William Blount Advances....Again

In basektball, you rarely see a team only have 3 players score in a game. Furthermore, you sure don't expect that team to win, especially on the road in a district tournament. The Lady Governors pulled off that feat Tuesday night with a win in the District 4-AAA semifinals against 2nd seeded Farragut at Farragut. Puleo had 28, McBrayer had 25, and Sampley had 9. Only 4 other shots by 2 players were even taken in the game. It was quite remarkable as WB came back from down 19-7 to finally surge ahead in the 3rd quarter and never looked back as they won 62-54. The Lady Governors will now take on Heritage Thursday night for the District Championship against Heritage.

Not so remarkable if you have one player averging 30 a game and it takes her 40 shots to get it. Average attempts in a girls high school game is 64 from what a Coach of HS told me last year. If this is true the rest of team isnt going to get but 24 attempts among four.

bballtn,

check your numbers before you pop off. puleo averaged 17 shots a game last year . she has worked and improved each year in high school. yes, she is averaging 25 a game on 17-23 shots per game in 2006

Do I sense some jealousy or resentment here?

Most girls in high school who average twenty or more points a game probably shoot over 60 percent of the times the team shoots. Mooney, Hudson, Stewart, Pickel, McMahan, Puleo, Brown, etc. etc. etc. Bets are that all these take the mojority of the team's shots. A coach would be an imbecile to not let these ladies have the green light and work the offense around them. Just because only three scored doesn't mean the other two on the court weren't just as valuable. Too many people worried about points. Some players specialize in scoreing and others specialize in defense and others in passing. All three important aspects of the game. Jealousy is not becoming. Puleo is a great player with a great future. How can you be critical of her or her team? Congratulations to Angela from your middle TN supporter. Keep shooting the ball and we may see you in Murfreesboro. Thats the only way your team will be there is if you keep shooting.

Thats one game, this is not personal I dont even know Puleo and I never mentioned her name I was just making a statement know one shoots 73% from the field for a season. She must be a real good player Ive never saw her play but once, but you do the math? And stats that are kept at the scorers table in HS are usually not very correct usuallya student or a parent of one of the players and radio personnel are not real good scorekeepers. But that being said Im glad she doing good and hop they get all the W's they deserve.

What Krylon was saying was that she averages 17 to 23 shots a game not 17-23. But I am sure before she graduates she will probably have a game where she does shoot 17-23 ;)

bballtn,

You seem to have really good instincts and knowledge of how high school basketball usually works. I am a WBHS alumni and had children that played in the system for 10 years. I have watched Angela play since she was in grade school and know several of the William Blount players very well. Angela is a very good player and I am glad that she has had such a great career. However, I summit that her success has came at the expense of other really good athletes in the William Blount system. The class of '07 at WBHS had some really good female athletes (most of whom no longer play or play at other schools). Only Sampley off the freshman team (class of 07) is currently playing at WBHS and she didn't play last year because of the politics of the situation. I know this young lady and she is a great athlete and could have had success similar to that of Puleo had someone been able to see that basketball is a team sport. It is extremely difficult for a competive, talented athlete to stand in someones shadow. However, WBHS does have a new coach this year and the team has had more success than in recent years. I hope he has the ability to survive in a school district that has traditionally embraced who you are over what you can do.

William Blount defeated Heritage 75-70 which means William Blount takes the District 4AAA Championship. It was a total team effort. I don't know who had the points but I know that atleast 3 players were in double figures and one had 9 for the lady govs. Both teams played extremely hard and it was a very fun game to watch. Congradulations once again to the Lady Govs. Good luck in the region! If anyone knows the stats of who scored what please post???? Edited by ovratd98

First of all, I would like to say congrats to the Lady Govs for winning their district tournament tonite!!!

Second of all, I would like to say to all the people that don't want to make things "personal", and question Angela's stats....that maybe they, themselves could go watch her play one night and take their own stats. Many, many, o, did I say MANYYYYYY college coaches have been to watch her play, and they have taken their own stats. Guys, gals...this girl can play, period. She has sacrificed her summers to play AAU, she spends her free time in the gym shooting, she has earned the right to be called great, she has earned the right to be recruited by not one, but MANY division I colleges. She has now chosen to play at Georgia. Not many athletes get to make that kind of decision as a junior. As I understand it, Angela has broken just about every scoring record that has ever been set there....and she is still going. Like I said...go watch her play. Count her stats, like that matters to her???? NOT!

    • Never in my life have I seen a team in a scrimmage against their own defense look so lost and confused. The defense didn’t look much better, the coaching staff can’t keep their anger together, not only with the players but also with their other coaches. I feel awful for those players. None of them look like they wanted or should’ve been out there, but for the grown men on the sidelines acting like fools, it's just embarrassing to the Farragut name and reputation. I now see why they chose not to live stream this on their YouTube channel.
    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
