Notes:

* Jacques McClendon brings the Volunteer total to 65 PARADE All-America signees. PARADE began naming its All-America team in 1963.

* Today's signing class includes prospects from a dozen different states for the third consecutive year. In Phillip Fulmer's 13 recruiting classes, UT has had signees from at least 10 states on 10 different occasions. The most states represented were 15 in 2000.

* Signees Chad Cunningham and Lee Smith are sons of former Vols. Rory Cunningham played here as an offensive guard from 1979-81, while Daryle Smith was an offensive tackle from 1984-86.

* Dorian Davis from Iowa City, Iowa., could become the Vols' sixth letterman all-time from the Hawkeye State. Tennessee has had only one letterman from Iowa (Chris Benson, 1989) since Vol legend Col. Gene Moeller in 1951-52.

Ended up with the 23rd ranked class by rivals .com,thought they would have done much better.

I thought it was a very good class coming off a (5-6) season one recruiting guru the name excapes me right now has Tennessee ranked as the #14 class and ESPN I think had them at #17.

They filled the needs pretty good.

A defensive end (Walter Fisher) who can possibly come in and start from day one as he is enrolled and will go through spring practice.

A solid guy (Justin Garrett) from JUCO to provide depth in the secondary.

Perhaps the best offensive line class Tennessee has signed at one time with these four all are highly rated.

Jacques McClendon (6'3, 295, 5.1) Chattanooga, TN

Ramone Johnson (6'4, 310, 5.0) Chicago, IL

Cody Pope (6'5, 275, 5.0) San Diego, CA

Darrius Myers (6'4, 315) Chatham, VA, Hargrave Military Academy

Speed & quickness at the receiver positon something that has been lacking in recent years with Quintin Hancock who runs a 4.5 and Brent Vinson and Stephaun Raines who both run a 4.4 but have been clocked in the 4.3 range before. Can't wait to see what new wr coach Trooper Taylor can do with these guys.

Finally a Top 10-15 rated QB in Nick Stephens who can be the guy if injuries hit Ainge or if Crompton is not fully back from shoulder surgery.

2007 Class update

According to one recruiting service Tennessee has already offered scholorships to the Oaks Christian five. The players from Oaks Christian HS in Westlake Village, CA

***** - QB - Jimmy Clausen (6'3, 200)

***** - RB - Marc Tyler (6'0, 205)

Both are already rate 5-star prospects and could be the #1 player at there position.

**** - S/WR - Marshall Jones (6'1, 195)

NR - LB - Casey Matthews (6'2, 230) I think his dad is former NFL player Clay Matthews?

NR - DE/OL - Mike Ebbitt (6'5, 250)

I'm sure in the next few months someone again will point out the lack of in-state players signed by UT.

No one will talk about Vandy signing only two in-state players.

No one will talk about Tennessee Tech signing 9 out of 22 in-state players

No one will talk about Memphis signing seven out of seventeen in-staters.

The point is that, whether we like it or not, the state does not produce a number of high quality football recruits that will play at the D-1 level, or at appears, many for D-2.

For UT to recruit nearly exclusively in-state would make this past season look like what Vandy is celebrating now.

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
