Question about state baseball brackets

I disagree with the one game takes all in the championship game. I think the double elimination needs to play itself on out. On other words take this years AA championship. USJ reaches the final only losing one game while Covington has one loss. IMO Covington should have to win twice to be declared the champion. If all other teams were afforded the opportunity to lose one game and remain alive then a team in USJ`s position of having reached the final undefeated should maintain that same right. JMO

Softball can play many more games in a day than baseball. An eight-team double elimination tournament would require 14 or 15 games. You wouldn't be able to play that many baseball games in four days and have any pitchers available at the end of the week. Remember, baseball has pitching limitations, softball does not.

Well if you compare this year's Class A softball & baseball brackets guess

what. For baseball today finals is game 13, while the championship softball

game will be game 14. Whole lot of difference there, huh ?

What's more this could have been game 14 or 15 for baseball today had

either McKenzie or Chapel Hill had lost in their bracket.

I agree pitching can become a huge issue but stay out of the loser's bracket

& your #1's can usually come back & pitch 2 games in the tourney.

My point is simple...Chapel Hill and McKenzie have proven to be hands down

the best in their class in this tournament. Had they gotten a bad draw & been

in the same bracket, only one makes it to the finals in this format. In a true

eight team, double elimination tournament, they could have been in the

same side of the bracket & both still made it to the finals.

Don't you want the two best teams in the Finals ?

USJ went undefeated in 2003 only to lose to Davidson Academy in the championship game. Davidson had one loss already too.

its pretty much impossible to get the two best teams to the finals... they can lose anywhere. So why would it be needed to change the format to make sure they meet then. The best team will win the tournament anyway, so unless you have people really wanting to have a true 2nd place it is not needed....

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
