Question about Summer Rules?

Recommended Posts

I was out of town for Memorial Day, and i passed a school thats in my region( which i wont say) but they were dressed and on the field practicing. I know there spring practice is over. So my question is are u allowed to be practicing on the field right now? I know my team doesnt start practicing other then weight lifting until July.

They are as follows:

1. Football -- The first practice date in pads is Monday of the week of August 1; the date of the first contest is the last full week of August, no earlier than Wednesday (A game may be played one week earlier by special permission of the Executive Director); the maximum number of regular season contests is 10 games (see Article IV, Section 8); a maximum of 10 days of off-season practice within a 15 consecutive school day period and two interschool scrimmages is permitted; in the summer, no practice in pads is permitted and there is a maximum of 10 days of school-against- school competition (exception -- There is a two-week dead period the week preceding the Fourth of July and the week of the Fourth of July.).

Summer Practice: In the summer, in football, schools may not practice in pads until the Monday of the week of August 1. (It is permissible to wear helmets prior to the beginning practice date). Competition as a school team shall be limited in all team sports (football, girls volleyball, girls soccer, basketball, baseball, softball and boys soccer) to 10 days of school-against-school competition. In fall sports, this would apply to the period of time from the end of school until the Monday of the week of August 1 (opening day of practice). In other sports, this would apply from the end of the school year to the beginning of the following school year.

If I'm reading this correctly, as long as kids are not in pads and as long as they aren't playing in a game, teams can practice all summer long except during the dead period?

And people can't understand why the 3-4 sport athletes are a thing of the past! Sure the kids have a choice of playing baseball (during baseball season), or going to mandatory football workouts/practice(during baseball season). Why are they having to make that choice?

As an example, an East TN school is requiring its football players to commit to the following practice schedule this summer. Everyday, M-F offensive players practice at 7am. Defensive players at 8:30am. Weight training at 7pm nightly. Two unexcused absences removes you from the team. Commitment or Stupidity?

Yes: Football teams are allowed to practice all summer long, we call it technique time. They may wear a helmet during 7 on 7 competitions(passing leagues) during the summer. No pads until the August date and they may not scrimmage until they have practiced for 3 days. If I'm correct.

OK so the team i saw practicing on the field w/ there helmets on is ok. RIGHT? I saw them on the field w/ the coaches running drills.

Yes unless their school district is still in session then those practices would be considered spring practice and you are only allowed so many days for spring practice I think 2 weeks[10 practice days].

    • so the players dad who is a recruiter is now at Oakland?
    • We are optimistic because we will have another great season. You should keep your opinions on your Forrest Rocket board. These kiddos at Marion have had an amazing off season. They are working hard and it is showing. Coach TStark is getting these kids scholarships to get their college for free. Also Coach Harm is back so this is another awesome thing for our kiddos. Forrest will get theirs when they come to Bill Baxter Stadium this season. My main men Sam, Tay and Tilton are going to do amazing things this season. You should just watch and see what these kiddos are capable of doing. The Marion County Warriors are a force to be reckoned with again this year. East Robertson will be a good team again but that is the only big challenge this team will have again. If we can beat East Robertson like I know we can then we will go to the state championship and win the game. As always it is a great day to be a warrior. Go Warriors! We are Marion!
    • The player is only able to go because of the coach who is his dad. The dad is a recruiter not a good coach. HC blamed him for losing the Clinton game in the playoffs.
