How are things shaping up in the Middle and West Regions?

CBHS sealed its state birth today with a win over ECS, and MUS, unless somthing happened late, got a birth with a win over Briarcrest...ECS, Briarcrest, Harding and SBA are now battling for the final spot from the west with CBHS and MUS now playing for seedings

Someone told me at the beginning of the season that since there were only 3 teams in the D-II East (3 darn good teams by the way), that if one team swept either of the other teams during the regular season then they automatically qualify to go to the state. Simce Webb swept McCallie and McCallie swept Baylor, if that rule is true, then Webb and McCallie are going no matter who wins the Baylor McCallie matchup. Anyone know if that rule is correct? Although i think all teams are evry good and deserve to go, I can't really believe that is the rule. I think it more likely that if any team swept the other two, they go automatically no matter who wins the tournament. Anyone know?

Not a rule, just a bunch of baloney. You don't automatically qualify for anything just by regular seaon results. You could go undefeated until tournament time and not make it.

The rule is that if one team sweeps BOTH teams in the regular season then they automatically qualify for state. Webb swept McCallie but lost one to Baylor. McCallie swept Baylor, but was swept by Webb. Therefore it is up to the region tourney to decide who goes and who doesn't. As it stands now Webb is in and the winner of the Baylor/McCallie game monday night is also in the state tourney with the remaining games of the region tourney being played for seeding between Webb and the winner.

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
