Its almost Basketball time!!! Finally... Any thoughts on District 2AA this preseason?

It should be another good competetive season in the district. I look for Rutledge to be the preseason favorite with how they finished last year and what they have returning.McBee is one of the top guards around (any classification) and Horsely is as good as any guard in 2-AA, Garrett should be much improved and is a nice compliment at 6'7" to the guards. Cumberland Gap and Claiborne will be right there also. CG has Warren and Bisceglia to get them going while Claiborne has Estes, Holt, and ODell. PF should be solid, but it is tough to continue losing 5-7 seniors and compete every year. PF has lost 19 seniors in last 3 years, we will see if they can withstand one more year under the experience of Woodrick and Schleif. GP should be improved, they have experience at every position. McCroskey and Taylor have started for 4 years and Jr. Bo Dyer has started for 3. Union is the biggest unknown, they are young, but their young guards are supposed to be very good. How quick will they mature? My order is:

1. Rutledge

2. Cumberland Gap

2. Claiborne

4. Pigeon Forge

5. GP

6. Union Co

How can Pf not be the favorite with all that they have returning from last years Sub State team. Give me a break with the poor mouthing of PF, you must be the Coach. It would also be a shame if Claiborne is not competitive with them this year, Estes should dominate! Rutledge will not be able to replace Hudson and Reischling in my opinion.

1. PF

2. Claiborne

3. CG

4. Union

5. Rutledge

6. GP

PF lost 7 Seniors, they have two players returning (Woodrick and Schleif). PF may put everything together, but I dont see how they can be the favorite. I know REischling and Hudson are big losses, but I think Rutledge will be really good. As always there will be about 4 teams capable of winning it all by the end of the year.

The Greene County Schools moved to district 1-AA last year.

Not all of those Seniors played. They have only 2 starters returning but the other guys played plenty of minutes because PF went 10 or 11 deep. PF is and should be the favorites again along with Claiborne. Harper is back this year, but you should know that.

They did go deep last year, and they do have a lot of experience coming back. You have to remember though, they went deep, but didnt have a ton of talent. They jsut outworked people and came together as a team. It will be interesting to see how they handle the lack of depth this year.

I am not saying PF cant win or will not be one of the top teams, but I think with Rutledge, Claiborne, CG, and PF that any of the 4 could win reg season and/or tournament.

Should be a great year as always.

Hudson and Reischling were big for Rutledge, but let's not forget McBee is the straw that stirs the drink and he and Horsely are about the best guards on both ends of the floor. There's plenty to go around at Rutledge, but they'll be a little short on the bench and that'll be a concern.

Maybe Estes will be better with Nickell gone because they seemed to have a lot of animosity between them...as far as I'm concerned Nickell is a big loss, but Estes is still a good floor general.

Not just Estes............sure he's good outside, but Nickell played inside. With O'Dell and Holt returning this year, Claiborne is going to be the team to beat in this district.

Rutledge will be a good team this year if they can stay healthy. With Garrett and Starbird being hurt last season, that had some affect on how they came together as a team. If the coachs can keep those boys together as a team and not just a few players, they may actually put some pressure on the district as well.

As far as PF is concerned, I don't really know that much on them. I just know that they have a few returning players that are really good and will make them a strong team as well.

Pressure's on is correct. Here in the northeast part of the district, expect things to get a little AGITATED this year. Looks like it's already starting. Be careful, put your feelings in your pocket, and hang on. It's about to start! Good luck to all!

Born to Agitate!

I will voice my opinnion since we all have on.. I think Claiborne and PF should be favored.. They have the most experience coming back.. Then its Rutledge 3rd only because they are not very good at the post and CG at 4th with small guards and not much of an inside game.. GP and UC will bring up the rear... McBee is the best guard in the district and there is not much to choose from at the post so I will have to take Odell... But I think it is PF and Claiborne's to lose.. everybody else is playing for 3rd place...

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
