The 2 time defending Divison II 1A State Champs (2005 and 2006) Davidson Academy Bears rolled into the Eagles nest Friday night to face off with the defending 2006 Divison I 1A State Champs...Wow what a match up on paper...in one of the least hyped big games the fans were in for a thiller...The Eagles first two possesions where pretty much 3 and out...the Bears drew first blood and then with a second score jumped out to a 14-0 lead...it looked like it could get out of hand...halfway through the second quarter Hudson connected with Perkins for a 50 yd strike to close the gap to 14-7 but the Bears answered with a Field Goal late in the half to push it to 17-7 at the break...not sure what the Eagles coaches said but adjustments were made and the second half belonged to the Eagles...JCS put the ball in the hands of Zach White and he took it home with some hard running early in the 3rd Qtr...The Eagle defense finally showed up and shut down the Bears ground game which had given them fits in the first half...When Cody Jones connected on a field goal it was all knotted up at 17-17 and the balance of the game saw no one find pay dirt...JCS took the ball first in overtime and on 3rd and goal from the 1 yd line Hudson found Grizzell in the back of the end zone to push it to 24-17...a valiant stand by the defense put the win on ice...

Player of the Game...

Zach White...while his total rushing yds was not that large, his runs early in the 3rd qtr turned the tempo and momentum of the game in favor of JCS...

Honorable Mentions...

Ed Hall...played like a champ on the defensive line all night...

Tanner Perkins...nice catch to get it started...

Ben Cooper...big hits late to shut down the Bears ground game...

Blake Taylor...darting runs from the backfield and great hands from wideout...

Isaac Grizzell...quietly putting together an incredible season from his Wideout spot...has now scored in every game...

Post Script...Westview traveled to Paris and knocked off the #4 team in 4A in a great game...while I am not usually big on moral victories it makes me feel a little better about our performance against them last week...

Next Week...JCS travels to Gibson County for our second dip of 2A football...

Chris McKnight did a great job late in the game by getting in the DA backfield and disrupting their offense.

Good job, Eagles and Coaches.

Your right...Chris has played well in limited action this year, but providing a much needed rest on the defensive line...he had a big hit on a kick off late also that pinned Davidson Academy deep and helped keep the tempo up for the Eagles...Chris is a fine young man and represents his school, team and family well...

We all love this game so much and enjoy the moments that players and coaches give us each week...that's why when you see a post on here about an injured players or coach it is hated so by all and our prayers are quick to go out to teams across the state...please see the post about the Crockett County Coach who suffered a stroke...our prayers are with him, his family, the players and the entire Cav family...

    • Wouldn't the easiest move be to move McCall up to HS Principal and have Gulley take over as MS Principal?
    • Bounder, you are correct. And it is so easy today. As a civilian today, I can check my 6th grade grandson’s grades in real time. 46 years ago as a young head coach, I knew who were my weak students and would do a weekly check. A decade and 1/2 later as an administrator, I would ask guidance for attendance, and grade reports as I did my own discipline reports. 5 years later I could run all those reports in a few minutes. today Text one the Secretaries and they can create a red flag report only printing the names with D’s and F’s or attendance and discipline issues. You are not even dealing with a whole team. The only problem with modern technology is someone who might not want to know.
    • No I didn't,  I just know jellico lost a few and should in playoffs tho....but they have alot coming in the next few yrs
    • The buck stops with the head coach, he should have know if any of his players  were not making the required grades. Either he has someone checking weekly before games and reporting to him or he should do it himself.
    • Freedom Prep has discontinued their football program. These are the teams that were on their schedule in case you are looking for a game:
