  1. I didn't really feel like teaching today but here it goes anyway. I made the comparison of the 2004 Hillwood vs. White House game to the upcoming matchup between Alcoa and White House to show a relationship, that's a RELATIONSHIP, something you probably never had. Now, why would I do such a preposterous thing? I mean it is just outrageous. I said that to show that even though White House has played as a heavy underdog doesnt mean the will get the ###### beat out of them, i.e. 2004 Hillwood vs White House game. No where in the previous statement is it said, "Uh well, uh, white house will beat them alcoa folks, because, heck, they beat them boys from hillwood 3 years ago and them two are about the same.." No where. I even said, "...My point; dont count White House out of this game.." So lets review: Relationship: underdog doesnt equal white house loss. example - 2004 hillwood-white house game. There you go little buddy.
  2. If WH does beat Alcoa this year, it will only be by a slim margin (3-7 pts.). Now I dont know what kind of talent Alcoa returns, how many seniors they have, where some of the younger players are going to have to play, etc, etc. But I do know they will be a good team. WH will be ready to play them and they will do the likewise. I think you have the makings of a great game when these two show up to play each other. I definately do NOT think it'll will be a 'blowout'. Ergo, in 2004, a pretty darn good WH team play a pretty good Hillwood team in the quarter-finals of the playoffs. According to many, MANY threads posted right here on coacht, WH was supposed to get beat by a bigger, faster, more physical Hillwood team by at least, AT LEAST 3 touchdowns. The end result? WH rolls on to win 56-28 with 14 of Hillwoods points coming in the 4th quarter against WH 2nd string. My point? Do not count WH out of this game. Matter of a fact, do count them out, because they historically perform better when they are the underdogs. But nevertheless, I dont think it will be even similiar to that game, the score will be alot closer with either team coming out on top. Peace.
  3. Both QBs are exceptional athletes. Greenwade has a bigger build (approx. 6'3" 200), Light is in his 2nd year of playing football ever and he's already vying for the starting QB job! I dont care who you are, that is impressive. Most guys have played since they were 5 or 6 and dont even get a shot at starting until their senior year. I think only positive things come out of this for WH. A little competition for the starting QB spot between two very talented athletes, who also happen to be in the same class, is good for this team! I know both are great kids from personal experience with each of them. I know whoever ends up getting the strting job, the other will be rooting him on. Thats the kinda guys and team WH is and has been. This is only a + for WH.
  4. As I said in previous '3A Championship' threads, gotta keep White House in the mix. Talent, Tradition, and Coaching. Thats what they got. Might be young, but they are good, I'm tellin' you. They can and will compete for the state crown. Someone out of the Knoxville area also; Fulton, Catholic, the usual, etc.. This WH is as good of a team since the '04 bunch that went 13-1, and they were friggin good. Hope everyone is wrapping up a successful preseason and good luck to all the teams as this season starts!
  5. I think you have to keep White House in the mix. They got alot of size, speed, and overall athleticism on that very YOUNG team. Two Soph. QBs who are both highly touted. Three very explosive RBs, all can take it the distance in a heartbeat. A big line, anchored by my personal favorite 3A Mr. Football Lineman, Rodgers Gaines. You have to keep their names in there with all the others, they've been in the playoffs 23 of the past 24 years, with the same coachin staff to boot. That counts for alot in my book. I think you'll see the Middle and East TN regions being represented in this years Championship Game. Now who's representing those regions is anybodies guess.
  6. I thought WH looked like a totally different team today from what they dislayed on Tuesday. Starters played a good, solid 5 series on offense and defense. Other than a couple of miscues, I thought their performance was up to par with where they should be in their young season. The thing is with all WH teams, they always get progressively better as the season comes along. Hendersonville had a good team, probably will finish 7-3, or something around there. As far as being flat Tuesday, believe it or not, it is possible for a 15-18 year to not be 'focused' or 'motivated' to play someone they will never play in their season, most of them probably have no idea what SC is about, etc, etc. Not saying SC is not a good team, they whooped our *ss pretty good the other day. But just because WH has a bad scrimmage doesnt mean they arent going to win a game all season. I think this team will get better and better and better as this season unfolds. You just watch... Because in the end, thats all we can do anyway. The kids decide whether or not they will be as good as they can be. But good performance today, can't wait till they play Beech next Friday. ...And you should've seen Gaines today. He's a force. Just watch 'em.
