Art,

Have you ever seen The History of Dobyns-Bennett Football published by the Kingsport Daily News around 1986? An excellent source of D-B history. Bobby Dodd was not the star of the game or actually the season. Paul Hug was the star, scored 9 TD's against Norton(still the school record for single game scoring). Paul Hug was all-southern at Tennessee(pre SEC days) and was the reason Bobby Dodd got into college. General Neyland wanted Hug but him and Dodd made a pact to go to the same school and the rest is history!

I am going to the Kingsport Library to see if the Times News had an article on the Norton Game.. I think they had decent coverage back then.

Bobby Dodd's autobiography Dodd's Luck has some interesting insight on the Norton Game, the 100-0 victory over Tennessee High and his 6 years playing varsity football. Dodd was in the 7th grade in 1921 and played end on the first D-B team(actually named Kingsport Central High School Panthers). Back then if you were good enough and tough enough junior high players were eligible.

Nope... I gotta get that too. There is alot to learn about when you talk about a history like Kingpsort has.. 1921, a long time ago. I did see in a late 20's Kingsport Times News Paper calling the team "Panthers"... when did Kingsport High (Dobyns-Bennett) take on the name Indians?

Whats the latest on Salyer, Bouchilon and Preston?

I have not heard any updates on the injuries.

As far as history D-B was originally Kingsport Central High School from 1918 to 1925, the name was officially changed to Dobyns-Bennett HS in 1926.

Football Mascot Names

1921 - Panthers

1922-1925 - Red Elephants (also known as Maroons)

1926 - present - Indians

Don't forget the Kingsport Douglas Tigers who played football from 1927 to 1966 until integration in 1967.

Maybe you can find all that at the Church Hill Library!! Which used to be a top notch Little Market called "Willie's Little Gold Mine."

Falcon fans not needed, wanted or accepted.

DB Rolls on the Road in Jacksboro. Graham Clark will rest everyone he can as early as he can and get as many players in as he can... that will stop the shut-out and the Indians will make the longest Region Road Trip in the State of Tennessee with ease.
