The Chattanoogan has reported that Brentwood and GPS have advanced to the finals. Who won?

Brentwood 25-23 and 25-10 as updated on one of the best websites in Tennessee the CHATTANOOGAN.COM and let me say all the girls were dead tired cause they were 2 and a half hours behind. Congratulations to Brentwood! Good job girls.

Now we know why it called the Tandem ...two days! Finals ended at 11:54 actually.

Final 8 tms:

-Baylor Beat ER in 3

*Surprise to some ..but those who know Baylor know they are mean ..can be mean. And, I'm telling you, it is very very hard to stop Scoggins the Jr. ER did not play to potential, didn't play badly, just were not peaked enough to beat a determined Baylor tm. Laura still hitting well for ER ..as are her tmmates, sorry I don't know all their names, but a gang of 4 or 5 of them are real tough.

-GPS beat ND in 3

*ND played harder than they have all yr ..and better. Very happy for them, esp. after some of the pitiful efforts they have had this yr. Wake up girls, you gotta play hard. And if you do then you get the good feelings like you did in the GPS match. Leigh Stavrum, Jr OH, had a personal best match esp. with some BIG blks and some gutsy swings on too tight sets.

*GPS played pretty good. It was a dramatic match with about 6 back atcha series'. One girl would ROOF one of her friends, then the very next play the roofee would roof or monster kill back at them. Melyn Thompson was an enforcer. It was very entertaining, esp. knowing how well all the girls know each other ..very respectful and VERY competitive ..as one parent said, "This is the true essence of competition, trying to beat someone you respect."

-Oowa beat Ringgold in 3

*Oops. Ringgold plays a different style and Oowa didn't really come to beat them, just to play them it appeared. But, you won. 3rd game was something like 20-18.

-B.wood beat BGA in 2

Close at times ..but not really.

Final 4 tms:

-GPS beat Baylor in 3

*Good, close match, GPS had to come back.

-B.wood beat Oowa in 2

BUT, Oowa had b.wood down and stunned a little in both games. Gatewood had a few John Henry kills.

Finals- B.wood beats GPS in 2

*Summary = B.wood is good.

GPS had b.wood down about 12-4 in gm one, mostly due to a great string of serves by Jr. Cayce Gearrin which caused two B.wood timeouts. But, when you're good, the scoreboard doesn't matter, you just play hard. Which B.wood did and tied it up around 14 all. You could see the "wow, they're not scared" realization fall on GPS's demeanor ..and the match was basically over at that point. B.wood beat GPS like a drum in game 2. Mny of the B.wood girls have played maybe 200 tougher matches than many of the GPS girls ..and it showed. Both Campbell and Frazier recognize the value of gaining experience in the toughest situations you can find. What the rest of us can learn here is that you don't get good playing avg. VB ..you just can't do it in VB no matter how good your practices are.

All Tourney was picked out of the last 4 tms left standing.

-Oowa- Rachael Robbs Jr. Athletic with some really big plays.

-Baylor #3 Brittany Scoggins Jr MB. She's an assasin on offense and, I guess, the best over 6'1" defensive player in the state.

-Baylor- Emily Boydston OH sr. and Camille Campbell S jr. Boydston hit and jumpserved hard. Camille set very soundly and dug line digging many tremendous hits today.

B.wood- Setter Abbey McKay was cool and ran by far the best transition offense in the tourney. In serve receive there are a handful of tms who can play with B.wood, in transition- no one can. Dana Goodson #23 had a good day, good player. OH Katherine Hall #13 was unofficial MVP. She hit undiggable balls in the finals, she put on a show after apparently getting tired of things being close ..a real show.

Lynne and Paul asked us to thank all tms who participated, esp. those who had a long day (that tough pool of Bradley, Oowa, HH, ND had many long 3 gamers that put it all behind).

Girls in all divisions played hard, commendations to all!
