Still nothing...same old thing at Wayne County High...i just wish sumone would take the job!!

You are correct in that it's still the same old thing in Waynesboro. Coach Crews had decided that he want's to spend more time with his church (which is great) but he is going to continue teaching which will be one less teaching position available for the football staff. Until they decide that they want to win and win in the correct manner they will never get over the hump. Small town schools cannot allow men to teach and not coach a sport because they don't have enough teaching positions available for the new coach to hire his own coaches and bring them on board. Crews is a great man and was a good class A coach but business is business and if they want to hire Rice or whomever they need the luxury of allowing the new hire the opportunity to bring a minium of 2 coaches with him.

Coach Crews is a major asset in Wayne County.

He is a teacher first, coach second. Why would

anyone under any condition suggest that he not

be at Wayne County as a teacher?

They would be nuts to ask him to leave, and

that is never going to happen. Nor should it

ever happen.

Coach Crews is one of Wayne Co's best teachers. Under no circumstances, should they let him go.

I have the utmost respect for not only Coach Crews but also Coaches Pierce and Dixon who also resigned and will continue to teach. The problem is no teaching positions open so how can you hire a coach or assistants. Would love to hear comments on how to handle this situation.

You don't toss someone overboard simply because they are not a coach.

They will find a way to get a new coach in place. Under no circumstance

does it beecome a decision between asking someone such as Coach

Crews to leave or not hiring a new coach.

There is another solution. The administration will make it work.

The solution might not come in the shape and form that will

please everyone.

So what is the solution? The adminstration will make it work is not a solution and is simply passing the "Buck" and forcing someone else to handle the problem. While the teachers union would go crazy with the idea, I would be willing to put it in new teachers contracts that if they stop coaching they loose their teaching position. Schools only have X number of teaching positions and they need coaches, band leaders, debate instructors, etc... something has to be done to see that all teaching positions and after school activities have qualified people leading the students. While you may not want to hear it the day's of people simply teaching and going home are over. Teachers are going to be required in the future to be involved in after school functions.

if coach rice does come back, maybe coach dixon and coach pierce would have to stay on as assisstants. that would be the only way. from what i here some of the descion makers want money to put air conditioning in the gyms of the county.

there would not be enough money to bring in two new assisstances and pay thier teacher salaries.

they may have to get volunteer coaches from the community.

does anyone know if spring training has been scheduled.
