Purple & Gold Standard
The week that was saw the region pick up another win against a non-region team..The 7-3A record now is 20-4 outside region play...Most of the region stays "in-house" this week with only Obion Co. Central playing outside the region..One question...What happened to the AP Poll this week,it wasn't in the UC Messenger????...Anyway...Here goes for a first look at Region 7-3A action.... #4(6-1 2-1)COVINGTON CHARGERS @ (5-2 1-2)RIPLEY TIGERS........ Somebody from either of these schools, fill me in on the series record between these two....I know it's been awhile since Ripley has beaten the Chargers...The last time the Tigers had a big game at Tiny Knee, they lost to the Crockett Co. Cavaliers 35-7..Are the Tigers going to show up this week or are they still "The Not Ready For Prime-time Players"?The Tigers have a rough row to hoe the rest of the season with games against Covington,Haywood and Obion Co....The Chargers lost at home to the Dyersburg Trojans in a defensive struggle..For the second week in a row they had a long TD run nullified by penalty...The Chargers are not used to losing in the region, they are not used to losing to Ripley....They will do neither this week...Covington wins (3-4 1-3)DYER COUNTY CHOCTAWS @ #3(7-0 3-0)CROCKETT CO. CAVALIERS... 62 points twice this season..Admittedly against sub-par teams, but the fact is they stomped the daylights out of the teams they were supposed to and they have beaten everyone that"might" have had a chance to beat them....Dyer County is coming off a 27-6 loss to a talented Ripley team in Newbern...One more win is on the horizon for the Choctaws..Maybe they should move Senior Night to the Halls game because a Senior Night against Covington isn't a good thing....I mentioned teams that had a chance against Crockett Co...Well,DC isn't one of them...CC will have to avoid looking towards a HUGE PAY-BACK game next week when the Cavaliers travel to Covington...The last team to beat the Cavs...A team that beat CC twice last year....Dyer Co can lay their playoff hopes to bed after this game......Crockett Co wins this one like they should...BIG.... #10(6-1 3-1)DYERSBURG TROJANS @ (2-5 1-2)HAYWOOD CO. TOMCATS...... This will be an intriguing contest....These two teams are ultra-talented...Dyersburg is a better coached and a better disciplined team....Alex Watkins is the real deal and will have to be a focal point for the Trojans..If the Trojans overlook the Tomcats,D-Burg will limp home with a loss...If Haywood ever puts together a game where they have no turnovers and no stupid penalties they will be a match for anyone in this region...Dburg will not have a huge speed advantage and they won't have a size advantage...I don't think Haywood has it in them to play a mistake free game....Dyersburg will win this thing, but it will go four quarters and watch for Haywood do something bad to themselves in the fourth quarter...Mark my words....Dyersburg wins this one.... (0-7)CHESTER COUNTY EAGLES @ (4-3 1-3)OBION CO. CENTRAL REBELS..... This is a match-up between Reg.6-3A and Reg. 7-3A...7-3A leads overall this season in head-to-head match-ups 2-1...Chester Co is 0-7 and they don't score much....3 points a game in their last 6 games...They have played one 7-3A team and lost(Dyer Co 42-19)..A team with a bad record that doesn't score much...Sound familiar Rebel fans??....One difference though,CC is nowhere as good as Haywood Co...CC won this game last year in Henderson 7-6 on their way to the play-offs..As for OC...The thing I was worried about all season happened against Haywood....Kind of a dead atmosphere and a lethargic effort from the Rebels spelled doom for them in a game they should have won...The Tomcats gave the Rebels every opportunity in the world to snatch out a victory...The Rebels just couldn't get over the hump..This a game where the Rebels can get that "feel good" feeling back before heading off on the road to play a couple of huge games in big football towns,Dyersburg and Ripley....Senior Night, big emotion and a need to win all spells victory for the Rebels..... Big Country
How are things shaping up for the Rebels in the playoff picture? They'd be all but in had they beaten Haywood last night. Now they are in a 3-WAY tiebreaker scenario with Haywood & Dyer Co. Better hope Ripley doesn't start upsetting people down the stretch or they'll be done. Ripley can beat Covington too

RipleyTiger54
How are things shaping up for the Rebels in the playoff picture? They have two chances slim and none. The Tomcats shut the door. Sorry to here about the Rebel"s loss. Injuries can ruin a season,it did ours last year. Sounds difficult, but that's what great stories are made of... Memphis is going pretty good. the football down here could use some work, but other than that, it's going good. Ripley can beat Covington too i believe you ARE WRONG about the ripley covington game, ripley is a great team but it will be tough for them to score on covingtons d-fence

Injuries can ruin a season,it did ours last year. Will"s dad, Injuries had nothing to do with that loss or the one at Covington. Fumbles at inopportune times cost the Rebels both games. The first five games of the season I can hardly remember a fumble and the last two I bet we've put it on the ground ten times. The Rebels have beaten themselves the last two weeks, plain and simple. Is it going to be extremely tough to get in the playoffs? Yes! Impossible? No!

You are right rebfan65....The Rebels have pretty much overcome their injuries....They cannot have the turnovers anymore this season.Period....Now,in saying they have overcome their injuries doesn't at all take away the fact they could have really used the guys that went down with injuries...I would have loved to have watched Jacob Fulbright run behind this senior line...Jacob was having a great summer and looked really solid in the scrimmages he was able to participate in..He has an uncanny knack for finding the seams in the opponents defense and he took care of the ball....His leadership on the field is surely missed...I would have loved to have seen Logan finish the year and see how the coaches would have used Mark and Garrett in the "S" slot...It would have been hard on defenses to defend OC if they had that 1-2 punch of big running backs...Justin was coming into his own and they could have used him in different positions....One thing to come out of all this was that we might not have seen what Hunter could do..Now we are going to still have a solid backfield,it will be up to the big guys up front over the summer to step it up and become players....But,we have three regular season games left and still a chance for the playoffs..Every one of those games are do or die situations,Chester County included...A team full of seniors that don't want their season to end and have their backs to the wall is going to be dangerous.....
