missed two pat's (botched hold/snap and a failed 2-point attempt). And the officials were not THAT bad. They were bad but playing and watching games heere in east tennessee has made me somewhat immune to their incompetence. I do agree with you, barb, that the defensive TD for Greeneville was the turning point. EHS had a lot of the momentum from the end of half #1 and that play gave it all back to the Devils. Good game from both teams. I'm glad I made the trek down and I can't wait to see the rivalry in the regular season again next year /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Good luck to the Devils next week and the weeks after that. Good job Cyclones, The program is finally going in the right direction now /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  14. Night of the big game. An old rivalry renewed. At least one more time. I wish the best or both teams and I hope they stay injury free. I'm glad that Ryan kid's ankle is good cause I know I would hate to miss a game like this. GO CYCLONES!!!
  15. I hope this game is a good one! And I think we will get one. Betsy is quick and I believe they will come with the same intensity that they had against DB and SH. They haven't played in they playoffs in a few years so the team and the town will be pumped. Greeneville, in the end, will be too much for the Cyclones. The Devils will bring a hard-nosed offensive attack and I believe that will prove to be the Cyclones downfall. They are suspect with the run. GHS - 34 EHS - 21
  16. If I was Greeneville I would wanna stay in that region and not move to upper east tn. They should win that region every year ! District 2 AA Chuckey-Doak AAA Cumberland Gap AAA South Greene AAA West Greene AAA Grainger County AAAA Union County AAAA Greeneville AAAA Come on now, I wouldn't leave that district if I was Greenevill. No disrespect to the other teams /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Why wouldn't Greeneville move to Region 1? They still will be the dominant team. They will be better seasoned from playing the likes of Elizabethton, Sullivan East, and Sullivan North. Not the best teams in the area (DB, South, TN High) but they are much better than any of the other Greene County schools. Plus, why wouldn't they want to renew the rivalry with Betsy.
  17. From what I have seen from the stands, and from reading the papers, Hastings would fit in well In Betsy.
  18. It always seems that Betsy plays South well. At least for a while. Remember last year, a bad Betsy team played WELL over their heads for the first twenty minutes. The last 28, not so much. Betsy will match up better against South than they did against THS or North. But I still don't see the Cyclones stopping the run. Especially with 3 D-lineman. Its just not gonna happen. South had an emotional (from what I've seen on here) weekend and will be looking ahead at the Vikes. EHS will jump on them again. But like last year, South will come roaring back. Key for the Cyclones: NO TURNOVERS!!! Key for South: Play all 48 minutes (starters at least the first 36) South - 49 EHS - 28 GO CYCLONES!!!
  19. Elizabethton jumped on North early and coasted the rest of the way. They also made too many mistakes to win that ballgame. If EHS wants a chance at this game, they better come ready to play for ALL 48 Minutes. They also need to find some semblence of a run defense. I love my Cyclones but I don't see it happening. THS - 34 EHS - 21
  20. i hope to see a good game this friday. I believe the team that has the ball last will win. It jsut seems that both team's defenses are suspect at times. Betsy doesn't really have the size to stop a running game like that of North's. However, I dont think North will be able to keep up with the Cyclones speed on the outside. I believe that special teams will play a BIG role in this game. Betsy has come within mere inches of blocking several punts. But when they dont, it doesnt hurt to have a returner like Forbes. I believe he returns at least one kickoff or punt back for six in this game. North would be smart if they kicked it out of bounds every time. Best of luck to both teams. EHS - 41 SNHS - 35
  21. I believe Betsy will come out on top in this one. They are a much more talented team than Central. The only way Central can win is if they can slow the running game and force obvious passing downs. Betsy has struggled on 3rd and Longs for the most part all year. If Central can force turnovers then they have a chance. And everyone needs to remember. The players are still kids, anything can happen under those lights. Remember, Betsy gave South a big scare last year and they werent really good at all. Anything can happen. Prediction: Betsy, 28-14.
  22. I watched the boys play against Va High on wednesday and it seems the line play IS better. It seems they are scheming a little bit more, which will help since they are a little undersized. The QB play is critical. Ryan did really well at times then showed his inexperience at other times. The freshman, Berry I think, will be a player. He will challenge Thomas later in the season and next year for the # 1 job. The running backs will be the workhorses. Carr and Forbes looked stellar and I hope their play continues to improve! Go CYCLONES!!!!!
  23. Great ball game last night. Both teams fought hard and both really showed that they are definitely the top of the conference. The difference last night had to be the Cyclones' refusal to swing with two strikes. They are a good hitting team...when they swing! Nine backwars K's out of twelve total strikeouts. If they would just have put the ball in play, they would have made UC play it and with high schoolers that gives you a chance to win. However, the way UC looked last night, the Devils D would have made the plays most likely. I can't wait for the rematch at Baxter Field! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  24. Big game tomorrow...Unicoi and Elizabethton play at six at Joe O'Brien field. The winner has the inside track to be District Champions! What is everyone's prediction?
  25. I know the scores and such from this opening week but does any team really surprise anyone? Elizabethton trounced HV who jumped on johnson county. Then Betsy showed pretty well against Sullivan South. I have heard a lot about talent and experience in Unicoi but I would like to see some talk on here.
