Great win by Woodale, 6-3.

Woodale blocked a RW punt & returned it appx 10 yds for the game-winning TD, late 4th Qtr.

BG, I'm gonna officially lay off Woodale's defense! They did an outstanding job tonight, despite RWs one-dimensional offense. Woodale STILL had to stop Crawford. They did just that, very effectively.

Best of luck to Woodale next week in the rematch vs White Station.

At last you have come to your senses!!!!!!! It only took us getting to the state Quarter finals.....LOL. Just kidding...You should come to next weeks game...it will be a good one...

It's certaintly possible....

With Woodale's outstanding offense and adequate (I'll now back off saying, "porous") defense, they have just as good a chance as anybody to win the 5A Championship! First though, they have to get by White Station....That's gonna' be a great rematch.

I hope they go on and win state, it just sounds better to say that our only lost was to the State Champs.

Last nights game was a dandy, but Wooddale has got some work to do and a short time to do it in. I didn't see any outstanding offense, heck I figured them for 2 td's and was worried on how we were going to get 15 pts. The qb has a real strong arm and the receivers are fast but I wouldn't call that outstanding. True we have a very good defense but you know that from now on out everyone has a good to very good defense. Maybe this was an off night for their offense, very seldom do you get away with one off night in the play-offs, I wouldn't count on two.

Don't anyone get to happy about them holding us to 3 points. We are not a high scoreing team anyway, we put 14 on Bolten, W/station put 34 on them from the line of scrimmage. Yes they helt Crawford to 99 yards, just over half his average, but they knew we couldn't pass and he was all we had and he still got 99? Now you go and play someone who can put up 250/275 passing yards and that 99 turns to 135+ and you got big problems.

You've made some excellent points, PaPaw!

While Woodale moved the ball effectively vs Ridgeway's stout defense, Woodale needs to work on its "Red Zone" offense, ASAP. They were there twice, last night, and came away with ZERO points. That's just not gonna cut it. That must improve...Quickly!

Question, at the end of the half why didn't he go for the FG?? I had looked at previous scores and they were kicking Xpoints and thats all it was.

Last week G/town did the same thing and it came back to bite them in the tail and it almost cost W/dale. Anytime we got inside the 30 we went for 3, of course we have Jasper, but inside the 5 and get 0 pts? Both these teams have kickers so I just don't understand their thinking, maybe you can help me.

Also in the paper it stated that Melrose went fot 2 pts. instead of kicking to tie the score, why?

Woodale's kicking game ain't worth a plug nickel, especially the snaps. This has been especially troublesome for Woodale, lately. That's why the Coach opted to go for the TD, IMO.....Personally, I would have been COMPELLED to at least ATTEMPT the short 15-yard FG!

As for Melrose.....I wasn't @ the game, but I will say this: Melrose had a solid extra-point kicking game, this year. Thererfore, I can only assume that Melrose's Coach figured that if he could get the 2pt conversion and go up by 1 point, his defense would hold off Henry County.

Just my 2-cents worth.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
