play4keeps
Impact will hold their annual college showcase for the club's 15-18U travel and national teams on Saturday, Jan 13 and, based on last year's turnout, expect about 20 college coaches to attend this playday. I've noticed that some of the tournaments on the SRVA site are starting to fill up. My daughter's team has their first tournament (Central Zone Shootout) on January 14 in Plainfield, Indiana. Our first regional tournament will be at Impact on Jan 27-28. We will also attend the Birmingham Bash in Feb and the Williamson Select tournament in March. play4keeps
While the answer to this question might be obvious to some who know, why are there not more in state tournaments in Tennessee. I realize part of it might be better coverage for players but local coverage might be good. Coverage is non-existent for club tournaments. When Impact's 15Teal won the National Championship last summer I had to call the Tennessean and inquire why, 6 weeks after the fact, there was never a mention of it. Only then did they do a story. We have to compete with basketball coverage and then baseball/softball coverage. Occasionally, if a local team wins a tournament and a parent or coach submits it to the paper it might be printed in a local edition of the Tennessean. As to why teams don't play more in Tennessee? There are very few clubs big enough to hold tournaments (which require a lot of work). The Southern Region encompasses Alabama (only down to Birmingham), Tennessee (except the Memphis area -- not sure about Jackson) and most of Georgia. National level (or top) teams at the big clubs go further to play harder teams outside our region. We are only "required" to play in 2 regional tournaments in order to be eligible to play in the Southern Region championships. With a schedule of 8 to 10 tournaments for a season most of the top teams play 2 in region plus the championships. That leaves only 4-7 dates to play elsewhere. The national qualifiers take up 1 or 2 of those dates. That leaves 2-5 other dates. We have a schedule of 10 tournaments and we play 4 in region but only 2 in middle Tennessee. It comes down to competition, pure and simple, in order to be the best, you have to play the best and that takes most of the teams out of town all season. Old Timer
Finally, I have our schedule for the Jackson Jrs. 16 yr old #1 team: 1/14 Ice Breaker Tourney-Jonesboro, AR 1/20&21 Mid South Blast-Memphis, TN 2/10 Impact Tourney-Nashville, TN 2/24&25 NASA Tourney-Huntsville, AL 3/11 Perryville Invitational-Perryville, MO 3/24 Impact Tourney-Nashville, TN 4/07 Impact Tourney-Nashville, TN 4/15&16 Delta Regional Championships-Springdale, AR 4/21 Perryville Invitational-Perryville, MO This is #1 16yr old schedule only. Not for sure about the other Jackson Teams. Sorry that I don't have the actual names of some of the above tourneys. Due to change in occupation recently (unplanned of course due to corporate buyout), I have not been able to get to many of the workouts/practices, much less worry with a website. Hopefully, I will be able to make most of the above tourneys however and hope to meet some of you fellow CoachT'ers there.

TheGreatLineJudge
It's outside the area, but KIVA hosted the Central Zones this year. There was some extraordinary quality ball up there, even in the 13 and 14 year old groups. Our friends from KY (if they're active readers) will attest to this. Ron Kordes and his facility staff and coaching staff are really nice folks and good hosts. I will attest once and for all that club ball is where it's at. Period. I would wholeheartedly agree and is the reason our team spends so much time north of Tennessee. We had the dubious pleasure of being drubbed by Kordes' KIVA 14Red team back at our first tournament in January. Those girls were amazing. The setter is probably 5'10" and was very skilled. #14 could CRUSH the ball from anywhere on the court and most of the team had an accurate jump serve. I think now, mid season, we would have given them a better match but on January 14 they were da bomb Remember, these girls are all in the 8th grade (or below).
