QUOTE(Overton County Fan @ Feb 19 2007 - 03:01 PM) 826379440Its kinda strange that Kayci Ferris is good enough to be nominated for Miss Basketball but didn't get the MVP for her district...? May just be because she is a freshman though...

Kayci Ferris is tall... She didn't get MVP in her district because she didn't even get close to carrying her team to the district championship game. Her team got 4th and to be honest she wasn't even a factor for Smith County. Macon Counties girls had her so frustrated she just took herself out of the game. Macon came together tonight they all played very good. Everyone thought Smith County would dominate but never even came close. Gregory did an outstanding job knocking down the three and she follows her shots better than most i've seen: she's always crashing the boards. Courtney Clark was a huge factor in her short corner jumpers. Ferris wasn't there to block her shots and she played her role well tonight. Conley, way to hustle. Great intensity. Wix, way to play strong down low and even with some questionable fouls you stayed the course and didn't foul out. Way to play smart and not let the big girl frustrate you. Compton did a good job taking the ball to the hole tonight with some good strong layups coming off steals. Keep it going girls. Good team effort>> Let's see how far you can take us...

She averaged nearly 25 points...12 rebounds and 6 blocks a game. She hit 72% from the field. Nah...she didn't carry SC. Maybe she shoud have sold popcorn in the stands during halftime.

OK she averaged 25 pts per game 12 rebounds and 6 blocks.............but her team placed 4th that's why it's not surprising she didn't get district mvp..that was the point I was making

Here's my picks:

Class AAA Miss Basketball

Anne Marie Lanning, Riverdale

Class AA Miss Basketball

Gwen Delk, Jackson Northside

I'm not going to pick Class A Miss Basketball because I would end up picking Laken, and I wouldn't be picking who I thought would win it it, but who I wanted...But i'm rooting for her and hope she gets it...

Actually...her team was third in the regular season. The award is not the best player on the best team. That's another thread.

Congrats to Kayci for a very well deserved nomination for Miss Basketball AA. Delk has to be the frontrunner...but to be

nominated as a freshman is awesome.

QUOTE(Alan Shore @ Feb 20 2007 - 08:43 AM) 826380718I'm just wondering......if Delk wins Ms. Basketball, will they present 2 awards? One to her and one to whoever is coaching her from the stands......

That was cheap. She really looks up to her Father who is always in the stands. But she has NEVER not done what her coach has instructed her to do. Maybe you should see her in practice when there are no fans in the stands.

The award is not the best player on the best team in the district as you are saying, but to many times, its given like that. It's bad its like that, but I can see why they base MVP on what their team does sometimes. Obviously we can say that if SC didnt have Kayci they probably would not have done as well this year. She is obviously the most valuable player to her team.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
