Guest dare_2_dream
Yes, it can. Did you even read what I said? We did speed drills all throughout high school, i was probably faster before i did all those drills
Kublah
I'm not talking about "drills." It's called improving your strength and flexibility. That is how one becomes faster. Basketball players really don't need to be engaging in too many plyometric type drills anyway, because they already get so much of that from just playing the sport itself. Go back and read my post, please.
chattanooga
get a "agility ladder" with a good video on how to use it, you will improve what speed God gave you. also, jumping rope helps as well.
muffin
Yes, it can. Did you even read what I said? If you ran a 4.8 40 as a freshman in high school, and as a senior you ran a 4.5 40 using your method ,is it worth the trouble, position ,footwork, angles make you appear quicker, but in fact and truth you have gained no speed. Kublah
Do you understand what makes some people faster and more athletic than others?
muffin
Ever hear of heredity, most people that speak on sports will tell everyone that there are two things that cannot be taught to a basketball player, those two things are SPEED an HEIGTH. Kublah
Right, but what aspects of a person's anatomy and functionality, initially determined by genetics (or heredity as you say), make them faster and more athletic?
live2succeed
You know muffin I think KublahKD is correct. It seems he knows what he's talking about. Well, I know for a fact that the flexibility aspect is dead on considering a guy I know became faster after the doctor had him increase his flexibility everyday. Kublah is correct when he says that flexibility increases stride length which in turns makes you faster. It seems as if you just want to make an argument about something you know nothing about. muffin
Both of you can go to coaches, sports doctors or someone like me to get an opinion and the three of us will agree,so does it sound like I know nothing about it?
PFDAD
Looking for a coach, player or any instructional media to increase quickness and overall speed (playing BB in Chatt area), any suggestions that have worked in the past? Thanks! a good plyometrics program will increase your speed and explosiveness as well as your vertical leap.....but it is work ...there is no easy way...combine this with a good weight program to make you bigger ,stronger and faster
billybobparker
I am a believer speed can be increased. Talk to D1.
kbc00
SPEED CAN BE TAUGHT. JUMPING ROPE. RUNNING THE FOOTBALL BLEACHERS, WEIGHT WORK ETC. DETERMINATION IS THE KEY TO INCREASING SPEED. IF A KID IS WILLING TO DO THE WORK ANY GOAL CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED. THE HARD PART IS GETTING THE KIDS TO DO IT IN THE OFF SEASON. YOU JUST CANNOT JUMP ROPE FOR 1 WEEK AND SEE A DIFFERENCE IT MAY TAKE A COMPLETE SUMMER.
