Natalie Johnson, Unaka's starting freshman point guard. Like Kayla Winters last season, Natalie could be this season's Tri-County Seven Freshman of the Year.

I agree krich!! Natalie has all the keys to be the best Freshmen in Tri-County Seven. She can handle the ball against pressure, shoot from anywhere on the floor and get to the goal with a very quick first step. She also plays with everything she has while she is on the court and works outside of practice both in season and out of season. We better get use to seeing her name in the paper for the next few years cause she is only going to continue to improve.

Was not accusing or implying that she had been held back..... Was just saying that she has more experience in high school ball than the other freshman do so it wouldn't be a fair comparison, and yes I agree she is a good player, probably one of the best because of her extra experience!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people just can't handle the fact that this girl is good. She is not older, according to her parents she plays up in AAU. She is a first class player and a warrior on the court. If Pat has her already, that should tell you something! Her "extra experience" is only because she seeks better competition.

Yeah she's a true freshmen, never been held back, when she graduates she'll be 18 years old, she's been in RBS since kindergarden so she's never been recruited...She's very talented and will reach 1,000 points shortly...

She is the best freshman I have seen this year. The other girl that I have seen is

a freshman guard at Chattanooga Arts and Sciences Kayla Kelly.

Where does the girl who's 6'8" play at? She must not play AAU as i've never seen anyone in this age group that tall unless they was from another state and still none was that tall. Has she grown alot over the summer or has her height been listed wrong ?

She played two summers ago for Shelbyville Sport Shop 13u, did not play this past summer.

she played her middle school ball at JACKSON CO. when she moved to smith co. she stopped playing AAU.

Laken from RBS will be 16 in April, I think her parents held her out of school until she was 6.

[/quote/ ] It does make a difference in her maturity level and how well she handles herself. Its truly amazing what can happen in a year. She's actually older then the Snow girl that plays at Clarkrange who won't be 16 until May and is a Sophmore, but that being said she is a very good ball player and like it says in another post this is a thread about outstanding freshman. I think Molly Heady from Monterey is tops she has really helped thier team to improve thier game to the next level!

One of these is wrong, unless she graduates by April of 2010 and doesn't complete her senior year early.

If this is true, she will be 19 when she graduates:

Freshman 16

Sophmore 17

Junior 18

Senior 19

Not in their first two years of high school.

Players can be sent a questionnaire only prior to Sept 1 of their junior year. They can visit schools at their own expense and talk to coaches(ie camps, unofficial visits). Gatewood was offered and verbaled to UT when she was an eighth grader.

This has been answered before, yes she is a freshman, has not been held back or anything. What people don"t understand is she played on the varsity team last season as an eighth grader, she has totaled 863 points so far in her career, last seasons team went 30-7 and was eliminated in the opening round of state tournament, where are you from doc?

Laken Leonard is a great player and from my understandng a great young lady. The truth about the situation is that she attends a K-12 school, thus allowed and did play varsity ball in the 8th grade. She will also turn 16 in a couple months, making her the appropriate age of a Sophomore. Now I don't know what year she started kindergarten, but that is the REST OF THE STORY. DOSES'T TAKE AWAY FROM HER TALENT OF THE FACT THAT SHE HAS 3 MORE YEARS TO PLAY HIGH SCHOOL BALL, yes she will be 19 when she graduates.

Laura Advant, I have seen play, she is the best Freshman in Tennessee and possibly the country, she is actually 14. The Freshman with the MOST POTENTIAL is Ferris from Smith Co. at 6'8" and (brought up by Jim Brown) although now playing for Smith, the SKY is the Limit for her!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
