After watching Alcoa and Maryville play football for many years, I'd say I've got a very good eye for Championship level football.

Blount County........Thats 16 state football championships!

8 championships since `2000.........AND 2 of Alcoa's Championships went thru Goodpasture! (2000,2005)

to fellow goodpasture fans, the tennessean polls came out today for top ten teams in the larger mid-state area (large enough for henry co. to crack the list). i was shocked to see that in a victory we moved down from third to fifth still behind BA, and Riverdale (who lost), and now also Smyrna, and Hillsboro. the quote was something to the tune of, offense struggles but solid defense does it's job in victory over solid CPA team.

Questions:

1) How do you drop two spots in a poll beating a top ten team (CPA was ranked ten going in) for the second time in a year by double digits both times? (if this happened, hypethitically, in the BCS, this would be the biggest outrage of the year by far, #3 beating #10 by double digits and dropping to #5)

2) I know that people expect 500 yards a night out of our offense, but how is 350+ considered struggling against a top ten team?

3) If we can't get love from our own people in middle tennessee, is there anyone we can get it from?

I know this has nothing to do with the thread or milan, and for that i apologize, but i was looking for some goodpasture supporters that could maybe answer my questions

Goodpasture didn't move down. Hillsboro and Smyrna moved up! Smyrna beat a great Riverdale (5a) team and Hillsboro moved to 13-0 by dominating a strong Clarksville team(4a). Goodpasture beat a good CPA team (2a)

I know it is tough to compare teams between divisions but I also know that Hillsboro scrimmaged CPA before the season. You may want to ask the guys from CPA for a comparison. I saw the scrimmage.

Good luck to Goodpasture this weekend. I am hoping for all of the middle TN teams to make it to the championship. Winning ensures respect.

Well first off, Goodpasture is 2-A. It wouldn't matter if they averaged 50 points per game. They're still 2-A. Any 5-A team worth a nickle will be ranked in front. Whoever it is making these rankings probally just looks at the scores and records and just ranks teams. They basically discriminate small schools. If CPA would have beat Goodpasture they probally would have moved to number 7, but when Smyrna beats Riverdale they some how become number 2. What I would love to see is if Goodpasture becomes the state champs and Hilsboro and Smyrna lose, what the rankings would be then.

unapproved website National and State Power Ratings are the result of our collection of enormous amounts of information from teams throughout the country and the application of a computer model developed by our associate Ned Freeman. The most important thing to understand about how the ratings system works is that it is 100% objective.

The size of the schools, their division, the league they're in, how good the school or league are historically, their geographic location, how well liked the school is, how good the league is in other sports do not matter and therefore, none of these factors are programmed into the system. Those subjective factors inevitably bias humans saddled with the daunting task of trying to figure out who the best teams in the nation, in a state, or a region really are?

Instead, Ned's system just takes into account the facts. Cold, hard, and unfeeling fact - but as accurate, objective and fair as possible.

I'm begging everyone to stop the poll stuff. The beauty of a state championship is it's earned on the field. Seriously, who cares about polls? This isn't the freakin' BCS or BS college fiasco. There aren't going to be any ballot boxes in Milan on Friday. If there were, Goodpasture would be in trouble because I'm sure Milan would get more votes. Luckily these boys will decide it on the field with no hangin' chads involved just blocking, tackling and TD's.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
