PageMan
I read this topic this morning and have been trying to come up with some intelligent responses: Loretto is a good as they ever were. The District 12-A teams that they have lost to are very good teams. I've seen Wayne Co., Perry Co., and Summertown this season and they are good because they are quick, good-shooting teams that don't get caught in Loretto's inbounds press. Loretto has had some trouble with these teams' defenses late in the game when their starters have tired. As for Coach Christy Green's comments either on the radio (which I did not hear) or in newspapers, I take her blaming the team for a loss or losses as heresay. As for the type of defense - zone vs man-to-man - the man-to-man may be what Loretto does best. I know they have played a trapping zone on inbounds plays in the back court. Their front court defense of man-to-man gives them the opportunity to block out their man for good rebounding position. Yes, Ball FAN, there are times when a different defense (zone) would be called for, but maybe things have worked out for the best. The above 12-A teams can hit the three and you don't want them shooting over the top of it. To me the injury to Jana Cross has affected their play some - they have become a more balanced team. Cross may not be getting 40 pts a game, but 20 is a good effort and I know she would have gotten more against Page if she had played the entire game. Loretto has a tough week ahead playing Summertown (Feb 7), Culleoka (Feb 9), Lawrence Co. (Feb 10), and Collinwood (Feb 14). They will have a 1st round bye and will not play until Feb 21 so they will be ready if they rest over the weekend. Good read your posts Nick (ntd4lhs) and keep up the good work William L. Tunstall Great summary. You have great knowledge of the game. Loretto does not dodge a tough schedule. Some may look at the 1A schools and think differently, but you are right, these 1A school are good. Everyone will find that out come tournament time. I have seen several teams actually get better after a key player goes out for a while. The others cannot depend on her during her absence and have to step up their game. When the hurt player returns, if they can get the chemistry back, they can be even better. These next few games should get them ready. I did not think Cross could be hurt with the street gangs she played against over Christmas. Glad she is back. Good luck Mustangs. jamieroper
It does seem that Loretto has slacked off after Christmas but the teams they have lost to are no slouch. I wouldn,t be surprised to see one of those teams playing on Saturday at the Murphy Center In my opinion the problem is not the players but the coach. SUMMERTOWN shot lay-ups all night because she doesn't want to go to a zone. That is just one game but alot of the games have went the same way. If something isn't working you have to change it . DON'T GET ON THE RADIO AND BLAME THE TEAM FOR EVERY LOST AND SAYING THEY CHOKED. SOMEBODY CHOKED BUT IT WASN'T ALL ON THE PLAYERS GOOD LUCK AGAINST SUMMERTOWN Everyone seems to dispute your version of what was said. Did you actually hear it and if so, where or from whom? tigerman
I've seen Loretto twice this season. Still not impressed. Would have loved to see this bunch in December & seen first hand what got so many people excited. A very young Lewisburg team did not play well at all & took them to the wire before losing by five Friday nite. Cross is tough but I think Mandy Cross may be a huge factor for them down the stretch. I haven't seen many other AA teams outside the district, but if Lipscomb & Ezell Harding are any count it's going to be a tough region. It's a really bad year for District 10AA. cat1973
Ball fan I am a Wayne County fan that happen to be listening to Coach Green's interview after the Summertown game. I never heard her blame any player. Her only comment was we( players, coaches, etc.) didn't handle Summertown's press very well. Mostly she complemented Summertown.and D12.This is the only interview I have heard and surely this can't be the one you are talking about . If it is you are way off base because she was very nice and professional.
PageMan
Here is a link to "The Tennessean" article by Tom Kreager after the 2nd loss to Wayne Co. on Jan 17. I didn't read where she was blaming anybody in her remarks - only praise for Wayne Co. See what you read: http://preps.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...3&game_id=11943
odds maker
Everyone seems to dispute your version of what was said. Did you actually hear it and if so, where or from whom? I heard the interview on the radio where she blamed the team for not being motivated in the games since the Christmas break. This interview took place during the halftime of the boy’s game on Friday February 3, 2006 when Loretto was playing at Marshall County. In the interview with Eddie Landtroop; Coach Green said, “Our team’s biggest problem is they are not playing with any motivation. I think that’s what happens when you win so many of your games in the first half of the season by 20 or 30 points. You don’t get motivated when you play the teams the second time because you think you can beat them without having to put out as much effort. I’ve told the girls, ‘I think I could get the greatest motivational speaker in the world and it wouldn’t help. They are going to have to motivate themselves because nobody can do it for them. You know how to play and it’s all up to you now.’” In away I think that Coach Green is right. They do need to start playing with a heck-of-alot more motivation before it is TOO LATE. On the other hand, Isn't it the coach's job to motivate the Team? Good Luck Lady Mustangs, I would love to see you win the State Championship in 2-AA. Loretto hasn't won it since 1958. That's been way too long. I'd also like to see Richland, Wayne County, Perry County, Collinwood, or Summertown win the 1-A State Title too. I hate it that only one of you could win it but maybe two of you could play each other for it. Wouldn't that be nice?
Ball FAN
i HEARD THE INTERVIEW ALSO THE WORDS "CHOKED" AND "RATTLED " CAME OUT OF HER MOUTH i guess she could have been talking about herself IF A TEAM GETS RATTLED LOOKS LIKE YOU WOULD CALL TIME-OUT TO SETTLE THEM DOWN I KNOW WHAT I HEARD LORETTO GOT OUT PLAYED AGAINST PC THEY GOT OUT COACHED AGAINST WC AND SUMMERTOWN BOTH TEAMS SPREAD THE DEFENSE OUT AND SHOT LAY-UPS MOST OF THE NIGHT GOOD LUCK MUSTANGS
sagjuz4fun
I THINK THE MAJOR THING THAT WOULD HELP THE LADY MUSTANGS, IS TO REMEMBER WHAT GAVE THEM SUCH A GREAT SEASON THUS FAR: TEAM WORK, BALANCED DEFENSE AND OFFENSE, STOP BLAMING AND START WINNING AS A TEAM. GOOD LUCK COACH GREEN & COACH WEATHERS AND ALL 10 LADY STANGS!
jamieroper
I can tell you what motivated them at the Christmas tournament. They got hit in the mouth about 3 times by some rough playing teams. They decided they were not going to take it and they started hitting back. They took it to every team they played. That's all they have to do. Decide they are going to take it to each and every opponent. They have it in them. I saw it. The ability is there. The talent is there. The difference comes from the heart. Do they have the heart to achieve their goal. We will see. But I can tell you this. The team I saw play at Christmas was one of the 3 best girl's teams I have ever seen play. And they are not #3. They are tied for first with the other 2. Both those teams won state championship going away. The MUSTANGS can do it too, if they decide they are going to. Simply REFUSE TO LOSE. One last thing, have your coach call Richland's coach to schedule a home and home next year. It would be fun to play the best.
