Goodpasture won tonight's game 20-13 over Lipscomb. The Cougars ran the ball very well, especially Medley and Rogan, and did a great job against Lipscomb back Matt Elrod. The Cougars took a 7-0 lead on the opening play of the second quarter when Rogan scored on a short run. Lipscomb threatened right before the half when they capitalized on a Stroud fumble from beneath center (which happened about 3-4 times tonight) but Elrod was denied twice at the goal line by the Cougars defense. Goodpasture came out in the third period and withstood a Lipscomb threat again, fumble by Holt (I THINK), then shortly thereafter the Cougars scored on another Rogan TD run. The PAT gave Goodpasture a 14-0 lead. Midway through the final period Goodpasture quarterback Stroud was picked off by the Mustangs defense and this time Lipscomb got it in on fourth and goal from the one when the quarterback, Hunt, scored on a bootleg. The PAT pulled the Mustangs to within a TD at 14-7. Goodpasture's next possession should have been the ultimate mistake by Cougars head coach David Martin. With a 14-7 lead (Lipscomb's lone score came on a very short field) he decided to go for it inside his own 30 yard line on fourth down and one yard. Medley was denied and Lipscomb took over. Instead of feeding Elrod the football with over 5:00 left in the game down by one TD on a short field Lipscomb came out slinging the football. Hunt was picked off on third and long by the Cougars defense and after a long time consuming drive Stroud put it across the goal line on third and goal from the one yard line. Lipscomb drove the field late and scored against a very vanilla prevent defense by Goodpasture to close the gap to 20-13 with 7 seconds remaining in the game but they were unable to recover the onside kick.

Goodpasture wins another great battle in this series 20-13 over Lipscomb
