No one imparticular........my point was is that you always have one or two that everyone talks about.......this year it's Ferris and Leonard. They are the ones generating the biggest argument. Nevertheless, the choices have been made and good luck to all that have been nominated.

I agree with Not-so HeavyD, the nomination process is much more political than I would have ever imagined, but I got to see how political it was first hand this year. I am not impressed with the system or process that they have in place at all. It makes me question how deserving some of the previous year's winners actually were, and I certainly will be very speculative about whoever is chosen this year. There has to be a better way.

I really don't know much about the selection process, but I really do not like freshmen being able to be nominated just for this reason: they are played differently than upperclassmen are, especially in the beginning of the season. Let me explain. When Gwen Delk played her freahman year, she was a good player no doubt. But defences did not focus on her, especially in the beginning of the year because she was an unknown. Many times she was just played straight up with an occassional double team. Now shew can't even get on the court without three girls being around her. This leads to her point total being decreased somewhat, while her assists have risen dramatically because she can dish the ball off to the cutter. This type of defensive respect is not given toa freshman throughout the year which allows her to have great point totals, possibly without being a well-rounded player. I would like to see this honor reserved for juniors and seniors.

Exactly what is wrong with the process. Whatever happened to giving something to the player that deserves it? That would eliminate a lot of problems. Just let the chips fall. Life does not guarantee you success based on the amount of time you have lived!!!!

You may speak about Delk not having defences focused on her during her freshman year and being unknown.... but you can not compare Delk to other freshmen like

Leonard and Ferris. They are well known and have been doubled teaamed and triple teamed from day 1. These 2 freshmen DO get the respect from the teams they play and still produce......Do not speak of that which you do not know..........The "honor" is not reserved... it is earned....reguardless of age.....

I must agree about freshmen being nominated. I think maybe an AP All-State Freshmen team might be sufficient. Personally, my reasons for not wanting them to be nominated is more for the girls.

 

Let's say, player A gets nominated her freshmen year, and wins. NO matter what she does the remaining three years of her high school career, especially if she declines, she will always be compared to that player of her freshman year, and that's a hard road to tow for a youngster of just 15 years old.

i was wondering this myself -- the media votes a lot on miss baksetball -- with her stats how can you ignore her --

she was defensive player of the year and freshman of the year ---- so she was not totally ignored

even though her team does not have a great record -

 

we all have different opinions, i still think she was mvp of the district, simply because she was the most valuable to her team - except for two games, she was the leading scorer, rebounder and blocker - that's amazing

 

but in choosing mvp for a district, the coaches of the district vote -- so i would expect there is a lot of give and take on who they choose -- hey you vote for my girl and i'll vote for yours -- just my opinion i'm not a coach

 

nothing against ms. matthews, she is great and will go far - but just like upperman there are several MVPs on each team on any given night --

If they deserve the award they should get it regardless of age or rank. If they are good enough it will be hard to deny them the opportunity.

It's the same with Soph. and JRs being reconized as All District, All Tournament, All Reigion. If anyone wins an award anytime other than their Senior year this will be the case. Awards are give (hopefully) based on merit and and has nothing to do with age.... change Miss Basketball to" Best Girls Basketball Player That is A Senior

Because This Is Too Big of A Burdon For Underclassmen(women) To Bear".

It would have to be a big trophy to put all that on there.....but we must protect the youth, how dare we honor any of them for for their accomplishments.