  7. Yo Baggy, i bet your lunch money that mommy gave you this mornin' that if you and big, fat butt Gaines lined up against each other that big, fat butt Gaines would stomp your mudhole in brother and thats if hes was taking the play off. What a friggin' joke.
  8. WH participates in a 7 on 7 passing league with Trousdale Co. the past few years, or at least since 2004 when they went 13-1. I dont believe they participated this year, although they most definately have the talent to. As far as the summer workouts go, they have a very nice facility over there in WH. I can guarantee you guys they put it to very good use. I know from experience that while the total number of mandatory workouts varies, it is between 20-25 WO a summer. A majority of those workouts are completed in June, then in July they have the same morning workout regime, followed by an evening team practice once a week. On the other days, they have position specific practices (i.e. Lineman practice pass blocking, recievers practice routes with quaterbacks, etc). So to say they have it 'easier' then some of the other schools is ignorant. Luckily for you, I am here to clear that up. Now as far as this thread goes, which was, 'was', about the WH vs. SC scrimmage, I personally thought WH looked hot, slow, flat, tired, etc. and SC looked very good. WH had a couple of miscues with the Center-QB exchange. The defense looked like they were waiting for the ball to come to them. Offensively, I thought SC QB looked pretty good. He's a big kid, kinda reminds me of a slightly thinner white Byron Leftwich. He took off one tiime down the sideline and just KO'd some corner for WH. But as for WH, I thought they have so much potential that it is almost scary to think how good they can be. They just didnt show it the other day. The coaches will fix that. A standout player for WH without a question isnt a WR or their QBs, but big ol' 6'6" 320 Rodger Gaines. I think Gaines, suprisingly enough, will make alot bigger impact on offense then he will on defense. He has gotten so much quicker and stronger that he really has the potential to play in a D1 school. When they pull him around on those counter plays, I mean watch out buddy, cause someones gettin it. I have specificly watched him the last 2 scrimmages, both DL & SC, and I think I've counted over 15+ pancake blocks, with a majority of them coming on fast-moving linebackers. Another thing that impressed me was his pass-blocking... but I'm ramblin here anywho. Back to the scrimmage... I think that the heat played a very big factor in this scrimmage for both teams. I noticed many players having to come out of the scrimmage for cramps and it had only been a couple series in. They played at about 5 and it was no lie around the 100 degree mark. I think given the circumstances, they both faired well... Oh, and watch out for Big Gaines this Fri. Manny
  9. It'' be a game worth watching for both sides, how about that? These two have never played each other, so to compare how'd they do by comparing teams of past is not fair for these teams, so lets go with the same and respectable bet that its gonna be a good game. BenStiller whatever your name is, just keep your mouth shut, nobody likes a trash talker, especially one who shows no regard for the other team. Peace!
  10. Barrett has a fractured D5 vertebrae. He has actually had this injury for some time now. And they just dicovered it this past week. He is actually out due to a pretty bad concussion. But i'm not sure on everybody else. Good luck though this Friday
