Region 5-3A

Recommended Posts

Dunnavant was a great player!!! Edgmon was as well. The year prior to last I believe Myles was as well. DeAngelo Johnson was a good player as well although he played on some terrible GC teams from 2001-2004.

It's great to see young talent succeeding at GCHS. They've had some talent over the years as I just mentioned but it never panned out. NOW SOPHOMORES LIKE WALLACE & HOUSTON ARE COMBINING WITH SENIORS LIKE HARNEY, REYNOLDS, PEREZ, & DANGERFIELD TO FORM A GREAT TEAM THAT WILL BE A TOUGH OUT NEXT MONTH!!!

I am glad vandy agrees with me on the region opinion...shows he is a pretty smart guy.

I have to agree with him on a point as well. I also want to see the mustangs play Giles and Marshall, before I can say that they are better than last years team.

Holding Spring Hill, Cheatham Co., and Page scoreless is not that great of an accomplishment!

Creekwood ran the ball with the option fairly well against DL. That has been something that has hurt them in the past (see the 2005 Blue Cross Bowl). Also, the backfield as a whole might be better that last year's but I would argue with anyone that says that any of those guys is a better player than Elrod!

Let's revisit this topic again in about six weeks. Maybe the teams seem down at this point, but it is possible that their schedules were a little tougher and there is still a boatload of talent in this region. Who jells the quickest and gains confidence for the stretch run is a big key.

I think the teams that shore up their defense will be the top 4. There will still be some shootouts though.

I still stand on what I said from six weeks ago for the exception of the #4 spot. Besides from what I have seen in region 5 individual talent may be down but the TEAMS are getting better ...I hear even less from region 6. SS and Fayette Ware...then what?

Giles failed the Lipscomb test. I don't think they have beat a good team this year.

Next up for the Lipscomb test is Marshall County. I hope they keep it close. Otherwise the region has turned out to be David Lipscomb and the seven dwarfs.

After seeing Greenbrier and Pearl Cohn play such a close game. I think Greenbrier, Pearl Cohn, and White House are better than the "other seven" of region 5 this year. I will save making that call till after the Marshall / DL game. My reasoning is the close Greenbrier / DL score from early in the year.

What do you think?

Giles beat a pretty good Humboldt team to open the season.

    • Ok l will bite. What exactly are Football Families?
    • Honestly the A.D. may be powerless at Maryville to some degree versus other schools. I know he has his hands full with GoFan and all the stupid surprises just from the emails he sends out during the season.
    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
