devilfan11
To my understanding, the only county player on the Greeneville Varsity basketball squad is Seth Ottinger. He is a junior, not a starter, and gets very little playing time. Though I do think he could be a starter on any of the 4 county squads. and doesn't Ottinger's mom and grandmother work for the Greeneville City Schools. That would probably be the reason he comes into the City.
volunteerfan23
And in the state championship years check where some of South Greene girls came from. But in my opinion if it is a school system (like Greene County) a person should be allowed to attend where they want to. Some school might have a band program where another does not. A certain school might offer academic classes that another may not. Such as Greeneville versus some of the Greene County schools. The county schools have made great strides in the last few years. Talking about South Greene this year they have some good freshman on the basketball team that went to Towering Oaks School. I am not sure where all of them live but they all decided on going to South Greene.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way in all school systems. Just a couple of years or so back M-East had a player that for whatever reason did not fit into the coaching styles of the East coaches and got very little playing time. His parents had to move to the West side of town in order for him to be able to attend West. They did that, and not only did he start for West but was first team All-IMAC. I am sure that they would have rather paid tuition than move.

Actually, Greeneville has 3 students who live in the county on Varsity, Seth Ottinger, Matt Underwood who it out right now due to injury, and Wes Woods. but good call, and on the other hand.....about parenst sending there kids to the county...maybe in other places but in Greeneville Greene County; Greeneville High School has more to offer and is better in athletics then all the county schools combined.... JayLo1
What the heck do "recent transfers" have to do with school size and playing up? People change jobs and relocate their families all the time. I am sure there are plenty of transfer students in various sports all over East TN. Why is it such a big deal that these kids parents relocated to Greeneville? It has been listed as one of the 100 best small towns in America. Who wouldn't want to raise their kids in a great little town like Greeneville (or JC or Blountville or Maryville or just about any place up here in God's country) Greeneville plays up because all of their biggest rivals are in a higher classification. A good rivalry makes everyone better. I hope this one with SH continues for a very long time. If someone as good as Antaine Wiggons moved because of his parents or some other reason, why would he go to Greenville Tennessee of all places.... sounds to me like there was a lil recruiting involved... You know Jaylo, I will try to explain this so that your very limited capacity can possibly grasp it. People move to Greeneville all the time from other states. There are Fortune 500 companies that operate here. GreenEville has a lot to offer, particularly in the field of EDUCATION, of which you have obviously been deprived. I am sure Antoine's father weighed the benefits of moving to Greeneville heavily before relocating his family.

barb
What fortune 500 companies are you talking about? Parker-Hannefin for one and maybe you have heard of a little retailer called WAL-MART. They thought enough of our little county to build their distribution center here. TribeAllDaWay
Hey don't feel bad Barb we have a couple of them here in Kingsport as well (Eastman is the biggest, but we also have AFG Glass and Willamette who are also house their corporate headquarters in Kingsport) but we get accused of recruiting all the time! Congrats on a big win! Edited February 20, 2006 by TribeAllDaWay

Plus Mr. Niswonger puts a fair share of money into the school systems.