  11. The Blue Devils are losing some key players here lately, so we'll see how they can handle the adversity...
  12. Well, I think that it will be closer at the start of the game and then I think WH will run away with it. West is out, so it'll be interesting to see how they respond to that. But other than that, Blue Devils will take this one. WH - 35 MC - 10
  13. Somebody should really cool me off, cause i am just too hot. In the famous word of Dubya Bush, "Numbers. I don't like 'em. There too many of 'em; they make my head hurt..." I told ya people, listen to tha managa... I just threw the Dubya thing in there cause I thought it was funny. "How do you like them apples France. That'll teach ya, dont mess with Texas..." hahahaha
  14. I was at the WH-FS game and I thought WH played very well...sure there were some miscues (i.e. balls thrown into the gound, stupid penalties, substitution errors, etc.) but I thought WH pretty much nailed the basics. I thought they tackled well, they ran hard, the line did a decent job of creating some running lanes for West, who by the way had an excellent game, and I thought the QB played to his potential. But however, to beat a good team like Portland, they are going to have to improve on the things they did well and correct the small errors. They will not beat a good, discipline football team until they can do that. My pick: WH-It could go two ways; I think it will be close, I havent seen Portland play, but I believe that we have an edge in the kicking game. Therefore, I think that the final score will be decided by a field goal: WH-17 PO-14 or If the coaches can find a weakness in the Portland defense, which they are very good at doing, and WH can exploit that weakness, I think WH has the talent, yes, talent, to blow this one apart, granted they do all the things I've already mentioned: WH-35 PO-14
  15. I agree also, every team has their strengths and weaknesses, but the common denominator with WH has always been physical play on both sides of the ball, they always are more prepared, and they always, ALWAYS play with heart and emotions. Every year is different though, and this year has to find its identity just like all the other years, but it HAS to do those things first...then they will find their identity.
  16. A truly great team, they know there stuff...what really impressed me is the coaches dedication to get their players scholarship oppurtunities, even to smaller schools. They are still making it a priority to get the players to the next level and I think you will find that not alot of players around here have that kind of chance, not because they are less talented, but just because they don't have coaches who take playing football at the next level very seriously or as seriously as the guys at Hoover do. I know that there are those players (And when I say players, I do mean parents, of course) who feel their son should be starting IN THE NFL next season, but there are a VAST number of players who can continue their football careers at the next level and for lack of a better word, just don't...But great football team, outstanding coaches
  17. I think that all these things that are indeed annoying are the things that makes even going to a game interesting (for the fans, of course). It kinda builds an aura about the game; I mean, you never know, you always have to be on your guard. Your trying to watch a critical 3rd down conversion and at the same time, you got 80,000 5 year old kids screaming like sirens in front of you, you have the ex-head coach sitting right behind you, you seem to be sitting in the section designated for all of the players mothers, all the while, you get the priviledge of listening to an adolescent teenager who just started going into puberty blow into a french horn. All of these things to me make high school football an attractive entertainment venue. Oh, and the hot dogs are pretty good sometimes...and a hot cup of cocoa on those late November games are good too...but if your drinkin' hot cocoa in late November, chances are, you should have alot to be complaining about... LONG LIVE THE HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
  18. You would think that after a season like last year that the Blue Devils would be ready, experienced or not. They returned alot of players, bottom line, Ricky Ladd, no Ricky Ladd, they had guys on the field, getting playing time, and that is what makes you a better football player, from the freshman who hasnt ever played ball in his life to the senior who has started every single game. You do NOT walk onto a field not ready to play. BOTTOM LINE. You owe it to yourself and you owe it to your teammates to be mentally and physically prepared to battle. I believe that saying that a team is too young or too inexperienced is just a cushion for people to fall on when something doesnt go the way they were supposed to. White House should've, and I stress the should've, won that game on paper and on film. But luckily for all of us, they do not play football by crunching numbers and comparing statistics. You win football games with heart, guts, character, and preparation. Apparently, Page had that. White House didnt seem to. But one game doesnt make a season, so luckily for the Devils, they get to play again. And I will bet that they will realize that you can't come to a fight expecting to just waltz on in there and get the game handed to you on a silver platter. These boys need to realize that they are gonna have to battle for everything they get. Thats why they didnt win. Not because the were too young, but because they lacked the desire to win and they underestimated their opponent. These are going to be the keys for them this year: 1) They must prepare to win. 2) They must all share a common goal to win. 3) THEY WILL ALWAYS BE THE UNDERDOG. And they need to play like it. 4) They cannot make excuse for themselves. 5) They must be willing to work. I love White House Football; It represents everything that football should be about; hard work, dedication to your team, and unshakeable pride. But I love the game of football more than I love White House and they need to start playing ball the way it ought to and deserves to be played. Good luck next week guys. Just remember, when things start to get tough out there, you grab that hand of the guy next to you and you look him in the eyes and you tell him, "I want to win this for you, for me, and this team and I would rather DIE on this very field then let my teammates down." Once you do that you will see a totally different football team. See ya Friday. MB
