Tops In 1A

T1. Trinity Christian Academy (25-3) – The Lady Lions won the District 15A Tournament for the second year in a row with a 7 point win over Madison Academic Magnet and an 11 point win over Scotts Hill. The Lady Lions remain as the only team to have not lost a game to a Class A opponent this season. Up next for TCA is the Region 8A Tournament where they will face Westside who is the #4 seed from District 16A.

T1. Red Boiling Springs (30-3) – The Lady Bulldogs won the District 7A Tournament in convincing fashion as they took down Hermitage Springs by 68, Monterey by 25, and Jackson County by 19 in route to the Championship. RBS was once again led by the stellar play of District 7A Co-MVP and Class A Miss Basketball nominee Laken Leonard, who despite all her accolades is only a freshman. They will need her to play up to her MVP status in the coming week as they prepare to for the Region 4A Tournament, where they will face Watertown in the first round. Following a win in that game, RBS will only have one team standing between them and a return trip to Murfreesboro, unfortunately that team is Clarkrange.

3. Richland (30-2) – The Lady Raiders won the District 11A Tournament with a 10 point win over Cornersville and a hard earned 7 point victory over Santa Fe. So what is Richland’s prize for winning their district championship? A first round Region 6A match-up against one of the state’s best defensive teams in the Summertown Lady Eagles who appeared to be out of sorts in the District 12A Tournament. Hopefully, home court advantage and a completely healthy squad will benefit the Lady Raiders in this do-or-die game.

4. Gleason (29-1) – The Lady Bulldogs finished a disappointing third place in the District 14A Tournament as they defeated Trenton Peabody by 14 in the first round, lost to Lake County by 5 in the semi-finals, and defeated Bradford by 12 in the consolation game. While many in Gleason may be disappointed, a loss could be just what the doctor ordered for Class A Miss Basketball nominee Kayla Hudson and her young squad who has in the past suffered their major hiccups during the win-or-go-home games of the Region 7A Tournament. Gleason will look to end their region tournament jinx as they open the first round of play against a run-and-gun type team in Hollow-Rock Bruceton.

5. Collinwood (25-4) – The Trojanettes strung together three straight games that included wins over Hampshire (by 69), Wayne County (by 9), and Perry County (by 19) to win their first District 12A Tournament Championship in over ten years. The dynamic duo of Leslie Daniel and Class A Miss Basketball nominee Abby Andrews proved to be too much for even the best of District 12A competition to overcome this season. Collinwood will now advance to the highly competitive Region 6A Tournament where they will face the #4 seed from District 11A, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs.

6. Clarkrange (27-5) – The Lady Buffaloes entered the District 7A Tournament as the #1 seed overall, but got exploited by Jackson County in the semi-final game by 21, which led to a consolation game against Monterey in which they barely won by 3. Because of their loss to Jackson County, Clarkrange now finds themselves on the same side of the bracket in the Region 4A Tournament as their stiffest competition, Red Boiling Springs. However, before they can get to that game, they must first take on a capable Westmoreland squad, who finished second in the District 8A Tournament, in the first round.

7. Oliver Springs (23-7) – The Lady Cats won the District 4A Tournament with a 12 point win over Wartburg and a 9 point win over Oneida behind the play of District MVP Kayla Christopher. Oliver Springs now enters the Region 2A tournament as a #1 seed where they will face the #4 seed from District 3A.

8. Forrest (22-8) – The Lady Rockets won the District 9A Tournament for the second year in a row as they defeated Eagleville by 14 and Middle Tennessee Christian School by 8. Up next for Forrest is the Region 5A Tournament where they will face the Houston County Lady Irish (the team they played for the Region Championship a year ago), who is without their all-around best player and leading scorer Chelsea Cary in the first round.

9. Wayne County (24-7) – The Lady Cats finished third in the District 12A Tournament as they defeated Zion Christian Academy by 28 in the first round, lost to Collinwood by 9 in the semi-finals, and defeated Summertown by 13 in the consolation game. Wayne County played one of the most complete games I have seen them play this year in their win over Summertown. They will look to carry the momentum they gained from that win over into the Region 6A Tournament, where they will take on the District 11A Tournament Runner-Up, the Santa Fe Lady Cats, in the first round.

10. Summertown (24-5) – The Lady Eagles entered post-season play riding the largest winning streak of any team in District 12A. However, after a first round win in the District 12A Tournament over Mt. Pleasant by 64, the Summertown girls were outplayed by a scrappy Perry County squad in the semi-finals, losing in another classic between these two rival teams by only 1 point. The loss seemed to affect the Lady Eagles so much that they did not appear to be mentally or physically ready for the consolation game as they fell to Wayne County by 13. Now, Coach Willard’s girls enter the Region 6A Tournament in unfamiliar territory (as a #4 seed) and with something to prove as they will take on the District 11A Tournament Champion, the Richland Lady Raiders.

Best of the Rest: Santa Fe (11), Cloudland (12), Middleton (13), Oneida (14), Greenback (15), Gordonsville (16), Jackson County (17), Grace Baptist Academy (18), Scotts Hill (19), Westmoreland (20), Perry County (21), Union City (22), Moore County (23), Decatur County Riverside (24), Manassas (25)

Not a bad top ten. However, Lake County belongs in the best of the rest just for the win over Gleason that people seem to think was a huge upset but actually is not. LC lost twice to Gleason during the season by 2 or 3 points each time. This coupled with the victory over Gleason and a 20-8 record and district runner up plaque give them the accolades to belong in the best of the rest!!!!

They lost to Gleason by 6 and 9 points, right now they're 12-9 it looked liked according to the coacht schedules, even if they did beat Gleason they still lost the district tournament...So I don't believe they belong on the top 10...

Schedule on the website is incomplete. Lake Co. is officially 18-9 heading into region quarterfinal hosting West Carroll. No, they are not Top 10 but should be in the Best of the Rest 25 no doubt.
