The coaches have a meeting the weekend of the state championships and they vote. Vihlen has dominated the state in face offs for two years now. He should have been 1st team in a land slide. if stats had a huge part to do with it, MBA's Gentry Smith, the DI leader in goals, wouldn't have been excluded from all-state honors.. cavlax17
It is nothing to do with politics. It is all stats and how each player did against different teams. Like in the DII, the west and east teams are really unable to see how each other play, so they cannot make a real decision on who should really be all-state. I don't know about DI, but if you lead everyone in goals that should be an automatic all-state bid unless it was all against sub-par opponents. TSLA
Coaches vote prior to the start of the state tourn., then determine the where the division is for each team at a meeting champiionship weekend. Not every team is going to play or see each other, so there is never a fair process when determining individual awards for a team sport. Someone will always feel snubbed. Redtwin
You may want to check with your coach. It's up to him to represent you at the meeting. If he didn't voice a strong enough opininon in your favor, then that may have had something to do with it. It also might have something to do with the level of competition the faceoffs were won against. Bible also had two pretty good showings against Vihlen, one of which was the night before the coaches meeting.

ironman55
The CBHS and McCallie coaches pad the face-off stats of their players. CBHS beat MaCallie 8-5 on April 4-13. The CBHS coach had the FO 12-4 CBHS. The McCallie coach had the FO 7-8 CBHS.

Redtwin
"it's all politics..." what does that mean? Let's take your advice and go strictly on merit (stats) here. Against common opponents in which you both faced, Bible won 72% of his face offs while you won 70%. Those numbers exclude the final cbhs and Ravenwood games, which would have been feathers in Bible's cap. Over the total year, you won 69% of your faces against predominately marginal teams while Bible won 65% of his faces against predominately good teams. Bible was second team last year, you were honorable mention last year. So, going strictly by stats, which your coach is as guilty of manipulating as any other in the league, it's pretty much a wash or a slight advantage to Bible. Either way, the season is over and you were recognized for your performance. Grow up and get over it.
ironman55
Redtwin - You said "your coach is as guilty of manipulating as any other in the league". Are you saying all coaches in the league fudge their stats?

Are you saying all coaches in the league fudge their stats? I'm saying that it's an imperfect science. It isn't occurring on purpose, but for various reasons, if you had 5 different people keep the books, you'd probably get 5 different results, especially on the less glamorous stats like face offs and ground balls and the more subjective stats like assists and take aways. I would argue that McCallie's bookkeeping is probably pretty well done.
