Fiegler to UTC. Which surprises me. I thought someone out of Louisville, North Carolina, Indiana, Southern Miss, and Vany would offer.

DISCLAIMER:I think Joei Fiegler is a good quarterback. This doesnt surprise me however. Fiegler was nowhere near the best quarterback the area had to offer. Not only was he the second best QB in his region, rumor has it he may have been the second best QB on his team. Congratulations to Fiegler though. He is a hard working individual and im sure he'll represent Region 2-AA and the Alcoa community well in Chattanooga.

Fiegler WAS actually offered by Louisville, the just didn't seem like they were THAT interested. When UTC coaches told him he has the chance to be the best QB to ever go to the school I'm sure he jumped at the chance. Also, if you look at the conference, (Appy St., Furman, and Ga. Southern), it's the toughest in DII, so I think he made a wise choice as well.

About the best QB in the area that's a matter of opinion, (I know CoachLogan and I will always agree to disagree), but none-the-less he's a great one. The state's second all-time passer. His back-up Randall Cobb will be good, but only time will tell if he's better.

Also, at Alcoa, Drew Miller committed to Tusculum today, but has yeat to sign, and Logan Love was invited to Tennessee to walk-on, turning down a handful of scholarship offers from other schools.

CoachLogan, I hope Richard Harb, has a great career at WCU. He's an outstanding QB.

Romans from Baylor will also play at UTC. He is a very savvy player and has a lot of upside. He has to get stronger and develop quick feet. He doesn't have a strong enough arm for UTC, but he will work hard to develop it. I was hoping Samford would offer him a scholarship, mainly cause of academics. but Coach Gray signed Legette out of Ga. Romans is a better player than Samford's current qb, Adcock. Romans will give Fiegler a run for his money. Romans and his parents have to be patient.

How in the world does Cody Romans get a scholarship at UTC?

He wasn't even the best QB in the city.

I was going back over some stats from last season and here are the top QB's in Chattanooga as of the first of November, 2005:

1) Kevin Smithson (Temple) 165-305 for 2,910 yards

2) B.J. Coleman (McCallie) 119-206 for 1,917 yards

3) Caleb Wilson (Rhea Co.) 115-209 for 1,906 yards

4) Zack Woods (Ooltewah) 84-138 for 1,450 yards

5) Bradford Turner (East Ridge) 69-123 for 1,360 yards

6) Curt Bureau (Sequatchie County) 89-177 for 1,123 yards

I'm not sure which of these guys are Seniors (except for Smithson).

How does he not get any consideration from the Mocs?

He had almost 3,000 yards passing in 2005 and in 2004 he had 2,702.

He made All-State in both seasons.

Yes. I know he plays for little Temple, but the kid is a good QB.

Somebody is missing' out.

There is something everyone on this board needs to realize. What a D1 college coach looks for in a player has almost nothing to do with a kid's stats or accolades as a HS player. Most of the time they want players to be a "blank slate" when they come in, cause they are going to teach you their way of playing whatever position they decide to put you in.

That may be true but Kevin Smithson could play a number of positions.

The kid is like 6'3, 240 and is strong as an ox.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
