Macon County

I read in this morning paper that coach Dyer and one of the assistance from Macon County had resigned.... I know that this isnt a big surprise with all of the politics that he had to put up with there, but does anyone know where he is going?

It is a shame after what seemed like an eternity dismal football that Macon finally got a coach that was building a good program and a select few could not support him for some unknown reasons. I hope he lands on his feet and never looks back... For all of these years Macon was the Bad News Bears of High School football in the State of Tennessee and now that some one was changing that I guess it did not suit everyone and they must have liked being in the basement of High School Football......

[/quote Yeah well you said it with your one word POLITICS yes as it has always been that way here it always will be I should know being borned and raised here. To answer your question Coach Dyer will be in the Smith County school system and I don't blame him one bit. It makes you wanna wish Smith County all the luck in the world to come out on top this year and as far as Macon goes I feel sorry for the boys because they are the ones that are going to have to keep their spirits up. I still think they have a decent season ahead of them but then again if certain people have their way their kids that don't really have the talent to play will be thrown in a game while others that have talent but no name behind them will have to sit.Time will tell.....................

Macon's loss is our gain. It's good to see good coaches (one a former Owl...the other our former head coach) return home. Both will definitely be great assets to our program. :P

I hear they are conducting interviews. I don't know who they have in mind. Most of the assistants are gone.

Hey Antwan!  I'm going to miss being in the same region with you this year.  But we'll meet again the end of Sept.

Good luck to your Owls (aka Night Chickens) :P  :D

Tell Coach Dyer and Harville we miss them. :(  :(

Yeah...me too. I really enjoyed the 4 years with all of the teams in that region. We are playing Macon, LA, and Trousdale this year. I'm glad that was worked out.

I really don't know what the circumstances were. I do know he replaced Rankin...which made it very difficult to succeed. I am sure he learned a lot from that experience. He has always been a very good coach.

It is pretty obvious that you are from Macon County. You only have seven posts and all of them have been on a the MC threads on subjects about Pat Dyer. It's obvious you are a hater, but Why? What is it that makes Pat Dyer not a great coach for Macon County? What was it that he did wrong? I am curious, because I know nothing about things that go on in that messed up town. All, I know is that they have been being pretty successful over the last few years. I hope that isn't the reason! Would you happen to be the kicker that hit the 50 yard fg the year before last?

I am from Macon County. I played for Coach Dyer and later coached under him. He is a great coach and an even better man. He is no longer in Macon County and we all must move on. Stop beating a dead horse and focus on supporting the young men who are Tiger Football.

I can assure you that the 50ydman is not the young man who hit the FG in the playoffs. He is as appreciative of Coach Dyer as I am and would never have anything bad to say about him.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
