Govman............my issues are simple..... that it even made the paper. Let me assure you discipline actions and scuffles amoung WB, Heitage, and Alcoa athletes don't make the news. At Maryville it's a news item. The punishment is absolutley appropiate because that is the RULES. Maryville players have been suspended in the past for fighting and they will be in the future.....the rules have not changed. So you think it's too harsh and an exceptions should be made? I don't agree completely with zero tolerance either but this was a fight in which both exchanged punches.....what makes this any different than any other fight? Maybe WB coaches....administration....and fans can learn from this example and make punishment consistent with the incidents and not the punishment be determined by who the kid is or his importance to the event he is participating in. Just another life lesson for the Maryville kid IMO and the reason I love my kids attending MHS!

As for the title....after thinking about it you are exactly right. It is inappropiate.

Well, ML, I can see what you're saying and it makes sense. I'm not aware of a whole lot of incidents where "punishment has been determined by who the kid is or his importance to an event" at William Blount. I'm sure you are. I know that right now we have a "starter" in basketball who is not even allowed to dress out with the varsity until after Christmas because of a rules violation. This might help support your claim about not everything getting into the paper, because this incident certainly didn't. But it doesn't sound like he got any leniency from those coaches, administrators, or fans at WB though.

The headline on the sports page of The Daily Times (Maryville Newspaper) commemorating Maryville's third straight state title this morning was:

HOLY TRINITY

Just interested in anyone's response to that. I personally considered it somewhat sacrerelgious (sp?). Is that an overreaction on my part? Doe anyone share my sentiments?

why not "TIC, TAC, TOE!!!" or something similar????

Actually I am not aware of a situation personally regarding WB but have been told of some. Since it is hearsay regarding WB I retract my statement.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
