DekeRivers
QUOTE(CoachSH @ Apr 9 2007 - 08:23 PM) 826433527My dad told me how good Phil Hardin was he said Phil used to beat him bad one on one everyday. They are cousins and grew up together but phil was older. phil was a tall PG if I am correct. I have also heard about Tony Chuch and new he was a great player. thanks for that about phil I almost put him on this list earlier.... Your dad got me into a profession that has lasted now for 30-years. My first game I ever officiated was between your dad and keith wilson. i called back court on wilson and you dad brag what a good call that was, I'm sure he doesn't remember but that stuck with me because i was only in the sixth grade then,, Years later after high school i registered with the TSSAA in 1977 and have refereed three sports for the last the thirty years. Tell him i said hi thanks not only for me but what he did for my son.
crazzyness
QUOTE(CoachSH @ Apr 9 2007 - 09:22 PM) 826433450yeah Elizabethton is also in Carter County. This would be a nice 5a school in the state if we had a Carter High School. That would be Cloudland, Elizabethton, Hamton, Happy Valley, and Unaka. I know that Cookeville TN combined years ago and our now the largest school in the state. If Carter did this it would be one of the largest in the state and would be bringing home some State Titles in all kinds of sports. East Tn would not be talking about Maryville athletics they would be Talking about Carter athletics. I know this would not happen but would be really nice would it not for Northeast TN and Carter County to be a force. One thing that I have learned since leaving this area is that most other areas do not have City and county schools and do not have schools as close together as we do. That is very different about carter which is a good thing but also a bad thing becuase if we combined we could be on top all the time.... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Well, everyone has a right to their own opinion, but thats absolutly insane. If you combine all of the Carter County Schools, that would doom all high school sports. The only sport Carter County would have a hope in is baseball. In basketball, we don't have the talent to compete with Oakland or Raliegh-Egypt or White Station, and in football we wouldnt have the talent to compete with Riverdale or Red Bank or what have you.... Bad idea.

PLEASE,PLEASE, you are either in or you are out ! Don't just claim being part of good old Carter Co. when it's convinent. Everyone knows that if it were "DO ABLE" the County would disown the City and vice versa! Don't try to suggar coat cyclonedad, it's not becomming of you!!!!!!! serenity4:13
Webster first name at HV was Danny.. Marty Street also played there alone with the Walkers boys who were good.. Did anyone menton Jerry white at Hampton, Leon Tolley, the State MVP At Unaka the best were 1. Eddie Holly 1. Big John Taylor 2. Keith Bowers 3. Phil Hardin & Johnny Bennett Kenneth Chambers & Aaron Dugger The Taylor Boys: Ronnie, Larry and Terry. Larry Morrell Cloudland: Grady Hill and Tony Church.. Church would have been the all Time Leading scorer if there would of been a Three point line. He was deadly from 30 ft. Don't forget Joe Sluder Hampton 7'4 Ken Long Hard to guard him, went on to play at Garner Webb. Kelly Malone and Craig Fair Elizabethton- Johnny Honeycutt, Phil Pierce, Tony Bradley and Big George Richmond and William Trammel was probably the best. I got to add Michael Burrow and Chris Wilson to that list from Unaka
Lord Vader
Never got to see him play, but I here Marty Street was the best player on one of the best teams in Carter Co. history. yea and Happy Valley was the second best team in the county that year. Hampton beat HV 3 times in the season and I am am pretty sure that Hampton only lost 2 games that year. 1 was a loss to Dobyns-Bennett at DB (the Dogs beat DB at Hampton) and a loss to HV in the playoffs. The Dawgs were ranked #2 in the state and played the #1 team in the state Rockwood and beat Rockwood by 18. That was a great Hampton team led by Randy Waycaster (all-state), Randy Ingram, and John Paul Mathes. There was an article in the Star a couple of years ago about these 2 teams. It was entitled "1st in the state, 2nd in the county." When Jerry white retired a couple of years ago, he was asked what the biggest win and the biggest loss of his career were. He said the biggest win was 1974 vs. Rockwood and the biggest loss was 1974 vs. Happy Valley...
