My vote goes for Linebacker because he is basically the quaterback of the defense. Depending on what kind of defense you run determines how involved your linebacker play is. For example, a 4-3 defense is much tougher to run as a linebacker then a 50. Linebackers must read the call from the sidelines, sometimes they can become pretty lengthy, make sure everyone is in the proper position, know if hes involved in the coverage, who to cover if he is in the coverage, know which way the front is moving, making an alignment call, knowing where to and where not to go if a blitz is called, reading the guard or fullback or whoever he is keying off of, making sure his steps aren't lateral, and then tackling the guy with the ball. Then doing it all over again the next play. Add in that you are mentally and physicaly tired, and it can become pretty difficult.

O-line gets my next vote.

Well all of you have good points, but you are more or less picking a position and explaining why they are hard. Everyone of them are hard, that is why football is a hard game to play. If it wasn't hard everyone would be doing it, right? And it really depends on what you mean by "hard". IMO, QB would be the hardest position. As in all positions, QB's have to be very football smart to the extent that it is so hard to learn very well, and no matter how hard you work, no one will ever perfect the position. The pocket passers have to be even smarter, and the rushing QB's have to be tough as well as smart. In closing, if the QB is used to the full extent, they by far have the hardest position, but they are all very hard, and they all have to do their job for the team succeed.

Offensive tackle is the toughest, just on the reason of that pass blocking, its hard to keep with those quick and fast defensive end. That puts alot of pressure on the tackles. Also with working with the guard, and picking up outside blitzs, when you already have a guy lined up on you, it gets very difficult and confusing.

O-Linemen, and Defensive End!

Offensive linemen gotta know what he is doin and what the guys on both sides of him are doin, and has gotta worry about blitzing linebackers and stunts and things like that. Defensive Ends have to be able in most defensive to keep the qb contained and has to worry about being cracked blocked and opition responsiablty!

Defense wins Championships....but you don't get to the playoffs without a great offensive line and if your running west coast you better have a good center!

An offensive line that can take it to a defensive unit ( and make 'em like it ) in the second half of a ball game is the mark of a champion!

mentally the QB position is the most demanding.

But in my opinion the toughest might be a long snapper. Now before you go nuts, think about it.

You are asking a young man to center a ball between his legs when he is alomost upside down to a point either 7 yards deep fora PAT/FG OR he must sanp it 12-13 yards hopefully waist high. In both instances he then has to block a rush man and when you punt you must cover down field.

Might be wrong, but it sur elooks hard to me.
