I was reading in the DNJ about the Farragut Bearden game. It mentioned that the player that scored the winning goal had just become eligible to play for the post season match-ups. The player's name was given in the article, but I try not to do that on here, and it's more about the how than the who.

 

Does this mean that players can be added to the roster after the season is over to play in district, sectional, and state tournament games? I would have thought that a player would have to be listed on the official roster prior to the start of post=season play. Can anyone enlighten me on the rules?

if a player transfers school without a change of address (which I think has to be at least 20 miles or something like that) they have to sit out on full year starting with the last day they played.

 

The player would then be eligible after 365 days so If he went to a school that participated in the state tournament last year, he would be eligible sometime during last week. That is probably what happened in this case.

A transfer student athlete who played a varsity sport the previous year at his former school cannot play varsity for his new school until the post season of the following year.

He probably played JV until the regular season ended, then was added before the roster freeze date.

Don't know if that is the case or not.

The player also has to have attended the new school the entire school year- if he/she went even one day to the old school he/she is disqualified for the entire year. At least that was the rule a couple of years ago--

If his last day of compitition was May 5th 2006, he would then be eligible to play on May 6th 2007.

 

He must sit out 365 days from the last time he played.

 

If he got hurt on April 10th. He could play on April 11 the next year.

 

Most kids do become eligbile during the post-season because that is when most schools' seasons end.

I stand corrected. When one of mine transferred, it was explained to me in terms of "the rules will allow him to be eligible for the playoffs."

I didn't realize the coach had factored in the number of days.

That is not true. If a player is a soph. attending High School A and decides he wants to play soccer at another High School B his junior and senior year. He would be eligible at the new school his junior year as long as he didnt play at High School A during his soph. year
