The Lady Mavericks kicked off the 2005 season tonight by putting 2 in the win column.

The first match was against a very good Alcoa team. AC dropped the first game 28-30 then came back to win the next three 25-15, 25-16, 26-24. AC showed it's age a bit in the first match - 5 players were participating in their first Varsity action (3 Sophomores and 2 Freshman).

In the second match, the Lady Mavs took on South Doyle. AC came out ready to play and finished them off in two quick (2 out of 3 - it was getting really late and South Doyle had a 45 minute trip back home) games 25-19, 25-20.

AC was led by Sr. Brittany Carter with 18 kills on the night, Jr. Emily Dupree added 8 kills and 5 blocks, Fr. Faith Dupree contributed 10 kills and 4 blocks, So. Ashley Pittman had 5 kills, and Jr. Myra Purkey added 2 kills. The So. setters had a pretty good night with Kelsey Lefew having 14 assists and Jordan Bollinger adding 19.

AC will play in the Early Bird tournament at Oak Ridge & Farragut High School on Saturday.

I'm a touch confused, ghost. A 3/5 then a 2/3? Unless this was a Varsity-JV (doesn't seem to be), your tri-match should have been all 2/3. Please post what the match arrangements were. Thanks!

I guess the coaches asked the official if 3 of 5 was OK and he said it was. It was getting pretty late when the last match was about to start, they asked if 2 of 3 was OK for last match - he said it was fine.

Don't really know any other details - just generally what happened.

I regret to inform you that Anderson County is in direct violation of Article 7, subsection 2, paragraph 24 of the TSSAA rulebook that states that:

"any and all teams involved in a multiple team format shall play the same designated number of games, whether it be 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 format. Any teams found to be in violation of said rule shall forfiet all matches in that event. This shall be done, as we here at the TSSAA like making silly rules. Silly rules are fun. "

All this to please the 1% Club and the 25 people that would come to see it. All in the name of WOKE!!!!!!
