There's more to it than average, HR's, and RBI's.  Edmonds is a Gold Glove centerfielder, while Floyd and Burrell are below-average DH's trying to play the field.

Edmonds' offensive skills are underrated when you only look at avg/hr/rbi.  Cliff Floyd's and Pat Burrell's are overrated a bit.

Floyd has a better fielding % than does Edmonds!

i didnt say they were better defensively, if you read my other posts you'll see were i said Edmonds is one of the top 3 outfielders when it comes to defense, but the allstar game aint about defense. nobody watches the allstar game for defense they wanna see people hittin 500 foot blasts. Edmonds offense isnt underrated either he's usually a great hitter this just isnt one of his best years...he's hit 39 and 42 homers the last 2 years and has a 293 career average and he just isnt putting up those type of numbers this year. its over with now though and like gotmilk said, Andruw backed up our case for him being the starter over Edmonds and once again yall will be watching games 1 and 2 of the series in Boston, hopefully.

Too bad Smoltz couldn't........

Smoltz came in and did his thing, sure he gave up a run, but that happens in baseball! But something I didnt see was neither of the three undeserving starters(Rolen, Eckstein, Edmonds) do anything? Dang!!! Guess I am right again! Hang in there "SCOOTER" you will be fine! <_<

So?

Let me ask you a question. Two fielders are in CF and see the exact same 100 balls.

One of them gets 75 outs, 5 errors, and the other 20 are hits.

The other gets 50 outs, 1 error, and the other 49 are hits.

#2 has a better fielding percentage. Which one is the better fielder?

I never said Jones shouldn't start. I said Edmonds should. The ASG process chooses three outfielders, not LF/CF/RF. Edmonds is clearly one of the three best outfielders in the NL, therefore he deserved to start.

thats crazy.....Edmonds isnt a top 3 outfielder so far, look at the numbers i posted a few days ago and this time open your eyes when you read them and you'll see the truth, and to be honest with you he's probably not even the best outfielder on his team so far this year, offensively speaking(which is what the AS game is about), Reggie Sanders doesnt get any recognition but he's having a heck of a season.

So in that case, you are saying Ken Griffey Jr. should have made the All-Star game over Edmonds? Griffey(.288 18HR 59 RBI) clearly has better offensive numbers that Edmonds(.270 16HR 51 RBI) and we all know that anything edmonds can catch, Griffey can! But the game is over Jones proved who should have been starting, Edmonds proved he shouldnt even have been there, so its all good! thumb

Edmonds is no where close to being a top 3 OF! His past shows that he is a great OF, but he is just not doing it this year so far!

we might as well just give up because we could keep telling them the stats all the way through October and these Cardinal fans still arent gonna admit that Edmonds isnt playing as good as Jones, Lee, Cabrera, Griffey, Floyd, or Burrell...atleast theres still 2 people that can realize the obvious.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
