TSSAA Baseball Format (The Road to the Boro) is pretty simple.

a) Finish first or second in your district (this is the hardest part!)

/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> If you are first you play at home Monday

c) If you are second you travel Monday

d) YOU MUST WIN ON MONDAY!!!! Lose and your season is over

e) On Wednesday the two winners meet at the higher seed or at the

odd district # if same seed (because this is an odd year)

f) You don't 'have' to win Wednesday. All Wednesday decides is if

you are selling cokes and popcorn at your place Friday or buying gas

and cokes at someone else's place Friday night.

g) Wednesday's Losers travel to Wednesday's winners Friday

h) YOU MUST WIN ON FRIDAY! Win and you are on to Spring Fling in the Boro - Lose and your season is over

In 5AAA thru 8AAA I think we have these 8 teams left - 2 of them will get to the Boro:

Cleveland, Bradley, Soddy Daisy, Red Bank, Coffee County, Lawrence County, Oakland and Cookeville.

Monday I know Cookeville travels to Coffee County and Lawrence County travels to Oakland.

Who plays who in 5AAA vs 6AAA?

Who is the 'elite 8' in each region for the rest of the state? Other classifications? Lets fill in some blanks here folks

Dear Mr. Limbough,

I have a correction to your post regarding Wednesdays games. Straight from the TSSAA Handbook "In the Regional Championship Games in odd-numbered years, the odd-numbered districts in baseball shall be the host team. In even-numbered years, the even-numbered districts shall be the host team. If the district winner from the district that is to host the regional finals is defeated, then the runner up from that district shall be the host. If both teams from that district are eliminated then the winner from the other district shall host the regional finals." http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/baseball.pdf

This format is not a true test of a teams ability. If a team has one great pitcher (ala David Price) and two others that are average at best they can still get to the state by pitching the stud on Monday & Friday. Would it not be best to play the region games on Monday & Tuesday and play a best 2 of 3 series with one game on Friday and 2 games on Saturday with the winner advancing to the state?

Thanks for the update - unlike the '64 teams left' - this wasn't bait - just a boo-boo on my part... Thanks for the heads up!

yes, the system does not always allow for the best team to advance. needs to be changed to 3 game series after district.

That would be tough on a pitching staff too I would think. Only one day off after a 2 game day???

    • And that needs to go, Charter ,private ,magnet, city and any school that operates differently than pure public schools should be separated. What really needs to be done is address urban and rural. About all the usual powers have access to several kids from other schools period.
    • Sad deal. Hate it. So the coach that kicked her off is now fired??
    • Slightly off topic from a gender standpoint but just observed several boys volleyball games in the Knoxville area for a short spring season. The guys seemed to have a great time. There were several club players on each team but several football, basketball and tennis players involved. Knoxville Catholic, Maryville, Heritage, Knoxville West maybe William Blount had teams. Thanks to Coach Brent Carter from Knoxville Catholic/K2 for getting it together. I’m sure the coaches involved got several laughs trying to coach guys that really had no idea what they were talking about but pretty athletic and competitive. Catholic’s best basketball player told the coach he had played a lot of 2:3 and 1:3:1 but never a 3:3 LOL Maybe it will catch on with some more schools next year.
