Best Players in Jackson

I felt so sorry for Evan Johnsey his freshman year when he played QB at the ROCK. He got hit so many times in that game. He took a real beating. e just kept getting laid out all night long. To his credit he kept getting back. I admire him for that. I even went over and shook his hand afterward because I was impressed with his toughness. But GEEEEEZ...he took a pounding that game!

The 3 best players in Jackson all reside at the ROCK.

Tavis Hogsett

Gavin Hardin

Nelson McElrath

All 3 are Players. You can name anyone you want after them, but they are the top 3. And from everyone that I have heard who has seen both Hogsett and Donald, their opinion is that Hogsett is every bit as good as Donald. Donald will be a LB in college and Hogsett will probably be a DE. Hogsett and McElrath will be seniors. Hardin will be a junior.

McElrath is up to 270 pounds of all muscle. I saw him and he looks like a beast. He`s benching 350 pounds now. He should have a great year.

Could you post JCM's schedule if you have it.

8/25 Germantown Rothrock

9/1 Brighton Southside

9/8 Haywood Rothrock

9/15 Munford Munford

9/22 Southside Rothrock

9/29 Northside Northside

10/6 Trezevant(HC) Rothrock

10/13 Henry County Paris

10/20 Raleigh Egypt Rothrock

10/27 Hardin County Rothrock

JCM has 6 games at the Rock. It should be 7 but the Brighton game has been moved to Southside because of a street festival. Not sure why that would cause them to move it. Seems to me that would be more reason to have it at the Rock. The big game will be on 10/13 at Paris. It should decide the region champ.

Oh yeah..JCM is in the SportsPlus jamboree on Aug.11. They will play Milan.

Thanks. I was there in 2004 when Haywood came to Jackson. Probably the best high school football game I've seen in a while. I was also at Germantown last year. I can't wait for that rematch. Trezvant for HC! WOW!

I think it's likely UT if his grades are where they can offer him/sign him. He seems to be very into UT.

Problem is, his grade situation might cause him problems...so he might end up having to go the JUCO or Prep route unless he has a great senior year grades wise.

He'd be much more talked about on the recruiting circuit if it wasn't for his grades just fyi.

Hopefully for himself though, he can get everything fixed and go D1 this Feb.

That sounds pretty accurate to me. He loves UT, but UT is limited this year in schollies so I`m sure they want make sure any recruit is gonna qualify first. That`s the thing with Donald..he is doing very well in school. It might be that he could go to a DivIA school like MTSU or Memphis that doesn`t have the stricter guidelines as the SEC. I know the UT coaches like him though.

Yeah, Hogsett is a beast. He's kind of a sleeper prospect, because outside of Jackson, not many people really know about him. I could see him flying under the radar and signing with a school like Memphis and then really shining. Kind of like Patrick Willis...he wasn't heavily recruited, now he's an all-american caliber backer at Ole Miss. I just remember last year when JCM played Melrose Hogsett stood out for JCM. I know Melrose dominated the game, but from a fan's perspective Hogsett looked like a great player for the cougars.

You are right about being under the radar. Sometimes I just don`t get all this recruiting stuff. I`ve watched Brooks and Hogsett play (from the sidelines) and Brooks was an All-American and Tavis hasn`t received near the attention. It was the same thing with Willis. Hogsett is a player,

Yeah, I remember watching Brooks, November, and Echols hold down the linebacker spots at JCM when Brooks was a senior. That was a fun group to watch. I think Brooks got more attention in part because that team had more prospects. You had Bo Hardegree, Ryan Scott, Orlandus Kirby, Eric Charles, November, Ernest Croom, Jonathon Person. That was really a great team. Also, you had Hardegree coaching, who from what I understand, helped his kids get recruited a little more than Hampton does. Brooks was pretty awesome in high school...to me he seemed a little longer, leaner, and more athletic than Tavis does. But Hogsett definitely deserves more attention than he's gotten.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
